The Best of Sex and Violence (1982)
Thank god for this VHS
In the 90's, my roommates and I rented this VHS on a whim because of its hilarious box art. We ended up loving the hell out of it, renting it again and again, and vowing to watch every cheezy blaxploitation/horror/t&a movie for which it included a trailer. While I can never un-see Vanity screwing a monkey ("Tanya's Island"), were it not for this tape, I might never have encountered the great Rudy Ray Moore and one of my favorite movies of all time, the bad-asssss "Dolemite".
Strange Days (1995)
Great, if you want to feel like puking
At first I found this film so laughably '90s that it was painful to watch. My lungs ached as I guffawed at Angela Bassett's wasted talent among scenery-chewers like Tom Sizemore, Ralph Fiennes, Vincent d'OhNofrio, and Juliette Lewis's boobies. Sure, it "predicts" Go-Pros and Fox News, but that doesn't make up for the overly-long plot, shoehorned-in character development, and unnecessarily vivid 1st-person rape and murder sequences. Kathryn Bigelow directed this awful piece of Tarantino-wannabe trash? James Cameron wrote this? No surprise this bomb sank like the Titanic!
