Criminally underrated!
2 May 2023
Remember the 70's/80's where people thought that stuff like MKUltra (CIA) was real and some had real psychic abilities? Now, imagine it's still the 80s but all that is actually true! I tell you that its not for everyone and you have to go in not expecting anything at all but if you are able to see it like that, not thinking about what comes next or what is really happening, than you will be mind blown. The movie gave me a few vibes from "LOST" in the scenes where they play the old Dharma project films. Panos Cosmatos is a freaking genius. Nicholas Cage said it best: "After seeing Beyond the Black Rainbow I wasn't able to sit for a week. I had to be on his next movie. He was and it's the masterpiece "Mandy". Maybe see Mandy first as it will probably be a gentle introduction to this. BTW, I am sure there is a LOT of the meaning and other stuff I missed but...I feel that my head would explode is I started going through that avenue..

It fails!!!

Warning: Spoilers
The movie isn't all that bad its just that it only starts halfway through. The first part is a sort of weird bad soap opera mixed with real-estate commercial style editing. Most of the shots are generic people walking around over generic places with nothing whatsoever to add to the movie. Then the script.. Looks like you have to be Christian to get into heaven because at least we get to know that the devout Muslim is definitely not on the list. The plot makes little sense as it tries to say that if us Christians leave earth, everything will fall apart...

Anyway, when the movie does start there is nice acting and pace as it kind of hooks you to see what is going to happen. Btw, Nicholas Cage acting is VERY good through the whole movie. In the end the movie if cut right might have a much higher rating but as it stands i cannot recommend it to anyone.

What a pity!

If the first movie of the series did a lot with very little this one is exactly the opposite. Although the budget was largely increased, all that was good in the first flick is lost. The story rambles and rambles, simply not going anywhere and humorless scenes last forever. These useless ploys don't advance the plot, don't develop the characters and in sum, do absolutely nothing worthy for the movie except add time to it. It is just tragic to see how the superbly flavored characters of the first movie are destroyed with cliché lines that simply are not funny. All in all, this is a very painful movie to watch and not worth the rental money, let alone a theater admission.

Romasanta (2004)

Very interesting

If we are to look upon the latest in supernatural movies, such as "Van Helsing", then i would have to say that "Romasanta" is way above them. Right from the start of the movie, one is never given the full story so the viewer is compelled to watch wanting to find out what is going on. The movie does this very well and even when the story unfolds, the emotional state of the characters is still not certain. One stays until the very end to find out. I supposed that some viewers will be disappointed because it is not an action movie, far from it. The movie is a slow, sometimes shocking, part drama part crime story which never excels in any of them. It does however hit the spot with a very grabbing story which is really much better than most of what's been seen lately.
