Seize Them! (2024)
Such an oditty
The worst film I've watched that I really rather enjoyed. What a strangeness this is. It felt as though the brilliant cast were making something else that didn't take all that long, so, in their lunchbreaks they made a film on the side. The budget must have been at least £12.50 (ironically the total takings for the 9 o'clock showing not including crisps and a coke) but all that aside, we quite enjoyed it. Sad to say we were the only two in the late showing at our local budget cinema, slightly shocking considering it was the opening night.
Can't see films like this being the saviour of the silver screen.
I think the unnecessary gore and swearyness could easily have been cut and the film could have been a PG rather than a 15 opening up a much larger Easter holiday audience.
Beatriz at Dinner (2017)
Depressing
Great acting can't make up for this depressing waste of 90 minutes. Made me wish the world had less time left.
Apparently I have to keep writing stuff just to make the review long enough to count, which is ironic as the 10 minutes of plot in this film was also padded out to make it long enough to count as a feature and not an arty b-movie.
I really don't have anything else to say aside from the fact that I didn't need to watch this film to persuade me to think that rich people are also a massive waste of earth's resources. Perhaps that's the point that was being made, we'd all be better off if they would all just walk into the sea.
The Curse (2022)
Great 80's vibe spoiled by poor ending
The net says this series has Ended/Cancelled which is odd because the show, if it finished, had a really weak ending with so many loose ends I'm sure they intended a 2nd run. Enjoyable because of the character acting and sets but ultimately disappointing.
Kelvin's Big Farming Adventure (2022)
A beginner's guide to farming
This is not farming and these are not farmers. But it is interesting to see them dabble in various different livestock keeping. At most at the moment they are enjoying a funded hobby, but all the same it's plesant watching while we eat dinner. I do wonder how well paid the actors in Emmerdale are though, there seems to be a golden goose somewhere on this farm..
Secrets of the Transport Museum (2021)
While the women are busy with Jam and Jerusalem, the men tinker in the garage
It's clear from the outset that the makers are in love with this little British museum and its occupants, Little snippets of conversation are heard throughout that tell so much more than the documentary initially promises. These old men and occasional woman are national treasures that have found a home in Brooklands. If it were to ever shut its doors, for a housing or warehouse development, it would be nothing short of sacrilege.
The program is a pleasure from top to tail and although it is not usually my first choice of watching, when I do stick it on I'm always happy and relaxed by the end. Now I've run out of episodes I find myself wishing for a return of the series.
Sliced (2019)
Just doesn't land well
When series 2 showed up on my series link none of us could remember what it was. That is not a good sign. I am half way through episode one and am seriously thinking about watching an episode of Phone Shop to cheer myself up. Sliced just lands flat with almost every gag. Damn shame. Phil's earlier work had me in stitches, constantly. The actors don't really help in this case as they seem a bit shallow, immature and unbelievable. It's not their age, more their lack of experience perhaps. I am clearly not the target market but good comedy should work for anyone.
Series link deleted.....
Now searching for Phone Shop..
News of the World (2020)
Walkabout
Every colour you want so long as its yellow or brown.
I swear if Tom Hanks read the phone book I'd listen. And this one is so much more than that.
Worzel Gummidge (2019)
Tuned to perfection
Well, he's done it again, the Saucy Nancy is just perfect. What a love letter to the countryside and folk music this is turning out to be.
