Percy Jackson and the Olympians (2023)
LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!
I first read these books in middle school, I grew up with this series and all of Riordan's books. This series is everything I hoped it would be! The casting is absolutely perfect, the characters feel real and the set and vfx is amazing. The pacing seemed to be a hair off, but I'm guessing it's because the first two episodes are the set up and it will even out in the next. I am so so happy to have an adaptation of these books that feels just as exciting and thrilling as the books. I didn't expect everything to me a 1:1 with the books, and they changed they did make add to the story and even give it more depth. I am so happy with this series!
The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes (2023)
A fantastic film adaptation!
I'm always nervous to see a book turned into a movie. There's always something that's lost in translation, I was especially nervous on this one as it focused a lot on Snow's internal dialog. However, they managed to pull it off wonderfully! The casting was great and both Tom Blyth and Rachel Zegler were fantastic. Blyth was able to capture Snow's conniving and paranoia. Each act was poignant and focused on the different issues within Panem, while having the same over arcing theme of the cost of war. I was focused on the movie the whole time and never felt there was a slow or pointless scene. I really really enjoyed this movie!
John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023)
Awesome movie!!
Seriously loved this one and already looking forward to watching it again. The action scenes were brilliant, and I won't spoil it but there was one scene that took my breath away with the way it was filmed. Kudos to the director, actors, stuntman and all involved in this movie. It lived up to the franchise and is my second favorite after the original.
The plot was simple, and the foreshadowing a bit heavy, but all around an awesome action movie and so fun to watch. This movie kept me on the edge of my seat waiting for the next action sequence, the nearly 3 hours passed by much faster than I was expecting. Really great movie and a must see!
Glass Onion (2022)
Lives up to the first!
I really enjoyed this movie. The story was fun and took you through some twists and turns, but was also simple enough to understand. I feel it kept in line with the first movies atomoshpere and wasn't just a repeat of same story.
Benoit Blanc was perfect in this one as well. They seemed to dive just a little deeper into his life, just enough to keep you wanting more! I enjoyed the stop in the middle of the movie to retell another view, it was unique and a fun twist. I'd guessed the true villain at the start, but didn't expect the motive or anything behind it, so I was still pleasantly sureprised. It was a fun movie and I hope to see more in the future!
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
The same old same old
Honestly super disappointed. How many times do we have to watch Thor find himself? The best part of this movie was Christian Bale, he was phenomenal! He really leaned into the character and it seems everyone else became a caricature of themselves. The jokes felt flat and constant, I was cringing more than laughing. The movie felt disjointed and a mess.
Marry Me (2022)
A classic Rom Com
Loved this so much! I remember when I was growing up I would curl up on the couch with my mom and watch cheesy rom come. They are some of my favorite memories. When I saw the trailer I new I had to take my mom to see it and it exceeded expectations! Just as cheesy as you would expect, but a lovely modern take on the classic rom com tropes. The cast was great, I didn't expect Owen Wilson to work so well in the movie but he was fantastic! Really loved this movie and made another great memory with my mom.
The Gentlemen (2019)
Guy Ritchie, Charlie Hunnam, Hugh Grant... Need I say more?
I might not need to say more but I sure will anyway! Another brilliant Guy Ritchie film for the books
This was a funny, intense, violent puzzle that kept me on the edge of my seat and kept me guessing. While the plot was fairly easy to figure out, the new characters added and where their piece fit. The casting was fantastic! Each actor played their part perfectly! Matthew McConaughey and Michelle Dockery had fantastic chemistry. The banter between Charlie Hunnam and Hugh Grant had the theater in stitches. All in all I love this movie and definitley recommend!
Brooklyn Nine-Nine: Casecation (2019)
Disappointing
SPOILERS***
I absolutely love Brooklyn 99 and I think this is the first episode I just couldn't like. Jake and Amy have a serious difference of opinions when it comes to having kids. Amy wants them and Jake doesn't. This is something that should have been discussed before marriage but it wasn't, and it was handled all wrong. Amy refuses to accept Jake's very valid points of why he feels he's not ready to have kids, going so far as to force him to debate to try to change his mind. She then gives him and ultimatum, saying he has to decided right then and there whether he wants kids or not, beciase she needs to k ow whether she needs to tsrt over o not! What the heck?!?! Not only is this out of character for Amy, but why would you marry someone then tell them if they don't want something you do, that you'll leave them? Jake's fears were brushed off as silly and dumb, while everyone seemed to be on Amy's side. At the end of the episode Jake decides he wants kids, though he reasons it differently, he is still terrified of having kids and is saying yes to keep her. I was so disappointed with this, no one should be forced into having kids. Even the attempts at humor fell flat as soon as the argument was introduced.
