Tengo ganas de ti (2012)
Great cinematography. Not much else.
Whoever designed the color scheme of this film really nailed the romanticized aura of Barcelona. Too bad that's not all that a film's supposed to be because other than this aspect of the film, there's not much to it. All the key scenes are so forced, artificial, and cheesy as if a kid drew up the entire movie than a competent cinematographers rendered his cheesy-ass fantasies into fruition. If I were you, I'd stay clear away from films like this. Pure 130 minutes of disappointment.
Icarus (2017)
Mind blowing
Absolutely mind blowing film. A documentary that shatters your sense of reality with nothing but the truth that strikes to the core.
Baby Driver (2017)
This is not a good film
Just mediocre. Typical good guy, bad guy nonsense that Hollywood has been manufacturing for the past hundred years. Want to watch a film that invites you to ask thought-provoking questions? My advice is, skip this film.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017)
Typical rune of the mills Hollywood manufactured product
It's as if Hollywood ran out of ideas yet they knew that they could make alot of money if they created this film, so they said, what the hell? Let's do it. Honestly, it's just more of the same from the previous film. Complete waste of time. Unless you just want to see the previous film again.
It (2017)
Utter waste of time
Utter waste of time. This film is meme-worthy and nothing more. Sure being scared of clowns is one thing, but just because of that, you can't automatically say that a film is a good horror film just because there are clowns in it. I mean what a joke. There are times when the film does get really creepy regardless of whether you like clowns or not, but other than those flashes of creepiness, I'd say this film is overrated.
Blade Runner 2049 (2017)
This film was wayyy tooo long yet pretty good too!
Director Denis Villeneuve can be an utter genius at times. In a decade or two, he will be regarded as one of the greats because the way he presents the visuals in his films are pretty amazing and off the charts compared to other filmmakers. But I do have alot of concerns with this film as well. First of all, the "villains." I say villains with quotation marks because technically, the Blade Runner film isn't suppose to have a "classic" villain who represents the darker extreme of black-and-white, good-and-evil dichotomy, yet nevertheless, the "villains" in this film who are depicted by actors/actresses such as Jared Leto and Sylvia Hoeks are honestly flat-out sad. I know people rave about Jared Leto's acting skills, but like many good actors, in order for their skills to shine, the director has to put them in a situation where their skills can really come to a life of their own. It's only on or two actors in a generation who truly have the ability to act well in any given situation. Unfortunately, Jared Leto is not one of them, and as a result, the film Blade Runner 2049 suffers. As for Sylvia Hoeks, she's just a bad actress overall. Her acting skills reminded me of that of Milla Jovovich in that God-awful movie Ultraviolet. A real cancer to the eyes. Despite these shortcomings, the movie really has a "flavor" of its own as put on by the visual menagerie at the courtesy of its director Denis Villeneuve. I'll tell you one thing though. The visuals can be so enriched with artistic panache that they come off as really unrealistic (I mean wtf was all that human statue stuff and the bees doing there?) that it really takes you out of the whole film. And the pacing as well. There's a scene where someone finally gets to met another so-and-so and the pacing JUST. DRAG. ON. The scene that ensues after that as well in this dark, flashing place with Elvis in the background as well. Why make the pacing of the film just utterly cancerous for the viewer? Might as well take us out to the back parking lot of the theatre, tie us up onto a wooden plank and waterboard us for the next half-an-hour. But other than those snafu's, the film is pretty good, is visually stunning, has amazing acting bu competent actors and actresses (referring to Ryan Gosling, Dave Bautista, Ana de Armas, and Carla Juri. Good job you guys!), and invites the viewer to ask pretty profound questions, hence the 8 stars.
Pacific Rim (2013)
Bad acting but stunning visuals
Bad, bad, I mean, BAD acting. There are times when the Asian chick Mako has some screen time, and honestly, it's very, very cringe worthy. Idris Alba does his best to be a good actor too, but the situation that he's placed in makes him especially impossible to make his acting shine competently (esp. the elevator scene. I'll say nothing more.). With that being sad, what really saves this film are the visuals. I mean wawaweewa. The movements of the jaegers. The way they move are so realistic that you feel their enormity, their crushing gravity within you as you watch this film. It's as if you're actually there, which is what makes this film so awesome (visually)! And then there's this one scene where... I won't say anything more because I won't give it away, but trust me. When you see the film, you'll never forget it. The image will stick with you to the grave. I'll just give you one clue: sunlight. Boom. That's it. Anyhow, there are times, however, when the film makes you feel that cheap props and super fake-as-hell stuff are being used. Maybe Hollywood was cutting corners OR Guillermo needs to find himself other artists who decorate his scenes, fabricate the non-cgi equipments, and so forth. Those annoying knick knacks really killed the film. But other than that, the visuals. For those alone, the film is worth 7 stars.
Wonder Woman (2017)
Honestly I don't know what everyone is raving about
When I was in the theatre watching this film, I wished that I could go all out Adam Sandler in that Click movie and fastforward through the meaningless clips that is this film. And the saddest thing is, this is the best film that DC has made. Helen Keller would have made a better film if all she had were a bunch of gerbils to work with. But then again, that's not much different from the producers of this film.
Justice League (2017)
What a joke
Zack Snyder. Why can't you do anything right? All-star team of actors, limitless budget, solid fanbase, lots of story material to work with... How did you manage to screw this up? I guess all he wants is $ and less value. Welcome to Hollywood
Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
Pretty good film
I would have rated it 8 starts compared to how terrible other movies that Hollywood is pumping out these days, but I wanted to give you a better idea of how this movie actually is. I don't want to give it away, but honestly, it's a little above mediocre at best. Otherwise, it's ALOT better film than the rest in the Thor franchise. So grab your popcorn and expect to see a manufactured, a little above mediocre of a film with a couple of badass scenes. Not sure if just to see those split seconds of noteworthy baddassery, watching the whole film is worth it, but if you got 2 hours to burn, hey.
Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi (2017)
What the hell is this film?
Honestly. A superman-version of Princess Leia, a cheap Chinese-red backdrop for a certain battle scene (Don't worry. I won't mention any more details), a severely out of character Luke, a useless skirmish within the rebels just to fill up another half-an-hour, and terrible... I MEAN TERRIBLE acting by Domhnall Gleeson as General Hux. Honestly. Is George Lucas teaching Domhnall Gleeson how to act? I know he's a good actor as seen in other films such as Ex Machina, but in this film, he was worse than a Craigslist hire or a cheap amateur porn star actor on Brazzers. What the hell is wrong this this film... all I can say is, smh...
The Shape of Water (2017)
Overrated. Politically correct is all.
Moral ambiguity. Challenging questions. Debate-sparking presentations. That's what Guillermo Del Toro was good at! None of that are in this film. The whole time, I felt as if I was watching a political propaganda about how one should treat minorities or people of a different race. Although I value such political positions, that was not why I wanted to watch a film! I wanted to watch, experience, and immerse myself into a work of art. Not a fleshed-out, philosophically vacuous, overrated, overinflated, oversaturated propaganda! As a result, although the visuals are striking in a Guillermo-esque fashion, the subtlety, the richness, and the cerebral philosophy of what was very much entrench in Guillermo's earlier works are all gone. Truly a pity.
Breaking Bad (2008)
Pretty good
Not as good as Game of Thrones, but it's pretty good. Pretty exemplary character development and just the right balance of comedy... actually I'm not sure about that. The comedic elements, albeit very very funny, are just not realistic so they take you out of the element of "being there" in the series, but other than that and some bad acting, especially the stereotypical typecast druggies, the series is pretty good. Definitely worth a watch.
Game of Thrones (2011)
Simply the best
Amazing soundtrack, amazing acting, amazing directing. Just an overall amazing work of art. The best you'll see.
Cashback (2006)
The ending will kill you.
Kill you as in RUIN the whole film. The beginning and middle are pretty good except for a bunch of bad acting side characters, so at least the film has that going for it. Just don't expect anything amazing.
The Expendables (2010)
What a complete waste of time
Explosions, explosions, explosions, and not much else. A bad way to spend two hours of your life. Don't watch this movie.
