Cobweb (2023)
Great acting, good concept
First off, Anthony Starr is so good at playing unsettling, terrifying characters and this film only proves that further. It's a little slow to start, but once the plot starts to develop it definitely pulls you in. There's not many pop ups but some scenes had Ari Aster level scare factors which really took the film to a whole new level. All in all worth to watch for any horror and even thriller fans. The special effects could have been better, the concept was somewhat familiar but the acting and cinematography made up for that in my opinion. A well made movie for sure, and very different than recent films in the same category.
Painkiller (2023)
Brutally Honest, Shocking and Eye-Opening
First off let me just say the acting in this limited series is impeccable. Uzo Aduba showed such range and conviction in her role as Edie Flowers, and I hope she gets many awards for this stunning performance. Beyond this, the storylines are painfully real, they do not hold back and truly get the message across on how horrible the drug, and the company that made it are. I was hooked from the first episode and could not stop watching. You see all sides of the opioid epidemic from the people who started it, the people who spread it, the people who fought to end it, and the victims who suffered because of it. Painkiller is extremely uncomfortable to watch at times which is a testament not only to the phenomenal acting and story telling, but the brutal reality that those who fell victim to OxyContin experience. Couldn't recommend this enough.
Lamb (2015)
Unexpected
I'd like to start off by saying I found this movie by accident - I spent the first half thinking I was watching A24's 2021 movie by the same title. I'll admit, a lot of it was uncomfortable to watch. I was constantly waiting for the relationship between the two main characters to take a dark turn, but the friendship developed between the them was endearing & heartwarming to watch. Definitely a questionable plot, a little unrealistic, but nonetheless an enjoyable little film.
Voyagers (2021)
Good concept, poor execution
I'd like to start off by saying I love Sci-fi, futuristic, space movies & anything of the sorts. This one is just not it though. It starts off slow and moves into a chaotic mess where hormone fuelled teenagers feeling emotions for the first time run a space ship. It was honestly just stressful, disappointing, and irritating. All the plot lines and twists are predictable and lazy. The only reason I didn't rate it lower is because Tye Sheridan & Lily Rose Deep played their parts so admirably. Probably wouldn't recommend this movie to anyone ever.
The Grudge (2019)
Why is the rating so low!? I loved it
As a horror movie enthusiast, I think this movie did what it was supposed to! Realistically, if you've seen the ones from the early 2000s, you realize that they couldn't really add more to that storyline. Grudge 2 only worked because a family member from the first one was a main character. This one takes place years later to where the grudge - or the curse - travelled to suburban America. The scares were decent, mind you, the rating would've been higher if some of them didn't look a bit fake. However, the cast was full of wonderful actors that played their roles very well. And as a horror movie fan, this one had aspects that make me truly enjoy them. There's a great plot, good storyline, many scenes were good at building and maintaining suspense, jump scares (that could be a bit better). The film used the element time progression in order to explained everything that led up to the current events taking place. I accept that it may not be everyone's cup of tea but my friends and I all agreed it was a solid 7 (some said 6.7). I'd say it's worth the watch! :)
Population 436 (2006)
Underrated
I threw this on because I've watched every other popular horror movie many times over & wanted to try something new. Based on the low budget feel, I didn't expect it to be nearly as good as it was. It has a lot of exciting plot points and aspects from popular A-List horror/thrillers that came out after it such as Get Out, Midsommar, and 1BR to name a few. I was pleasantly surprised and would definitely recommend this to any horror/thriller lovers. I could definitely see this movie being remade in the future.
