No Hard Feelings (2023)
Laugh out loud but too silly at times
This is a really enjoyable comedy for the most part & there are quite a few laugh out loud moments throughout. Unfortunately it lets itself down with a few over the top scenes with bad CGI that really detracted from the sweet comedy theme of the movie.
The acting is great, Jennifer Lawrence is hilarious & her counterpart plays the role of sweet, socially awkward teenager very well. Apart from a few scenes that spoil the tone & a cheesy ending this is an enjoyable comedy film & worth a watch (maybe not a rewatch).
If Jennifer Lawrence's performance was backed up by a slightly better storyline this would easily be a 7 or 8 out of 10.
Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022)
Really good!
I'd put off giving this series a chance due to some of the lacklustre reviews but I've been pleasently surprised by one of the best Star Wars series so far. Loved seeing some of the main characters from the film's. I wasn't sure about Obi-Wan at first but by the end his journey in finding himself as a Jedi was really enjoyable. It was also brilliant to see the power of Vader with up to date special effects & choreography. If you enjoyed Vaders appearance at the end of Rogue One then you will enjoy this.
I wonder if some of the reviewers forget Star Wars is aimed at a wide audience, it's also for children & not just adults. Either way I thoroughly enjoyed the series & it's one of my favourite Star Wars series, along with the Mandalorian.
The Last of Us (2023)
A decent adaptation
This is a good series but it has been overhyped. It's a fairly decent adaptation of the source material. If you haven't experienced the games already then you are more likely to enjoy this.
The acting is solid for the most part but lacking at crucial moments which stop you from really connecting with the characters in my opinion. Also for a zombie survival style series there is a surprising lack of zombies.
This is well worth a watch, especially if you haven't played the original game which is a far superior piece of storytelling. It really does lack anything special to warrant the 10 star reviews though. This is a solid video game adaptation but not a groundbreaking masterpiece. Considering the existing storyline there is to work with, this could have been better.
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore (2022)
Best instalment so far!
I'm surprised about the amount of negative reviews. Really enjoyed this film & it's my favourite in the series so far. The acting is great across the board. Dumbledore features much more heavily in this film & although I love Johnny Depp, Mads Mikkelsen makes an excellent Grindelwald.
The special effects, especially during the dueling sequences are visually impressive.
I really like how this film has started to tie into the later Harry Potter films an i'm looking forward to the next instalment in the series.
The first two installments have been a little slow for my taste but the reviews for this seem quite harsh, it's worth a watch!
Glass Onion (2022)
Dissapointing
I don't understand all the reviews I read previous to watching this film saying it is better than the first. It isn't in any way.
I really enjoyed the first film but in this version, the characters aren't as memorable or likeable, an it takes a long time to build up the little momentum it has.
The premise to this movie is quite strange, it doesn't draw you in like it's predecessor. It almost feels like it has missed the mark with it's audience. I had to explain a lot of the references to my family while watching, like what a twitch streamer is, the game among us etc. (I can't imagine this film being hugely popular with an audience young enough to understand all these references)
This was a disappointing follow up an not what I was expecting.
