Lisa Frankenstein (2024)
Perfect
"Lisa Frankenstein" is a visually stunning and refreshingly creative take on the classic Frankenstein tale. Directed by visionary filmmaker Lisa Johnson, this modern reimagining brings a whole new level of inventiveness and originality to the iconic story.
From the opening scene, viewers are transported into a vibrant and colorful world unlike anything they have ever seen before. The film's aesthetic is reminiscent of a Lisa Frank notebook come to life, with dazzling neon hues and whimsical designs adorning every frame. The attention to detail in the set design and costumes is truly impressive, creating a fantastical atmosphere that feels both nostalgic and fresh at the same time.
One of the standout features of "Lisa Frankenstein" is its amazing soundtrack. Composed by indie sensation Neon Dreams, the score perfectly complements the film's vibrant visuals and adds an extra layer of depth to the storytelling. Each track is carefully crafted to enhance the mood of the scene, whether it be a heart-pounding chase sequence or a tender moment of introspection. The music truly elevates the viewing experience and leaves a lasting impression on the audience.
In addition to the fantastic soundtrack, the cinematography in "Lisa Frankenstein" is nothing short of breathtaking. Director of photography Sarah Lane expertly captures the film's kaleidoscopic palette, using innovative camera angles and dynamic lighting to create a sense of wonder and excitement. Every frame is a work of art in its own right, from the kaleidoscopic laboratory where Lisa creates her monster to the neon-lit streets where they roam together.
But what truly sets "Lisa Frankenstein" apart is its fresh and inventive take on the classic tale. In this version, the titular character is not a mad scientist but a brilliant young artist who brings her creation to life through the power of creativity and imagination. Lisa's monster is not a grotesque abomination but a whimsical and lovable creature, brought to life with a sense of wonder and magic. This unique twist on the traditional narrative is both heartwarming and thought-provoking, challenging viewers to rethink their preconceived notions of what it means to be a monster.
The film's cast is also deserving of praise, with standout performances from newcomer Lily Evans as Lisa and veteran actor Johnathan Michaels as the voice of the monster. Evans brings a youthful energy and infectious enthusiasm to the role, making Lisa a relatable and endearing protagonist. Michaels, on the other hand, imbues the monster with a sense of childlike wonder and innocence, turning what could have been a menacing figure into a lovable companion.
Maid (2021)
Terrible characters
Problematic creative decisions create an unbalanced drama with far too many red flags, Just another feminist victim show. Alex was just so unbearable in this show. I know I was supposed to root for her, but I couldn't because she was so annoyingly dumb in everything she did. Alex is nothing short of pathetic. Dull, spineless and lacking in gratitude. I find it very hard to empathise given her complete stupidity. Does she love being a victim? I actually found myself hoping for her to fail hard at the end, but of course, she was going to be saved by the writers. This show could have been a great underdog show if not for the atrocious writing.
Firefly Lane (2021)
The worst
The character Kate is a complete narcissist who blames everyone but herself and always puts herself before anyone. Sarah Chalke was absolutely abysmal and so unlikable as this character. It just did not work and made me dislike the character even more. Kate has to be the worst friend in a show, she really is just one sided. The character Tully goes out of her way for Kate every chance she gets. It only gets worse and worse as the show goes on. The cringe that this show puts off is atrocious, everything is so overdone and unrealistic with the corniest scenarios and outcomes. Kathrine Heigl carried this show on her back and was the only reason I finished it.
Outer Range (2022)
Dumb & dumber
High hopes. But what is this? The land has been in the family for 100's of years but only the Dad notices the massive interdimensional hole in the pasture? Lets also let the random creepy girl (who witnessed a murder) camp on our land while the neighbors kid sings top 40 hits to his insane father. The stupid in this show is overwhelming, there are no likable characters, I literally just wanted them all to die by the end of the show. The shows started off okay, not really the best, then it kinds gets interested and want to know where it goes. Well.... it just gets worse and worse with the idiocy. Imogen Poots (Autumn) is the most abysmal character.
Shinseiki Evangelion (1995)
Terrible
This is easily one of the worst anime I've ever seen. Almost every character is one-dimensional and can be summed up by one adjective. Shinji is a wimp, Misato is a drunk, Rei is emotionless, Asuka is rude, etc. The world seems interesting and prompts questions, like what are the giant monsters? Where do they come from? Where are the robots from? Almost none of the questions are answered, and those that are only get answered in the last few episodes, meaning the show until then is uninteresting and unsatisfying. The characters have no curiosity about these topics either, nobody questions anything that's happening. The ending is an acid trip that barely seems to relate to the plot and comes out of nowhere with almost no lead up. There's a lack of a memorable soundtrack as well. The only memorable song is the opening theme. I would've dropped this anime by the second episode, but I assumed based on the many high reviews that it must get better. It did not.
Terrifier 2 (2022)
"terrified" with how atrocious this was
Honestly so ridiculously cringy and dumb. Acting is awful. Storyline is dreadful. The gore scenes are so dramatic for no real reason. Its almost like watching a parody of a horror movie except it goes on for too long. The plot makes absolutely NO sense, the acting is horrible, and there is literally no coherent plot. It was an actual job just to finish this movie and could not wait for it to end. I despised every single character in this movie and could care less about what happened. The ending was insufferable. Terrible acting. Terrible script. Terribly long. Just terrible in every way. Avoid.
Halloween Ends (2022)
Is this a joke?
Not to anyone's surprise, this film was atrocious and a slap in the face to the original series. Considering the first two David Gordon Green films leading up to this illogical dumpster fire, I'm not too surprised. This film makes "Halloween 6 the curse of Michael Myers" seem like a well planned masterpiece. David has taken everything great from the original Halloween franchise and turned it into an illogical, inconsistent, bubblegum teen drama parody. By "illogical", I'm not referring to the supernatural and unexplained parts, This is simple story writing of character arches, character traits, and character continuities. Nothing in this film made sense and was the worst writing.
Speak No Evil (2022)
Lost brain cells after this
The main characters literally could not get any more obtuse, naive or cowardly. The parents honestly deserved everything that happened to them, including the completely obviously and immature daughter. The father had this weird obsession with Patrick and put this weird fixation over his own family. The amount of times they could have easily escaped the captures was actually insane and so aggravating. The father character Bjorn is the actual definition of what a coward and wimp is. The plot of the movie is pointless with little to no payoff other than annoyance, aggravation and regret of watching such a idiotic film.
The Originals (2013)
How is this show rated so high???
Thousand of years old vampires walking around
acting, thinking and delivering dialogue like they are
teenagers. Everything in the show needs to be spelled
out for the audience with exposition. No one
approaches anything with any thought whatsoever to
their actions, the actions of others, or any kind of plan
for anything that occurs in the show. In the long
tradition of OC pretty much nobody is over 30 beyond
token stereotypes. The teen highschool melodrama
motivations, outbursts, and stupidity abound
throughout the show from start to end. The writing,
acting, and filming of this show is painful to witness.
I wanted something along the seriousness of interview with a vampire. What I got was sparkles and disney level stupidity. The next couple of scenes are lame, cliché-riddlen and over-acted. The strongest feeling is a complete absence of subtlety.
From (2022)
Perfect
They had the first two episodes for free without a subscription, but after the second episode, I subscribed to Epix just to finish watching this show it was that good. This show is absolutely awesome. Mystery, horror, survival, and supernatural perfectly blended together. It's gripping from the very start and keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole first season. Now this is how you do horror sci-fi. Mystery is the key. Multiple charcters with various motivations. Just people in an incredible situation with a single goal to survive and get home. It's as if the writers of The Walking Dead and Lost had a child.
A Trip to Infinity (2022)
Definition of pseudo science
Quantum is how humans like to compartmentalize and count things. Mother Nature does not do this. She works though Fields, Pressure mediations, centrifugal divergence, and centrifugal convergence. You cannot explain this universe with particles and bumping particles. Quantum does not refer to anything in nature. Quantum is a unit of compartmentalization so that mathematicians who fame themselves to be "scientists" can count things. If they can't count it, they don't believe in it. Today's scientists have substituted mathematics for experiments, and they wander off through equation after equation, and eventually build a structure which has no relation to reality. Atomists = Materialists = Scientism worshiping cult of bumping particles.
Cobra Kai (2018)
How is this rated so high????
Makes me feel like i'm watching a high school soap
opera like degrassi except worse. Very cringe, very
irritating. The acting is terrible, the script is pandering and full of cliches, every character is awful and
immature and does stupid things for no real reason. It
tries too hard to be serious but comes off as just
corny. How is this show being glorified??? It's literally equivalent to a parody or spoof it's so bad. Literally no ones cares about karate nor would there be any drama like this. All the decisions in this show are absurdly bad and get worse and worse each episode and each season.
Hardcore Henry (2015)
POV Joyride
Totally fresh , fast paced , great visuals , and most important ORIGINAL , it's a diamond among all these swarm of Hollywood franchises and soul less films with no purpose other than making quick money. This one by the way had a budget of 2M USD , makes you wonder how flicks look so crappy with a 100M budget. By far the most original and completely insanely nuts POV action/sci-fi/supernatural/anything goes movie I've ever seen. It is a non stop action packed thrill ride that never, ever gives up, and it's totally bloody, brutal and hilarious at the same time. Underrated is an understatement, if you haven't gave this a try (it's free) you'd better, you won't regret it!
Elvis (2022)
a complete mess
Frenetic, mindless, bombastic, non-sensical energy. A Baz Luhrmann fever dream. Most scenes only lasts a few seconds. Watch fast or you may miss something. Mostly, just fleeting moments of song and dance about the ups and downs (mostly downs) of Elvis depressing life. Oh, and lets also talk about the atrocious soundtrack they chose for this movie, some modern trash that had no place or reason for being in it. That final credits plays rap. Why rap??The storyline is a complete scramble, looses its pace right from the beginning and just didn't know which direction it wanted to go. The cinematography and noise is overwhelming and just never gives you a break. It was a bombastic experience and couldn't wait for it to end the entire time. Have no idea why this movie was overhyped with rave reviews because it was a complete disaster.
Grave (2016)
Pointless
Want to waste away an hour and a half of your life away with a meaningless, pointless and cringy movie? Than this is the one for you. How is this dumpster fire rated so high??
Nope (2022)
Perfection
"Nope" gave us such a breathe of fresh air in the horror genre. It has tons of suspense, unsettling sequences, and visually stunning shots. It really hade everything that checked all the boxes. It really was a unique and most original horror films of 2022 and maybe the last 5 years. It was a pleasant surprise and hope Jordan Peele continues making movies.
Resident Evil (2022)
It's as bad as all the reviews say
Save your time, this show is a teenage drama that has no relevance to zombies or the source material used to make this atrocity of a show. All the characters are unlikable, the writing is terrible, and literally has nothing to do with the games.
Highway to Hell (1991)
Underrated Gem
Such a great underrated movie, it has practical effects, shot on great locations for the budget they were given, great writing, and cameos by Ben Stiller and his parents before he was well know. Must see if you love horror comedies.
Abandoned (2022)
It's bad
For one there's literally no plot whatsoever and is a complete waste of time. If you like listening to a baby crying the entire movie than this is the movie for you. All the characters are unlikable and make the dumbest decisions. I wish I could take back my viewing of this trash film.
NOS4A2 (2019)
Terrible
The writing was pathetic and so ridiculously predictable. Spoiler: the pregnancy was repeatedly predicted like 20 times due to the garbage dialogue and the incredibly painful attempt by the writers to pretend they know what small-town life is like. Oh, what a gigantic surprise, she ends up being pregnant. The attempts at suspense were laughable, and it's obnoxious how trash the build up and moronic moves by the lead characters were. Most of the first season was spent face-palming at the awful dialogue and the "moody decisions" of the characters. Every. Single. Move. Was. Dumb.
The Thing (2011)
Great Prequel
Im confused about the bad wrap this move gets. They came up with a new way to confirm a persons authenticity, showed light on the original crew, the one who killed himself, the 2 faced monster they bring back. It leaves off where the original begins. Im a HUGE fan of the first one and i think this prequel was great.
Benedetta (2021)
Classic Camp
Lurches between entertainingly camp and shamelessly lurid. Shockingly brilliant. Unabashed, original, and has an artistic quality that is characteristic of a period film. Benedetta employs irreverence to great effect and makes you think hard. Some might find it too bizarre and controversial though.
Riverdale (2017)
Terrible
Nothing good has EVER come out of the CW, with their in-name-only loose adaptations that spit on the source material. Their reputation is on-par with Saban, DiC, & 4Kids, but instead of butchering anime & manga, their victim of choice is American cartoons & comic books.
The Descent (2005)
A masterpiece of modern horror
The Descent is another example of a perfect horror movie. The characters, story, twists, scares, tension, thrills, and it's way of constantly keeping you on the edge of your seat. The combination of monster horror, claustrophobia, and psychological terror is masterfully managed by writer/director Neil Marshall. Highly recommend.
Licorice Pizza (2021)
Perfect
It's a joy, and the sort of film that like a great LP - it's named after a Californian record store -- you'll want to play over and over. Licorice Pizza takes an arm's-length embrace of nostalgia. Anderson doesn't turn a blind eye to reality-he heightens it, weighting it with meaning, reflecting the romance of hindsight and adolescent abandon.
