M3GAN (2022)
I really enjoyed this one!
If your a fan of "Child's Play" and "Morgan", then you're going to love their bouncing baby bundle of joy, "M3gan". Take a cup of serious consequences for taking AI to the edge, stir in a healthy dose of of stinging retorts only a mean girl could sling, add a dash of junior pom squad moves and a pinch of perfect Mr. Roger's moments and you have a memorable flick that will make you ponder the future, uncomfortably laugh at its very real possibilities and hope it's just as incredible, but with very real security protocols in place and a lot less blood. Pretty sure this one has a fair shot at becoming a cult classic.
Nope (2022)
A pleasant twist on a popular genre.
I was pleasantly surprised by how well this kept my attention, especially since I have ADD. It was a pleasant twist on a popular genre. That being said, there were a couple caveats:
One, I feel it could've gone into the inner workings of the phenomena a bit more. Without giving anything away, it just seemed to be lacking in that spectrum.
Two, while indulging the possible correction of caveat number one, they could've significantly reduced the risk taken in drawing out the ending. There's a fine line (IMHO) in suspense/mystery movies, where you draw the audience in, hook them, then let them experience a spectacular ending and drawing it out so much, they start wondering when the ending will actually come.
Overall, I enjoyed this movie and recommend it for those interested in the otherworldly.
Shrek Forever After (2010)
Soundtrack is so distracting.
The soundtrack, for lack of a better word, sucked. 😝 I don't know who was put in charge of it or why it made it all the way to production, but anyone involved needs to be fired. Shrek 1 & 2 were awesome and the soundtrack for 1 was phenomenal. Every song was a hit! I don't know what happened with Shrek 3, but a whole bunch of people either fell asleep at the wheel or were completely drunk. Sometimes I wonder how big name movie franchises can bomb so spectacularly, but Shrek 3 was a nuclear meltdown. Rumplestildkin was utterly annoying. I suppose that's better than being a maniacal kidnapper, seeing as it's a kid movie and all, but he also came off as a half-arsed rendering to me. They just really dropped the ball on this one.
Sunshine (2007)
How did this get such a high rating???
You literally have no idea what the heck is happening from one moment to the next. It doesn't explain anything, not even a little bit. It's a jumbled mess of poor attempts at miraculous insight while falling short of even a glimmer of forethought. If you find this movie entertaining, it either doesn't take much to amuse you or you're pretending to be an intellectual without realizing this movie couldn't possess the tiniest shred of intellect if it tried.
40 Days and 40 Nights (2002)
Horrible movie!
If I could give it 0 stars I would! Basically, this movie paints all men and women as sex hungry animals. And even promotes male rape! I'm not an uptight person. I love sex. It's not that. It's the messages being sent in this movie are absolutely awful!
Happy-Go-Lucky (2008)
Couldn't make it past the first 30 minutes.
Couldn't make it past the first 30 minutes. Super slow moving and poppy's laugh was sooooo annoying, forced and unnatural. This movie was just a chore to watch, so much so that I stopped watching after a half hour.
Time Is Up (2021)
Tries waaaaaay too hard...
Horrible. Jumps all over. Tries to include all the cliche romance/drama aspects of a film, but fails miserably, because nothing lands smoothly. It just smashes head long into the pavement. Kinda like your expecting Bella's character to do (in accordance with the movie trailer); and yet, here we are, an hour in and still no traffic accident with 48 agonizing mins to go. All your asking at this point is, "What the heck is going on?"; but, more importantly, "Why am I still watching this?" And, that's when she gets hit by the wayward vehicle. So, you figure you'll stay a little longer, in hopes that this crap shoot of a movie will somehow get better. I'm here to tell you, "Don't bother".
McFarland, USA (2015)
Could've been better.
It - just - dragged - on. There could've been so much more substance to this film; but, instead, so many areas were figuratively filled with dead air.
Santa Inc. (2021)
Yes, it's funny and raunchy!
If you like Robot Chicken or South Park, you'll like Santa Inc. I don't think it's as good as the previously mentioned shows, but it's still enjoyable.
Oldboy (2013)
Could've been better...
It could've been so much better if it wasn't filmed in true-motion. True-motion makes movies look like cheap soap operas. I have no idea why anyone would think it's a good choice to use this filling method for any movie.
Malignant (2021)
I was surprised by the twist and that's hard to do these days.
I would've given a higher rating if the acting was better. I have a feeling the budget didn't allow for it, perhaps because the script didn't get the support it deserved. I believe this could've been so much better. It's a shame really. I was actually surprised by the twist and that's hard to accomplish with me these days.
The Disappointments Room (2016)
Disappointed
Its all over the place and your hoping for the pieces to come together somehow. It keeps your attention as you wait for some big revelation; but, instead, it unravels and falls apart, ultimately leaving you disappointed.
D-War (2007)
Waste of time.
Only reason I gave this 3 stars is for the semi decent action/special effects sequences. As for the plot and rest of the movie, you spend the whole time watching a snake chase a girl its supposed to eat. The thing can plow through buildings, toss vehicles like confetti, but as soon as it gets within inches of the girl, it somehow thinks staring at her and roaring loudly is the equivalent of eating her. Just when it looks like it might have a brain cell that's working, the army or cops show up and start shooting at it. This is probably similar to spitting paper wads from straws, as the thing can have a building fall on top of it and literally go unscathed. As you can imagine by now, instead of enjoying an action packed movie, you spend the entire time throwing your hands in the air, thinking how stupid the plot is or how much effort was put into it and wondering how no one thought it was a waste of time.
The Little Hours (2017)
Could've been so much more...
This film could've been so much more. Given the very talented all star cast, I expected to laugh with vigor; but, instead, found myself waiting for a moment that would never come. In the end, I was bitterly disappointed and left wondering exactly what the whole point of this film was supposed to be.
The Voyeurs (2021)
Dumbfoundingly Dull
Didn't even make it a quarter of the way through. Don't waste your time on this one.
What If...? (2021)
Unwatchable
Voices for the characters sounds nothing like the originals, they didn't even try. Plot moves so slow your literally waiting for something to happen that never comes. I seriously have no idea where all the high ratings are coming from. It's a total joke.
Trance (2013)
A trip to misremember.
Confusing and yet oddly satisfying! Twists and turns abound and where you end up is anybody's guess.
Old (2021)
M. Night does it again!
Another entertaining and thought provoking piece of work! Worth the watch!
Chaos Walking (2021)
Actually quite good!
I think this movie was much better than the critics give it credit for. Think Star Trek meets Divergent, with some humor mixed in. I think you'll like it too! 😊
The Wolf Hour (2019)
Deserves far more than a 5-out-of-10 star review.
If you're looking for the typical mindless, crash 'em up, shoot 'em up flick that some of us like to get lost in every now and then... this ain't it. However, if you're in the mindset for and intellectual yet gritty, raw look into the human ( or maybe non-human) psyche, then pull up seat on the comfy couch, assume the "poised-to-ponder" position and enjoy!
The Beach House (2019)
Close, but no cigar.
It almost connects and then falls flat on its face. The acting was good, but definitely one of those movies where a different director might have made all the difference.
Space Station 76 (2014)
The movie was ok, until...
The movie was ok, until they killed a puppy. Why?! I don't get that part and think it was completely unnecessary. 😭
Supervized (2019)
Better than a 4.9
I actually think this movie is about a 6.5 out of 10, but have it a 10 to help bring the rating up, because it definitely deserves better than a 4.9.
I See You (2019)
Great... up until about 3/4 of the way through...
Great... up until about 3/4 of the way through the movie, when everything got ridiculously stupid for a moment. But then, it got back on track and I "almost" forgot about the aforementioned faux pas. However, due to that regrettably lazy writing instance, this movie's potential for greatness was unfortunately cut down prematurely.
Snatchers (2019)
The next cult classic!
It may not be the best, but it's certainly not the worst. And, for those who choose to watch it, they become the lucky ones who'll be enjoying this cult classic for years to come.
