How I Met Your Mother: The Rough Patch (2009)
One of The Worst Episodes Of All Time
I normally love How I Met Your Mother, but this was one of the worst episodes of all time. I'd probably rank it lower than I would the Britney Spears episode. My sister and I actually fast-forwarded through the latter half to see how it ended, simply because the actual episode was so unbearable.
If you are a Robarney fan, this episode was unfortunate enough. But the break-up of this couple was NOT even close to the foremost reason I disliked it. It was, quite simply, bizarre. The off-kilter humor contained in this episode has appeared briefly in others in the past, but in this episode, dominated and detracted from the typical HIMYM humor I've come to enjoy so much.
If you've found the rest of this season enjoyable and believed the show to be stronger than ever prior to this episode, you may not enjoy it. Fortunately, the rest of the season has been so good that I plan on counting this as a fluke and hope to enjoy many more good episodes yet to come.
17 Again (2009)
So Bad It Was Funny...
A movie worth seeing, not because it was good, but actually because it was so awful. Mostly, it was a clichéd mess that threw together barely disguised parts of movies such as The Family Man, It's A Wonderful Life, Big...and somewhere in the middle of that, a Star Wars type battle scene involving actual light sabers. The acting was mediocre at times and decent at others. Predictable, the only saving graces were the decent pacing and the occasional comedic moment. The best parts of the movie were the comedic blunders of Mike (Zac Efron)'s adult in a teenage body self as he tried to befriend his children, now fellow high school students, and consistently behaved like a 40 year old man/dad instead of their peer. I would never see it again, but it was bizarre enough to make seeing it once, when you have nothing better to do, worthwhile.
Knocked Up (2007)
Offensive To Humanity
I walked out before this film was even half-way through. It was offensive to women, to Jews, to Arabs, and to humanity in general. It was crude for crudeness' sake, full of juvenile characters and foul jokes. The only saving grace was Katherine Heigl's character and her family, who made for the best scenes in the movie (though most of those were still nothing to write home about). The male lead and his friends were such despicable, immature human beings that one could not possibly sympathize with them. Perhaps this changed by the end of the movie, but I could not bear another moment of pointless vulgarity to find out. This movie is a pathetic waste of time and money.
