The Catch (2023)
Absolute Total Rubbish
Tried to give it Zero but couldn't.
This program is Unbelievably awful in every aspect.
The Script. The Acting. The Direction. The Realism. The Irish "Cornwall" setting.
Worse than poor.
I cannot believe that I sat through the episodes - I suppose it was sheer amusement to see how the end was played out.
I wasn't let down it was complete and utter tosh.
However much people were paid for this it was far too much. It was tantamount to legal embezzlement.
The adverts between are the best bits.
I am off to paint a wall and watch it dry...I suggest that you do the same, you'll feel better for it.
Eric Ravilious: Drawn to War (2022)
Lovely Film 8/10 with one horrendous flaw 0/10
Why on earth did the production team find it necessary to show the final moments of HMS Barham when it's ammunition magazines blew up after being hit by 3 torpedoes leading to it being sunk off the Egyptian coast November 1941 by the German submarine U-331 with the loss of 862 crewmen, approximately two thirds of her crew. Some of which can be seen on the stricken ship as it listed to port just before the explosion.
Thus had no bearing whatsoever to the artist nor his work.
I am appalled.
Last Night in Soho (2021)
Brilliant
Go see it is is fab.
Ignore the rest - this review is the best.
Spencer (2021)
Ponderous
Slow to the point of nearly stationary. So sad that it was felt necessary to drag this all up again. I felt that the incidental music detracted from the atmosphere of scenes.
The Green Knight (2021)
Tedious
Whilst the photography was superb the film itself was extraordinarily poor. The SFX department certainly earned their pay. However, the verbal reproduction was excruciating at times. The plot had little to do with the original story and our hero should've lost his head during the first hour let alone getting just a scratch. Not Fantasy. Not SciFi. Just pretentious Hollywood twaddle.
The Pact (2021)
Utter Twaddle
The single star is for the cast turning up
Sorry I cannot be more helpful to you - but it just isn't worth watching.
Darkest Hour (2017)
Britain at War
Stunning film. Stunning acting. Stunning atmosphere. Stunning cinematography. Britain at its stunning best. No country does War like we do.
Gisaengchung (2019)
Disappointed
After all the hype about this film and the number of awards I was very left feeling very disappointed with this film. Whilst it may have achieved what it set out to be. It seemed neither one thing nor the other. For the most part I found it completely predictable.
The Personal History of David Copperfield (2019)
Utter rubbish
Let's start with the good bits....visually superb. Everything else was just poor. Don't bother!
Queen & Slim (2019)
Ludicrous
There is little that I can praise this film for. A ridiculous plot. A string of completely unbelievable events. An overlong, boring, unrealistic travelogue of quasi-racism. It missed out on an opportunity to portray how police really treat (and kill) people.
1917 (2019)
Too much didn't ring true in this nice story
Well filmed and acted and the techies certainly did a good job. However there were far too many coincidences that led to our hero's survival that were to far fetched for me. He must've made a stop at the barbers as he was very well shaved. Whilst some of the horrors of WW1 were portrayed the soldiers were far too clean. The grass was too long for that time of year. His healed very quickly. They could've dropped a message by plane. Their ears would've been shattered in the underground explosion etc etc. They made a point of giving them grenades but they were not used, especially against the sniper. And just how did the sniper get his shots to go around corners. Etc etc A good effort of a film let down badly by many flaws.
The Souvenir (2019)
I've just painted a wall you could take a look at
I am sure that the film makers tried to portray the problems of an awful relationship.
Unfortunately they didn't try hard enough.
Some thoughts:
Ponderous
Unbelievable characters
Unbelievable plot
Unbelievable relationship realisation of true events
All the actors should've impro'd not just Julie.
Poor acting
No tension
Disjointed scenes
Seemed like a film student's first attempt to make a film
The dogs were great.
I see that there will be a Part 2 - I won't bother.
The Wife (2017)
Wooden Acting
I was very disappointed with this film. I expected more from these two respected actors. JP did what he always did - he played it as , er... Pryce. Same old same old I am afraid; the best bit was when he died.
Enigmatic looks from GC didn't really do it for me.
The plot was predictable (I hadn't read the book) and the scenes in the car and plane were very unrealistic.
Couldn't quite make out why the son wasn't older than he appeared.
The pregnant daughter and subsequent birth did not pull the couple together. So I found her role to be superfluous to the plot.
On the whole my enjoyment factor for this film was a poor 6 out of ten.
