Rebirth (2016)
A cult parody.
A lot of the reviewers here and no doubt a lot of the audience miss the parallels in this movie to scientology.
Although the early indoctrination, like the punch, happens later on and at usually higher levels in scientology, it is still a spoof on this modern nightmare cult, especially with the saturation brainwashing and love bombing.
Anti-scientologists all over the world pointed out this movie and they were right. Just check the web.
The Crossing (2018)
Excellent series cancelled by fools
I enjoyed this serie(s) from the first episode.
It was so well written that I didn't get bored and skip to the final episode.
Each episode has plausible science fiction and the story takes many, interesting and shocking turns. Well worth the watch. Except,... while on episode 8 I discovered that ABC cancelled the show. Typical corporation.
I usually check on series cancellations in the past so as to avoid becoming immersed in the plot, to avoid having some over-paid nitwit(s) decide to cancel the series. I didn't do this with this series (of 1 season). My bad. I paid the ultimate price.
Too bad actually; ABC could have made a fortune on the spin-off movies and series.
I'll be more careful in the future: reviewing a series for sudden cancellations, before I become a fan.
👍The Crossing
👎🖕ABC.
First Signal (2021)
A waste of however many minutes you watched before you stopped watching this movie.
I selected this movie out of Prime, which had lasted an IMDB rating of 7.0. I rarely watched a movie lower than a 6.0,... so I was anticipated a decent flick.
At 2 minutes in I began to wonder how it achieved a rating of 7.0. It got worse. At 5 minutes in I decided to read the reviews here of this god-awful movie droning in the background. The average user review was 1.0, which I'm assuming is high because we can't vote zero. Nonetheless, I have never seen a worse movie in my life, including Plan B and Killer Tomatoes. The acting was mechanical, the response and interactions were robotic, along with the absolutely silly and forced facial and acting expressions. A lot of the dialogue was so monotonous that I just had to stop the movie 20 minutes in while writing this review, I couldn't stand another minute of it.
IMDB seriously needs to review it's rating system; how could a 7.0 ever happen in an ocean of 1.0's?
To sum it all up; don't bother even watching the review. Every minute used while watching this B movie is a minute well spent on anything else.
Too bad,... could have been a great movie.
Bis nichts mehr bleibt (2010)
Been there,...
I had a difficult time watching this movie. I had to rely on the English subtitles, which was fine, big it was the plot that brought me back to my 2 years involvement in this greedy and inhuman cult. Step by step the plug portrayed what I went through, endured,... the abuse and mind indoctrination and total complete control of someone's life, right from the beginning. ...and it is only all about every penny they can extract out of their converts to pay for scientology's 1/4 built 'bridge to total freedom,' which can cost millions and us 'unfinished' at that, or that ever available staff contract sign-up, both of which leave their believers handing over everything in time and money and freedom that they possess.
Those watching this movie will see this cult constantly reiterate Hubbard's blatant lies and deceit, such as a common Hubbard quote of, "in scientology, what is true is true, only if is true for you" is 100% a complete lie, since in scientology what is true for you is ONLY what Hubbard and his minions yell you is true, nothing else.
The saddest part of this movie is the cults horrible insistence that family members leaving the neural brainwashing network cannot be communicated to in any way, including children remaining behind in a lost land of indifference towards children in the cult (because they cannot produce anything, any money or covert anyone).
Having lived and survived their lies and mind bending nonsense, I can 100% vouch for the accuracy if thus movie; its sadly very, very accurate in its screenplay.
Hold the Dark (2018)
Worth the watch
I found this film engaging, and very violent.
The storyline begins with the disappearance of a young boy playing outside in an Alaskan winter setting, assumed to be the prey of a wolf, although we don't see the actual attack.
We then see the distraught mother call a wild ecologist and author, whom has studied wolves and came across a wolf, which he was forced to kill. The woman writes him and explains why she needs his help. He makes the trip to Alaska and the young mother asks him to find and kill the responsible killer wolf.
This is where the movie splits and takes on parallel stories of the people involved and others in the area., some very violent.
After a little nudity and weirdness between the mother and the author/hunter, he begins his hunt and comes across a pack of wolves 'savaging'; eating a pup for survival of the pack when the wolves are starving, or stressed.
This is the foundarion of the entire movie; killing ones own species, when stressed, and half-mad, or worse, due to stress in their environment.
There are a number of mystical and psychological drives at work on the characters.
A dark, violent and engaging movie.
