Speak No Evil (2022)

Ruined by too many plot holes
21 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
A Danish family meet a Dutch family on holiday and decide to visit these complete strangers in the middle of nowhere. The reasons why are explained when the Danish guy confides to the Dutch guy that his life is stifling. The director decides to downplay the tension until the big reveal and the film is creepy and intense. But the actions of the Danish family are so stupid! The mother realises thing are wrong and wants to leave the house, but she still goes out for an adults only meal and leaves her child with a strange Asian male babysitter who she's never met! She later decides it's time to leave in the middle of the night as she's found her child in bed with the Dutch couple. They drive off but realise that the daughter has lost her cuddly toy, we've been told the toy is important, so they decide to go back for it which is bad enough, but on arriving back at the house they immediately find it under a seat! Going back is bad enough but you would have thought the would have thoroughly checked the car, and when they found the toy outside the house they would/should have drove off again. When it comes to the big reveal the director chooses not to show all the photos. The Danish guy doesn't seem very shocked and just walks by a dead child face down in a Jacuzzi. He doesn't pick up anything to arm himself and calmly says to his wife we have to leave, in much the same way she said to him earlier in the film. Only then things were just a bit off, but now he's just discovered they are mass murders!! They're allowed to drive off but don't get far as their car runs out of petrol. Why? Have the Dutch couple drained it or are the Danish couple complete idiots. Take your guess. The Danish guy just leaves this wife and daughter to find help, you would have thought he would have filled his wife in on the dangers but I don't think he has, he does at least tell them to lock the car doors! But on his return he finds they are gone and with no sign of a struggle, the Danish guy finds them in the Dutch couple's car. Oh here's that nice Dutch couple we've fled from lets just get in their car. The Danish guy does the same when the Dutch couple's car approaches them, no struggle at all. It then gets worse. They cut out the child's tongue with little resistance, the Danish couple are told to strip naked and they do, they even remove their underwear without being asked to, and then they are stoned to death without defending themselves. The Dutch couple aren't even armed with any weapon. The Danish couple do ask the Dutch couple why are you doing this, and the man replies because you let us, and boy did they! The film was enjoyable in places but was ruined by the plot holes.

One for mermaid lovers
21 January 2022
A young girl with a talent for writing music is introduced to the king's court, where she befriends a mermaid.

The plot is very simplistic and the characters are a bit two dimensional, but it contains magic and mermaids This is not the film for a middle-aged man but younger viewers, especially girls, will love it.

Parenting is Troublesome

The film is set on a Greek island where a lonely and emotionally unstable Leda (Olivia Coleman) is having a holiday. We find out what's troubling her though a series of flashbacks.

Olivia Coleman is superb, and Jessie Buckley does an amazing impression of Olivia Coleman that is a joy to watch.

The film is mainly about the difficulties of being a mother and the trauma that places on the daughter. The acting is great, the scenery is fantastic and the use of Italian language of really good. The film kept me gripped, but it has a slow pace, so you have to be patient and use your imagination.

Good film but lacks empathy
19 February 2021
This is a good film with great acting, and it kept me entertained and amused, but I didn't like any of the characters! You'll enjoy the film and not regret watching it. Rosamund Pike is brilliant, as always. But it needed good characters that I could emphasise with!

The best film ever if you're a 14 year-old
24 December 2019
The comedy is crude, sometimes funny, but very repetitive. Okay to watch once for a few laughs But you wouldn't want to watch it again though

Proof that Stallone can act
13 October 2019
I only watched this film as I was told by the film critic, Mark Kermode, that it shows the Stallone can actually act. Stallone is brilliant throughout the film, and I was amazed by his performance. The moral of the story is that at some point you have to stand up for what you believe in, and you can't bury you head in the sand forever

Funny Actors in unfunny film
19 January 2019
I think Steve Coogan is great as Alan Partridge and Paul Rudd iss great as Ant Man. So I was looking forward to this film The problem is that neither of them are believable as gay men, and therefire you can not imagine they are a couple. To make it worse the little kid cannot act and provides no humour. So in the end you dont care about any of the characters well being. There are a few chuckles but no belly laughs. All the chuckles come from Steve Coogan. t's just two-dimensional characters stuck in a boring movie, with little humour to lighten up the wased 90 minutes of wasted tine
