Mamula (2014)
Slow pacing and unlikeable characters
There is nothing special about any of the characters whatsoever and in fact, only one is somewhat close to being likable (she is close but still kind of forgettable) whereas the others are just obnoxious. The pace feels slower than it is, it just feels like it's taking forever. Even with the quick opening that it has to let us know that it's a horror movie it still feels like it's just lagging and that has a lot to do with the character writing and casting. It's very flat, if that makes sense. The music is also unbearable, it is dripping in soap opera soundtrack. The FX are not bad however and props to them on those.
The Sand (2015)
It's a fun low budget horror!
First of all, you gotta respect low budget horror ok. It doesn't always follow rules and it takes a lot of work to make them. That being said, there are some mild character cliches in this one but honestly, it's pretty well acted. The premise is a very cool idea and nostalgic of 80s horrors. It's a lot of fun and never boring. Plus not having an all white cast was a plus for me, I appreciated that at least 2 main characters were not white (could have been more, but hey, progress). The FX were not terrible either. Honestly the reviews are too harsh on this one. It probably killed it at horror film festivals.
The Wolf of Snow Hollow (2020)
Has a great scare moment
It has a great scare moment! The reveal in the end is a very cool scene and made the whole movie for me, its worth it to get to that reveal! All I will say is when he tells the guy to fully stand..... omg excellent!
Girl on the Third Floor (2019)
Poor direction for the actors
It's hard to make a movie! I give this props for going for it and knowing it's genre and tone. I think this is probably the directors first film as the direction of the actors is stiff and as though they are literally doing a single take or reading from the page. It didn't feel realistic. But I have faith the next film from these guys will only improve.
NOS4A2 (2019)
A fun watch
This is a fun watch and definitely has some Stranger Things vibes, if perhaps a touch darker. The main character Vic is a decent lead and well directed, and of course the villain Charlie Manx is played brilliantly. The side character Maggie is not skilled at acting and not well directed in this however and pretty much ruins every scene she is in. I recommend watching the full series though.
The A List (2018)
Decent
If you can be ok with the fact that actress Lisa Ambalavanar looks like a 30+ year old playing 16, you might be able to get into the show. The side characters are played very well and the story line is decent and pulls you along through each episode. The villain, Amber, is spooky and creepy for sure. It does run a bit slow at times but once you have invested in it it's impossible to just not keep going. I found this a fairly good show.
Born Rich (2003)
Torture
This was a subject that sounded so intriguing at first, but would have been better had a 'professional' come in from the outside and filmed a documentary, not Jamie Johnson who made what looks like a first year film students piece of work. His voice is torture to listen to and of course being the maker he has to narrate it...
There was no one I found interesting in the slightest bit here because it felt like the heirs were in control telling the story. Again, someone from the outside should have come in to really get a sense of what effects being born rich has on them.
Waste of time, this documentary. A real piece of crap.
