Assassination Nation (2018)
Huge script perfectly executed
Having seen this after last year's Joker, this comes as a complete surprise even though it deals with basically the same topic.
This movie has a stunning tempo . Acting is superb and the camera work reminds me a lot of La Grande Bellezza.
This currently rates under 6 stars but having just seen it I would say this rating actually belongs to the characters in the film if you can imagine the empathy it stirs in viewers. Oh yes - and if you're not used to bloody scenes, this one is not for the faint hearted! .
In it's class (high school action-drama) it is a disaster, with monologues getting hugely philosophical and hermetic as hell. It is a masterpiece movie aimed at an audience too young to comprehend it.
If you've forgotten about highschool anxieties 5 years ago and you are just having a beer on a painful Wednesday night after work, this movie will give you complete and utter satisfaction.
Freddy Got Fingered (2001)
Amazing humor
Tom Green just goes out exploring like nobody has before. After seeing Movie 43, Superbad or Is this the End, this is still the most daring comedy film I have ever seen. One must accept his impulses to enjoy this.
If you have ever thought of doing something completely inappropriate and went on doing it, if you ever pushed a fantasy to its absolute limit in your mind, this movie will reward you like nothing else. It is a masterpiece whichever way I try to look at it and the ending still pulls a tear from my eye after 15 years
Close My Eyes (1991)
Well above its average rating
When you watch this movie just let go. Let go like Tyler Durden had to in the crashing car driven by his imaginary friend.
Placed in the ever-changing moment, it catches the lingering desire like no other and makes you crave for the inevitable, then delivers in a delayed , clumsy fashion, it is a rare display of cinematic rhythm. written and directed like a replay of a slow motion bullet, it is as spectacular as it is frightening, never straying from the rectilinear path of the barrel.
This is Saskia Reves' only big cast and an electric starter for Clive Owen's phosphorous eyes. After decades they are still hidden like gold, particularly the former. You must see and hear her to believe!
