Ridley (2022)
Clunky script and direction
Poor script and cliched storyline. Nowhere near as good as Gently, Shetland, Morse, Endeavour or Frost.
Felt like it was trying too hard. Writing was poor.
It felt disjointed, not enough time and space for the characters to develop. The script was harsh and abrupt, making it unrealistic and over dramatic.
I didn't feel any drama at all, it wasn't gripping or particularly interesting. Perhaps they tried to cram too much into one episode?
Even the people in the jazz bar at the end looked odd...overacting much?
The main cast are being let down by the direction and dialogue.
Plus, what is the penchant for one word titles? A bit passé.
Some People (1962)
Saw it last night for the first time - fantastic!
I heard of this film from my brother-in-law basically because it was filmed in my home city. I thought it was fantastic, with all the scenes of Bristol before I was born. It was great fun trying to guess where it was filmed. Clifton, Filton, probably Patchway, Broadmead (but which store?), City centre, Totterdown, The Downs, The Portway and the now re-built bus station. Kenneth More is brilliant as ever. It might have been a bit corny but not as bad as a Cliff film. I purchased a DVD of it off ebay (not great quality as it had been transferred from video) and really enjoyed it. When will it be available on DVD in all its remastered glory?
