A Film From A Simpler Time
9 July 2007
Unlike the other reviewers I thought this movie was good fun, but then I've always enjoyed the older movies from the 40's and 50's. Yes, this movie is not an Academy Award contender but one must also remember the time period in which this was filmed. It was a much different world then and the types of situations the characters in this movie find themselves in were very "serious" back then. Margaret O'Brien more than holds her own, as did Eleanor Donahue in her role. I didn't realize she was ever a blonde! All in all, if you find yourself in the mood to watch a movie from a much simpler time in our history then I'd suggest you pop some popcorn, grab a quilt, sit back and enjoy the movie for what it is.

Enjoyable Family Movie
5 July 2007
Okay, yes it has an implausible plot and the story line is totally cheesy. Having said that, however,it's also a very cute movie with a nice lesson in it. I've noticed that some of the other reviewers seem disappointed that this movie isn't an intellectual marvel. It's not meant to be. Sometimes movies are just supposed to be entertaining without having to be analyzed. This is one of those movies. Bill Cosby is as usual a comedic genius. I never get tired of watching him because he plays the father role very well. The supporting child actors are cute, most especially the youngest daughter. This movie is a good one for family viewing. I suggest you at least rent it, pop some popcorn, and sit with the family and enjoy it.

Truly Charming
7 December 2006
I am a Katharine Hepburn fan of many years and I never get tired of seeing her films. This one is truly one of her best TV films. Only she could make you believe that a little old lady could take down a convicted felon. The interaction between her and Ryan O'Neal is so sweet. The enjoyment they took in each other comes through loud and clear in their performances. Their pairing in this film was a stroke of genius. Ryan definitely holds his own against Miss Hepburn.

As someone else said, don't watch this with the idea of analyzing it; just go with it and enjoy. It's a great holiday film that can be enjoyed any time of year.

Haunting Movie
19 March 2006
I watched this movie for the first time last year and it stayed with me. While channel-surfing yesterday I found this movie just starting so I decided to watch it again. I'm so glad I did! This is by far one of Jane Seymour's best movies ever. She does a superb job playing a dual role and making both characters very believable. I could almost feel her pain as Mary and her confusion and angst as Jenny. If one was not inclined to believe in reincarnation they might be persuaded to believe after seeing this movie. The music is one of the most haunting melodies I've ever heard. Being of Irish descent and having travelled to Ireland several times I am well aware of the beauty of the country and the warmth of its people, which was beautifully portrayed in this movie. I also thought the ending was done quite well.

I would suggest that before sitting down to watch this movie you pop some popcorn and grab a box of tissues. Be prepared to hear the music in your head for a long time. I'm just disappointed that the music is not available on CD.
