Gojira no gyakushû (1955)
Good...No, Awesome Godzilla Movie!
Let me just begin this review by saying that I never intended to like this movie. I only got the DVD to add to my Godzilla collection. I knew that it was old and some of the stuff in the movie looks cheesy and the gave Godzilla the name Gigantis, but I misjudged this movie.
Godzilla Raids Again is definitely one of the top contenders for my favorite Godzilla movie (right with Final Wars, Gojira and Godzilla 2000.) Seeing as this is one of Godzilla's rarer movies, I consider myself lucky that I saw it.
So, to sum up my review in 1 sentence, I guess I'll say this. This movie wasn't what I expected, in a good way.
Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd (2003)
Why Does Everyone Hate This So Much?
Before the events in Dumb & Dumber, before they move on, before they grow up (very slowly)...there was high school.
Basically it's Eric Christian Olsen taking over for Jim Carrey and Derek Richardson taking over for Jeff Daniels. It wasn't as long as Dumb & Dumber, but that can be overlooked, especially knowing that comedy movies are all spanned around 75-90 minutes with about 30 exceptions every year.
I can't understand why everyone hates this so much. Is it because Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels weren't in it? If that's so, then let me ask you this. Since they've aged 9 years since Dumb & Dumber, do you really think they'd be perfect teenagers? Jim Carrey reached his 40th birthday in 2002! Overall, Dumb & Dumberer was 85 minutes of pure fun.
The Number 23 (2007)
Didn't Focus as Much on 23 as it Could Have
I still rate this excellent film 10 out of 10 (I actually think the "23" in the title meant that I would vote this 23 out of 10 if I was able to), but I noticed that this movie doesn't have as many references to the number 23 as you believe it would. There's a lot, but not as much as expected.
WARNING IN CASE YOU DIDN'T READ ABOVE: SPOILERS BELOW!!!!!!!!!!
This movie focuses more on how Walter Sparrow's life is getting consumed by a book he forgot he wrote. He had killed a girl on her 23rd birthday and automatically regretted it, and so he wrote a suicide note and survived, so he was taken to therapy for the next year of his life and meets Agatha.
My opinion is that the movie should have been called "Fingerling" since the main character in the book he wrote was named Fingerling.
POSSIBLE SPOILERS MAY FOLLOW BELOW: Oh, well. I've learned to take what I've got. It's not like there's only 23 references to 23. There's at least 40. But, taking from what's there, 10/10 stars.
The Longest Yard (1974)
Great Legacy
Seeing as this year this movie will have it's 33rd birthday, it has had a great legacy. I saw the remake with Adam Sandler, and that made me want to see this version. I didn't expect to like this, as I've had pretty bad encounters with movies made from 1980 or earlier.
But...I did like this. For a movie that's 33 years old, it's long and has a touching story. Burt Reynolds was great as the hero.
It is long. I'm not calling it a bad thing, though. This story is really too great to only be told in 90 minutes. Over 2 hours is a long time for someone with no attention span, but I can stay for a long time.
If you can stay in your seat for 120 minutes and like these movies, rent or (I strongly suggest to) buy The Longest Yard. It has a great legacy, and it isn't about to die yet!
A Night at the Roxbury (1998)
Best Movie Based on a Skit Ever
This could just be because I like Saturday Night Live, or because I like Will Ferrell, but I have to say that this is a really great movie. It only got a 9 because it is so short. This would be a 10 if it had at least 90 minutes. It would be better with Jim Carrey, but...taking what we have...this is really great.
The Roxbury Guys is one of the greatest recurring skits, only 2nd to Celebrity Jeopardy! (But Roxbury is the best that is eligible for a movie).
So, in closing, I'm gonna say that A Night at the Roxbury is great if you have a good weekend. 9/10 just for length. So, if you have 81 minutes of spare time, A Night at the Roxbury, maybe?
Over the Hedge (2006)
Stupid
Now I know I just plain don't like these kinds of movies, but this movie is at the bottom. The WAY bottom.
It wasn't funny at all. The story was stupid. I could go on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on about this...but I won't...aside from this: the voices were annoying. It was too crazy. It tries to spoof too many things.
I really don't like these kinds of movies, but this one stood out as the worst one. I'd rather Barney than this stuff. So if you've got 90 minutes to waste and some money to rent a movie...rent some Barney videos.
Dumb and Dumber (1994)
I'd Rate This 20 if I Could
This movie is a great movie. I saw Dumb & Dumberer before this, and it only made me respect this movie more. It is an excellent comedy that hasn't been so true to the genre in years. Another good thing is that it is one of the longer comedies. I mean, yes there are comedies that are over 2 hours, but nowadays, it seems like there's a rule: comedies may NOT exceed 90 minutes, as every comedy I've seen recently is a completely short movie besides Click, where if you only count the comedy part, though, it's about 69 minutes. Another good thing is the choice of actors. Jim Carrey was great for this. Not only is he one of my favorite actors, but he is just plain funny. So if you have 100 minutes of spare time, I recommend this movie. I rated this movie 10, but I'd rate this 20 if I could.
Mario Party 3 (2000)
Mario Party 3...3rd Best
Mario Party 3 is one of the best games I've ever played. Of the 7 Mario Partys released, I'd have to rate it 3rd with 9/10 (Mario Party 2 & 1 are tied for 1st with 10/10). It is a very fun game. With fun mini-games like Toadstool Titan, Picture Imperfect, Eatsa Pizza and Locked Out. Also, when you become the Miracle Star in the story mode, you unlock Game Guy's room! I love that room. I always end up getting 1,000 coins in there.
With the many Mini-Games there are, and all the fun boards, 6 4-player, 6 duel, 12 total, Mario Party 3 is endless fun.
Mario Party 3, it is the 3rd best Mario Party I've played, and 10th best game played.
