Three Blind Mice (2023)
Giving it 4 for its attempt
I like the odd cheap horror movie, but some are just so bad I can't even watch past 10 mins ( canibal cabin ) for one.
Yes the acting is terrible, the cgi is mega drive era and the costumes are not the best. But like I said I have seen worse.
I kept watching to the end because I was intigued and to be fair I found it quit interesting and something different.
Had this have had a bigger budget I think I would have really enjoyed it alot more. The main thing I found that let it down apart from the above mentioned, is the sound effects. Hits and kills have no sound, and it sounded like it was filmed in a warhouse off of a phone. It was tinny and echoed.
But not bad for a budget horror and if you enjoy cheap thrills it's ok.
Troll (2022)
Worth a watch
Makes a nice change from your typical Hollywood movie.
Caught this film on netflix, It's a Norwegia film and the netflix version has been dubbed. The sync between English and Norwegian is a bit out but that is to be expected. After getting in to the film I hardly noticed this.
Anyways the movie itself is very well made, the CGI is great and it is acted out well. There is a slight bit of comedy added in, but this does not take away any of the seriousness of the film.
The settings are beautiful and I did enjoy watching this film.
It is rated a 12 so there is not much swearing, the odd word here amd there, there is no gore or sexual scenes so it's pretty safe for most to watch.
Overall it's worth a watch and makes a change from the norm. I feel this film is better than troll hunter 2011 another Norwegian folkelaw film.
Mortal Engines (2018)
Love it
Loved it, ignore the haters. "I have seen this type of movie many times" people. Lol uh no you have not. Really gutted that there will be no sequals. It looks amazing, and would have loved to have seen more traction cities in sequals.
I have not read the books so cannot compare but I will now read them after seeing this and really enjoying it.
The idea is great the setting is cool and the visuals are amazing. There are many other films out there based on books that got sequals that fall well short of this. Maze runner for one. Was ok but went downhill very fast. Come on get another sequal made...
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974)
So bad, watch the 2003 remake instead and ignore this
I'm sorry but this is a terrible film. I know its a classic I know it started it all. It may have been scary back in the 70's but not today its 2022 and it today this would prob be a 15. I was not born when this came out but even tho it is obvioulsy dated it is so poor. The stupid noises are unbearable throughout the film. The boring 10 mins of being chased with a chainsaw, her annoying scream. There is no sense of fear or scares here not for the modern generation. I absoloutly love the remakes they have atmosphere, fear character build up. This, this is utter rubbish and even of you are a fan of the more modern TCM movies, don't waste your time. I gove it a generois 2 stars because it staryed something great. Sorry but honest opinion for the modern day.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022)
Watch the post credits scene
As a massive fan of TCM I had to watch this. I must say I enjoyed the movie as a horror film, but it had too many flaws.
Main one being tje actor they chose to play leather face is mid to late 40's.
At this point 2022 leatherface would be 76 years old.
His movements, speed, strength, agility ect would not be as they are in this movie. And this is a massive let down. The bus scene is a bit of joke, very hollywood. I feel TCM should be about the isolation and a hanfull of characters.
I feel had this been a sequal but set, lets say the year 2000 or so then it would have worked better.
But then again there are certain parts of the movie that would not of worked back then.
Overall a lot more thought could have gone into it, I also feel an hoir and 20 mins is a bit cheap and rushed.
That said I loved the last scene just before the credits roll.
And just incase you missed it " because netflix always cuts the credits short for trailers" male sure you watch the post credits scene.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003)
Better than original in so many ways
It has been a very long time since I have seen this, but I owe it a review due to some of the poor reviews.
Some people are stuck in the past and always compare to the original. I was not alive when the original came out and I am sure many others were not too. So in modern day, yes this is far better than the original, due to buget, cast, script, acting, scenes, score, ect.
It is so brutal and raw. It has character build up, you feel for the characters. There is a geniune feel of fear for them.
The music used in scenes, everything about this film is superior and adds to its quality. It went further than the original with its brutality and suspense.
This is by far the one of the best texas chainsaw movies along with "the beginning" which is set before this movie and uses the same cast. But thats a differsnt review.
Candyman (2021)
Lovers of the original please watch
You know what Ignore all the reviews about too much politics ect. As others have mentioned, did they not see the original?? The candyman originated from racial hate. And its clear to see from these negative reviews that there is still pleanty around. GROW UP. I am a white guy and I really enjoyed the movie and the sad truth is that, these sorts of things still happen in todays world. Anyway back to film.
Yes It is a slow burn movie but it's progressive and delivers with a punch. And the final 30 seconds of the film... wow makes it all worth it. Not gonna say too much about it apart from the fact that it deserves to be the sequal to candyman. Really hope they make a direct sequal, because that, I gotta see. Thumbs up from me.
Kadaver (2020)
Great Norwegian horror
I was reccomended this by a friend and I must say I really enjoyed this movie. Sure there are a few plot holes, but it was nice to see something a little different. I can't say I am a masive fan of subtiled films I feel you miss to much by reading. But this is dubbed and although not the best, it did not affect my viewing pleasure. Like I said there are a few plot holes and could have easily been better. But for what it is 7/10 for me
Would like to see more from writer/ director Jarand Herdal. Good effort.
Spitting Image (2020)
ABSOLOUTLY, SHOCKINGLY BAD
Signed up to britbox for this. Did not even finish the first episode. Not funny at all. So so bad I honestly don't know what the writers are on. GARBAGE
Cobra Kai (2018)
Absoloutly love it
I am not really a series watcher I prefer films, but after watching the mandalorian and loving it I decided to give this a go. I absoloutly love it, superb series, I am so addicted. I love how johnny lawrence is still kinda stuck in the 80's listening to old school tunes, his car and watching Iron eagle.
Really well presented and great fun to watch.
The Brink (2020)
Ok Movie, that HAD a lot of potential.
I'll get straight to the point, the setting of the film is great, I love the fact that it is British and not some overly acted, cgi junk. Great story but as others have mentioned it could have been better.
For start the movie is too long nearly 2 1/2 hours. It does go on a bit. It had the ideas to be great, it could have been so brutal, but instead borderlines 12-15 which is ok I did not mind this, but it could have been a real shocker.
Some of the acting was a bit shoddy but I think the main thing that let it down was the sound. Ie: when some dies or gets hit, there is nothing there and that takes alot away from the effect that it should have.
Final verdict I enjoyed watching it, pretty decent movie to watch but I think it could have done with being cut down quite a bit and having the sound effects added. Good but could have been awesome, still worth a watch.
1917 (2019)
IMDB wont publish my 3 star review
This is a political statement I have tried to leave an honest 3 star reveiw on here 3 times but IMDB for some reason don't allow it??? Someone at IMDB that checks these before publishing does not like my view. So 1 star. Boring.
Wrong Turn (2003)
One of the best 00's horror
One of the best horrors of the 00's that still holds up today.
All the sequels are cheesy with very poor cgi and acting, but this the original is far from cheese.
Great cast and setting. Grusome and freaky without the stupid comedy that ruins alot of horrors. If you like off the beaten track, lost in the great outdoors horrors, then this is perfect. Still love in 2020
Rust Creek (2018)
Good little survival thriller
After watching so many films over the lockdown and not many comming out, I was running out of things to watch. After scouring netflix, sky ect after skipping this a few times I finally decide to give it a go. It was thanks to the good reviews on here that I watched it.
Not a bad movie at all, it entertained me and kept me watching till the end without losing my attention.
The protagonist is just an ordinary girl who does not suddenly become some revenge fueled hero as the film progresses. It felt real and believable. Not overly done hollywood style.
Overall it was Nicely shot, well acted and filmed in a great location. Decent little survival thriller.
Evidence (2013)
great plot, played and executed superbly
Very nicely done.
The film is played out so well, with the investigation of the incident played along side the footage found (not handy cam style) veiwed as if it was happening there and then, worked so well.
Some of the death scenes are truely brutal and the ending, well I did not see thag comming. One of the better modern horrors I thought.
Summer of 84 (2018)
Old school style horror.
Really enjoyed the whole experience, the 80's setting, music, clothes, cars ect.
It's filmed in 80's fashion too. Really well done amd paced. The film could have actually been made in the 80's it's done so well.
Based around a group of 15 year old friends who belive their neighbour is a serial killer. They persue to invesigate and gain evidence. Whether or not their neighbour turns out to be the killer is for you to find out.
I don't want to give away too much so I will stop there. Just enjoy. But if you are after a lot of gore, kill scenes and jump scares, this film may not be for you. Bjt if you have the paitience to sit through the character build up and a nostelgia trip back to being a kid in the 80's then this is a great movie and well worth a watch.
The Dinner Party (2020)
not for me, but sure others will enjoy
I am not slating the movie, it is by far not the worst I have seen. I am sure many will enjoy but not for me.
Not a bad story line, have seen the whole dinner party massacre thing before. But this movie does it with a twist.
starts off quite slow alot of diologue and opra, some scenes feel classic horror with the score and filming methods, which is intentional but works. Most of the gore is off screen and implied. Few scences of female nudity and a lot of profanity.
For me it's not my favorite sub genre in horror, and I found the film a little strange and not massivly engaging. But the movie is done in the style of classic horrors films and not your modern slasher, monster movies.
Overall not really my thing, but would suit fans of the satanic old school style horror.
The Faculty (1998)
Watch this now
Brilliant modern take on the body snatchers. Great soundtrack, star studded cast. Set in high school around a group of teens that must band together and put aside their differences to try and stop the invasion spreading. One of the better teen horror movies out their. Not scary but well worth a watch.
The 'Burbs (1989)
Suberb comedy
Great cast, very funny one of my faves from the 80's.
Great story, entertaining and one you will watch again.
Wish Upon a Star (1996)
What a great movie
Saw this back in the 90's. Funny, feel good fun. Love it. They don't make em like these any more
The Hike (2011)
great British horror
Again another decent British horror, far better than most of the Junk that comes from hollywood. It's brutal the visuals and location are stunning. Some of the lead actors diolouge is a little amateurish. But it is well paced and built up. With decent kill scenes gore.
Bumblebee (2018)
Best live action transformers movie to date
Best live action transormers movie to date.
Using original designs and voices. Great story, love the fact it is set in the 80's. The music is superb and the movie is amazing. Would love them to carry on from this bjt they wont as it is supposed to be a prequel to the Micheal Bay movies. Just wish someone would introduce Ultra Magnus and Hot Rod to the line up.
Man Down (2015)
WOW
What a movie, the way this film shows PTSD through shia's eyes is so emotional and shows what great war vets go through on a day to day basis. The movie builds up so well and then the ending wow. To see what it has been like and what the world looks like to him is amazing, this movie is so under rated. Superb, well directed and acted. Spot on. The song zombie would have been a breat addition to this movie.
Take Me Home Tonight (2011)
great 80's nostelgia
Great movie with 80's nostelgia. Good fun, excellent feel good movie it good old 80's style. Teen movie lovers this is a must watch
Can't Hardly Wait (1998)
Another superb 90's teen flick
Funny, decent soundtrack great characters. Amazing feel good flick. No nudity like a lot of todays teen movies just pure decent innocent fun. This film is full of 90's and a for a few was their first movie. Many you will notice when on to show up in a lot of the 00's teens films. There is stars from American pie, Scream, Austin powers, road trip and so on. Oh and come on Jennifer Love Hewitt. If you liked this film and JLH please try Trojan war another great 90's teens flick, and leave a review.
