God's Gun (1976)

Great. yep, great.

Oh man, what a movie! Where's this hate coming from. It's cheaply done, but hey it was entertaining for what they had to work with. It's got the legendary ever-cool badass Lee Van Cleef... in TWO roles. Yes we were blessed. How can't you not love it?! As for Spagehitti westerns, it might not be a classic. However it has plenty of brutal violence, sleaze and a dirty look. Jack Palance really chews it up as the bad guy. The beautiful Sybil Danning looks great! The score and photography are familiar, but hey who cares when you got these stars on screen. Some things that happen in the story are rather stupid and lacks reasoning, but for me it delivered on the usual goods found in these type of films.

Jaguar Lives! (1979)

Wasted opportunity.

"Jaguar Lives" is very slow and plodding entertainment, despite a tip-top cast being associated. The action (well that's when it gets around to it) is too little and unexciting martial arts... because we have to wait through long dry spells of talk. The climax battle is the only thing worth waiting around for. Not helping is that the twists in the story are plain easy to pick up on and it doesn't make too much sense. Wow, just look at the names! The main reason I decided to give it a look. The likes of Christopher Lee, Donald Pleasence and Barbara Bach are simply wasted, and Joe Lewis is just too deadpan in the lead role. Fun this is not. No wonder why it's not too well known, as it's largely dismissible.

The Gauntlet (1977)

Bringing it home!

So, what we have here is an mildly entertaining action film that is simply brainless fluff. Because everything about it is so over-the-top that its just stupid and repetitive. I enjoy watching Clint Eastwood, but really... just give me Dirty Harry and I will watch that film again. Eastwood basically slums about in his role, but Sondra Locke gave a fun performance and spat out some hilarious dialogue. The staged action scenes are very shoddy, but still rather amusing because they are just outrageous. The way it plays about it seems like all of America is trying to stop the two from getting to their destination. Just who is on their side?

It's trashy with it's many faults, but still highly watchable. It's just like watching a car accident take place.

Awful!

A sequel? Now way, it's more like a remake. Surely, just watch the original again, as this sequel is basically more of the same, but done ineptly and without much interest.

Pretty much this one has tainted the very good original that starred Brandon Lee. His performance is what made "The Crow" and the look of it was powerful. None of the glowing factors from the original make their way into this production and so the original comes across like a masterpiece. Everything about it lacks bite and ferocity. The performances are far less memorable and the characters are basically the same ones we saw in the first. Where's the imagination gone? I just can't believe how derivative it was.

After seeing this one, I'm not all that curious into catching up with the following sequels.
