Time Lapse (2014)
It kept me watching...
I don't come here to review movies much. I came however to check the reviews for this movie. It seemed a bit too low (around 6) for what I thought was something at least slightly above 7.
I think the movie establishes an interesting plot, it develops the characters it needs to develop. Then comes the twist, which I wasn't expecting and it was refreshing.
Some reviewers here criticize the decisions of the characters. And it's fair to note one is a janitor and another one a gambler. Each character (as the express partially at the beginning of the movie), has its own interest in what the future has for them.
What the other reviewers seem to fail to see (in my opinion) is that once they take the first bad decision, it just goes down from there.
What other behavior would you expect from a gambler? Hey, none of them are PhD's. They have no clue and most of their decisions are made out of pure fear.
Clearly blinded by fear, they just cannot make proper decisions. And I think the movie cleverly capitalizes on this. Unfortunately, some reviewers believe the characters should have written a whole dissertation and prudently decide every single move.
So I think part of the issue with some reviewers, is that they don't picture themselves in that position. Although I'm almost sure it's what happens to a large percent of the population: They take rushed decisions out of ignorance.
7 Seconds (2005)
Wait for the TV show.
The movie is terrible. I saw it thinking it would be an action movie (nothing to think about, just relax). Unluckily, I found my self annoyed by the bad production of this movie. Bad effects and acting. It looks like a low-budget one-shot production. Casting is regular (except maybe for the hot ladies that perhaps are a must in this kind of movies).
For the rest, I watch movies from beginning to end, and if this is a spoiler: The intro is kind of cool, however, the subject could be better explored and attacked.
The lack of script starts showing up after that first scene making the movie a pretty bad cliché. A tough guy beating bad guys, in the same way a kid beats bad guys in Home Alone.
It is sad that a good project and a good plot is poorly abstracted to the screen.
Dark Waters (2003)
Underestimates the audience
I think, I have seen a lot of movies by now. But this one has to be one of worse if not the worst. The first scene of the movie shows the poor special effects that you'll see for the rest of the movie. Even though I am not native English speaker, I noticed how fake the acting was. I think I laughed for the first 20 minutes of the movie for that reason. I was thinking of it, as a parody of horror movies, but it is classified as a horror/action movie. The subject of the movie could be exploited much better. Unluckily, they were mostly worried to make the two main actors look like the hottest couple on earth. Well, the actress is indeed hot, and I don't doubt for many ladies the guy might be hot too. However, that's not what a movie is made of.
The plot underestimates the audience, the end of the movie is highly predictable (almost from the beginning). The danger does not seem to scare the fearless heroes, even though this kind of heroes passed to history since Steven Seagal and Harrison Ford in the early 90's.
In conclusion, do not expect anything from this movie. It is just disappointing. If you want to see the "hot" actors that will be all the reward you will have for your money.
