Magnum P.I.: I Saw the Sun Rise (2018)
It's about the vibe
Most studios/procucers/writers do not seem to get it.
It's not about the action what made Magnum what it was.
It's about the vibe. Being on Hawaii, being the underdog, processing inner thoughts and moments.
Now it's bang bang meets fast cuts meets Soap Opera meets unfitting music.
Since i was so unfortunate to see the first episode of lethal weapon season 3, i keep wondering if you pull your ideas from some black hat for generic ideas and write the scenes down in the order you pull it out of there.
Like the Lethal Weapon remake, it about that easygoing, with it comes a certain pace of storytelling. Instead you stomped right over it.
2 stars for proper execution, none for the rest.
I get it, it's not easy to stick out of the overboarding crowd of TV shows nowadays. But that takes some guts, creativity and a bit more sensibilty on how to tell a story.
Basically that's not it.
Lethal Weapon: In the Same Boat (2018)
More generic than ever
When this series started, it was ok, contrary to the common expectations. Not very orginal anymore, certainly not that effortlessness, that certain vibe the movies had, but still watchable.
But now it feels frayed, desperately stitching generic ideas and scenes from other series together to make it work. At least pick a creative idea and not that. 2 stars because at least it was professionally executed and it could be worse. Sorry.
Westworld (2016)
Bad season 2
How can you f this so up?
While season 1 was brilliant, you lost your way completely in season 2.
You spun many storylines just to trip over cinematic wide angle shots, denying us being captivated by the narrative and its characters.
If there was any. Not so sure anymore. Some viewers are easily satisfied with the excellent executed visuals you offer us.
Granted.
But filling the whooole season with nebulous philosophical one-liners (which btw you do not even articulate clearly enough, so to make it worse, it gets confusing) about what is real/human/mortal/evolution or not, is daring. A punchline hit its goal only if the timing is right, if it's taking too long, you'll run short. And oh boy you did.
This subject, this idea behind 'Westworld' offers so much substance, and you filled it with superficial gore instead.
