Lego Friends: Girls on a Mission (2018)
Where is the lego?
Ok i get it's a tie in but they could've had at least one brick of lego somewhere in this shameful attempt to increase market share and sell more lego to girls. Take away the lego name and it's bland meaningless nothingness!
Zafari (2018)
Mind numbingly dull and preachy
I have a six and three year old and after watching a few episodes they cheer when I change the channel over to something else. It's pretty much the same every episode, incredibly boring and preachy, Sunday school for children except nowadays it's social politics rather than bible practice. Only gave two stars for the pretty animation otherwise stay well away unless you want to be preached to death!
Ying zi jun tuan (1984)
Yes its the Eighties and Yes its Ninjas!
The eighties was a time when Ninjas were at their powerhouse peak in Hollywood, everything martial arts related was Ninja themed, I cant believe I am moved to write a review about a film that is admittedly so bad, but that badness makes it great!! This film openly defies any sense of logic and physics, in fact the biggest martial arts trick these guys all have is the ability to speed up the camera, or press reverse on the camera leading to many hilarious moments that would have been outtakes on any other film but here they made the grade!! What is awesome here is what is on obviously a zero budget these guys had the courage to try to make a very adventurous film, there are lots of great ideas here that if they had even a decent camera this might have really worked as a film, I cant say to anyone go out and get this because the chance of you finding this is virtually zero, but it left a mark on me and my mate Nav's memory, seeing it back in the eighties we both remembered it for ages and luckily came across a DVD of it, there must be something about it that made us remember it even 20 years later!!!
Space Adventure Cobra (1982)
Interesting Piece of Early Eighties Anime.
I felt compelled to write a review for Space Cobra as it has received a good score of 7.3 stars but only a few of the reviews at the time of me writing this were particularly positive. A strange situation and hopefully my positive review will point people towards this old and mostly forgotten Anime movie. Space cobra is the funky tale of a smuggler and rogue who becomes involved with the three sisters of an ancient and dead planet and an evil force who wants to harness the planets powers. This is an old movie and the animation shows, but what it lacks in modern sophistication it makes up with an abundance of charm. Space Cobra is very much geared to a western audience and very easy to watch. There are few if any references to specific Japanese culture and great for Anime novices to watch and enjoy. Space Cobra himself is witty and likable. I cannot say how much of this is due to the English dub or the intentions of the maker, but this is one of the few Japanese comedy characters that I find truly funny. The style is very sixties Barbarellish with a fantastic soundtrack by Yello. The style is colourful and imaginative and there is constant action to move the story along. The strangest aspect of this movie is how it begins as a comedy and ends on a very downbeat dramatic note. I cannot think of another Anime or general movie that has been able to do this so seamlessly and convincingly. You barely realise that it is happening, but it is done so subtly and seems perfectly natural. You also really feel the characters went on a journey and they're lives were changed by the whole experience. Check out if you can.
