Transformers: Earthspark (2022)
Been waiting FOREVER for a Transformers show like this
Ever since this show was first announced, with the promise of a post-Decepticon/Autobot war and adopted Transformers into a human family I've been excited. None of the recent Transformers shows have clicked with me, but this one hooked me and stole my heart.
I'm grateful in the show the world is already well accustomed to Transformers, having worked with them in the past. We don't need another tired old "oh we gotta stay hidden from humans".
The new robots "Terrrans" Thrash and Twitch are delightful and are emotionally and spiritually connected to their new human siblings, Mo and Robby Malto-leading to some interesting scenarios. There is also sooo many hugs here, found family and lots of hugs. <3
Some of the action-scenes here are amazing, especially the one with Skywarp and Novastorm. The facial animation is a bit wonky at times but I don't blame the animators, 3d animation on a tv budget just tends to looks like that.
Nick Roche did many of the redesigns on the Transformers here-his Bumblebee and Soundwave are my favorite designs. The Bumblebee here is my hands-down favorite version of Bumblebee.
Please give this show a chance!
Transformers: BotBots (2022)
Silly fun, if not a bit mean-spirited
I'm happy to see a 2D-animated Transformers show again, its been a while. Botbots is a fun silly time, with good animation and expressive characters. Voice acting is also pretty top-notch, James Hartnett does a fantastic job portraying ego-centric Burgertron.
The character designs, although having to be different from their toy counterparts for ease of animation are all solid and memorable. Dimlit was a favorite of mine.
The only real gripe I have with the show is that despite being rated TV-Y7 Botbots is surprisingly mean-spirited. Within the first episode the main cast is shunned and made fun of for the rest of the season (up to the last episode!) by the other bots in the mall for a simple mistake. The Lost bots make it their goal to be accepted by those who have done nothing but talk bad about them and be overall horrible. It was just frustrating to watch happen in nearly every episode.
Still, overall, Botbots is a cute little show to watch in an afternoon or two.
