Hotel Dunsmuir (2022)
"These floors go down."
What a great line. And one worthy of a entire movie just in itself.
But the line is part of a larger whole. This is an interesting one. Much like Psycho, the story starts out as one thing, then part way through the movie, becomes something very different. Toward the end, almost something different again.
But like all great horrors this one starts out creepy and never lets up.
In the closing scenes several plot lines intersect and not all of them land, but overall I thought this was a really interesting mash up.
Well worth viewing. I'll be interested to see what this writer/director does next.
The Prey: Legend of Karnoctus (2022)
Some falters, but ultimately a fun "Creature Feature"
You can tell by the behind-the-scenes imagery during the end credits, that a lot of heart went into this movie by the cast and crew. That said, the wobbly opening desert sequence with Trejo suggests the crew's time with him was limited. Thankfully, once the action moves underground the movie quickly finds its feet.
Solid performances all round once the real meat of the story picks up, and there's a fun monster movie to be had here. I had a fun Saturday afternoon watching this one, and I think you will too! Come on, you can tell what you're letting yourself in for with the title. In that regard, it does not disappoint.
Satan & Adam (2018)
A great untold blues story
Deserves more reviews here. Inspired me to write my first IMDB review.
A must watch for blues fans and/or anyone interested in New York City history. I consider myself both. Shows the ups and downs of life as a blues musician, in particular during the fallow period of the eighties when the music was cast aside.
