Unicorn Store (2017)

Simple but effective
6 April 2019
I loved everything about this film. Brie Larson's directoral debut did not disappoint. Sure, it seems like an innocent story of growing up but when you delve deeper you realise that everyone has different ideas of what growing up is and growing old does not necessarily mean growing up. It brings back the innocence and fun of childhood, and following Kit's dream took you on a whimsical story that made you feel like anything was possible again. It's one of those films that you either love or you hate. It all depends on whether you can relate to it. For me, I felt the film was really uplifting and inspired you to not lose your creativity, even with the worry of failure.

Could have been better
4 December 2018
I felt that the story was good, it was an interesting perspective on the little mermaid, however there's masses of room for improvement. There were a few half-decent actors but the acting was pretty bad overall. The score/music was very basic and repetitive, the editing wasn't great - the film didn't really flow properly - and the script included many cringe-worthy lines. It's what you'd expect from a low-budget film like this one, but if this was done better I think it could have been a really good movie.

Enjoyable family movie
4 November 2018
I don't understand why this film has so many hateful reviews. As someone who loves Disney movies, I can safely say I thouroughly enjoyed this. I don't know a great deal about the original story or the ballet, but the film stands on it's own very well. Although I felt I was watching a spin-off of Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland in parts, my high expectations for the film did not disappoint. I felt every actor fitted their role perfectly, espically Mackenzie Foy, who in some ways brought the entire film to life. It's not without it's flaws, but don't go to watch this film with the expectation that it'll be anything more than a coming of age story made by Disney. It's not phenomenal, but it's perfect for people who want to watch a decent family film. I get that it's not everyone's type of movie, but give it a chance and you might actually enjoy it.

Hopeful for the rest of the first season
27 October 2018
From what I've seen in the first episode, it's not quite met my expectations of what I thought the show would be like. But with it being a spin-off of both the originals and the vampire diaries, it's got a lot to live up to. The storyline seems very rushed at this point but I'm hoping it will improve as the series progresses.

The Vampire Diaries (2009–2017)

So much more than a supernatural teen romance
27 August 2018
First off, I can tell you that this is not just a story about a love triangle involving two incredibly good looking vampires. I'm sure lots of people may assume it's just a rip-off version of twilight, but in reality it's a lot less glamorised and a lot more believable. Twilight shows unhealthy relationships (romantic and parental) and an unrealistic take on supernatural creatures. The vampire diaries includes a lot of romanctic relationships, but emphasises what's ok and what's not ok. Although the main character lost her parents before the pilot, she has a strong bond with her brother and other family and friends. Also, she often sacrifices herself for others and puts others needs before her own.

This show isn't all about romance and sexy vampires, it's about family, friendship, loyalty, forgiveness and so many other things. During the 8 season run, there are countless things explored in TVD, and although the last couple of seasons weren't amazing, it keeps your interest throughout. This is definitely a show for teens and young adults, and probably wouldn't appeal to an older audience, but I think Julie Plec and the rest of the writers have done an almost perfect job in adapting this show from the book by L.J. Smith.

The Innocents (2018)

A refreshing original show
26 August 2018
I almost gave up on this show half way through the first episode due to boredom and lack of interest, but by the end of the episode, I knew I had made the right decision to carry on with it. The people giving it a 1-4 star rating barely even watched it. Yes, it is slow to start with, but it gets better with every episode and by the end I found myself wishing there was a second season. I really liked that it wasn't your typical supernatural-teen-romance show, which allows for an older audience as well. The British and Norwegian settings made it seem more natural compared to if it were an American show. One of my favourite things about The Innocents is how, at first, it leaves a lot of gaps in the audiences knowledge about the characters and plot, but as the story unfolds, more and more is revealed as the viewer is able to piece together how and why everything that is happening. This in turn makes it a show where anything can happen. Personally, I enjoyed all of the unexpected revelations throughout the episodes and all of the twists and turns in the plot, but I understand this is not a show for everyone. If you're thinking about watching this show, give it a chance and try to watch past the first 3 or 4 episodes, because it does get better and more intriguing as time goes on.
