Wildhood (2021)
I was touched by this film
It was a very good effort. In a world full of cliche films this one stands out for its nuances and emotion. It deals with difficult subjects in a non-superficial way. It was a tad long but that doesnt seem to detract from the film significantly. Highly recommended for people who are tired of the same old.
Your Honor: Part Ten (2021)
Surprised by all the hate but I liked it
One thing I like in any drama is not being able to predict what is going to happen. It isnt the only thing but I hate it when I feel like I know where the work is going, ofte times I can even predict the next sentence. Not so with this show. I was surprised at every turn and especially the ending.
Aside from the unpredictability, I thought the acting was good as well as all the other parts which go into making a production.
I, like others, didnt realize that there wasnt going to be a season 2 so that catches me off guard as well. I was wondering where it could possibly go from here? The answer I guess is nowhere.
Perhaps all the people giving it one star are geniuses who knew what was coming but if not, then I question their taste and ability to judge. It wasnt Breaking Bad but it was competent, entertaining and surprising and compared to a lot of the drivel which gets produced, it exceeded.
Promising Young Woman (2020)
Exceptional
This film did what few films do: it broke the mould. I was surprised most of the way through the film. It could have so easily become cliche and it resisted. Well written, even better acting. It left me with a similar feeling that I had after watching Hard Candy except this had a lot more moving parts. All this from a first time director too.
Homeland: The English Teacher (2020)
Plot holes not withstanding, this was a great episode
As is mentioned elsewhere there are a few minor misses and odd things in this episode/season but it has lead up to such a great cliff hanger that I had to write a review. I have enjoyed the series the all way through but I feel that this episode especially has really done justice to the whole series. I cant wait to see how it gets resolved next week - hopefully there IS a next week.
Rick and Morty: One Crew over the Crewcoo's Morty (2019)
Marginally better than the first 2 episodes of season 4
I hate the fact that adult swim is padding the reviews for season 4 and that is why I give this episode a 1/10 (it probably deserves a 3).
Even the fake reviews by adult swim shills like "unkommon" are poorly written. Sign of the times I guess.
This episode had some plot but was again weak on character development.
Two years and this is what they come up with? I hope it improves but one of the other reviewer's called it when they said they have never seen a series take such a fast nose dive.
Totally disappointed that my favourite show has gone so completely off the rails.
Rick and Morty: The Old Man and the Seat (2019)
jericw16 is a moron and crownofsprats has it exactly right except he is being too generous
This episode sucked. A terrible plot and none of the cleverness I have come to expect from RnM. After a pretty lame S04E01, I was hoping that episode 2 would be better but its gone off the rails. It was so boring with a really stupid premise and corny sensationalism.
I also noticed that the first reviews are all glowing 9 and 10 out of 10s by people who never review anything. This is a clear sign that adult swim knows it has produced crap and has to pad its reviews just to keep the ratings up.
If we get lucky the old brilliance may return but I will be telling all my friend fans that the series seems to have really lost its way and decided to settle for mediocrity.
Catch-22 (2019)
What utter crap
How to spoil a great book and a good movie. This travesty of a series does not do any justice to the book. It just isnt funny at all. A great cast wasted on a terrible adaptation. Many of the other reviews are obviously just network shills who have no love for comedy and no respect for the masterpiece that is Catch 22.
Final Space (2018)
I tried and it failed - yawn fest
I really tried to like FS (I watched 6 episodes and restarted a bunch of times) but I found it just impossible. Gore, lame catch phrases and euphemisms do nothing for me. Basically the writing sucks and therefore I couldnt care less about the characters.
I also hate the padding in the other reviews. How do I know they are padding? Well, most of the 10/10 reviews are from "people" who have only ever reviewed this one show. So you need to ask yourself: what is the likelihood that so many review only this one show and find it the best thing they've ever seen. Basically they are hired by whoever has a vested interest in the show to help it garner higher ratings so that people will watch it. IMDB allows this and it makes them complicit (something I have been saying for years).
Dont waste your time.
Funeral Kings (2012)
fresh and well written, in a word: excellent
I rarely write film reviews but this one really deserved a positive review.
I love originality and this film is truly original. It has a fresh feel and it is well written. I had no idea that some of the actors weren't professional. Perhaps that is what gives this film its edge.
I don't think I can do it much more justice than reviewer "larry-411" did. He really nailed it.
All I can say is watch it, you wont regret it.
I must add more lines according to IMDb requirements, so let me say this: Always look at the last reviews of a film. IMDb often hides bad reviews at the end. I think they are getting kickbacks to put good studio written reviews up front to get people to watch their films. I have seen this more times than not. So don't be fooled.
We Were Soldiers (2002)
Terrible film but nice to see that the IMDb can still be bought
Does anyone else ever wonder why the worst movies have all their 10 star comments at the beginning of the list? I wonder how much the film companies have to pay to the IMDb to keep it this way? Ever notice how many of the 10 star comments are usually the only comment by that person? The scenario: One guy watches one really terrible film, thinks its the greatest thing he has ever seen and then never writes another comment in their life. Sound fishy? Or how about the guy who only seems to give 10 stars to the worst movies? Never bothers to rate anything other than new bad films and never gives them anything less than 10?! Its pretty laughable. I am really glad I don't know any of those people. It is pretty sad that the IMDb can be bought in this way and does nothing to police itself. But I guess that's show biz.
And as far as the Mel Gibson fascist film industry goes, I'd rather watch anything by Mel Brooks than the best of Mel Gibson. Maybe when Obama shows that the US still has some balls, will racists like Mel Gibson have to learn that we see though his Christian veneer to the ugly hatemonger he really is.
The Pink Panther (2006)
Unspeakably bad and I am suspicious of the very +ve comments
I have been a fan of the IMDb for some time but have never posted. After reading the other user comments about this film, I had to react. The original Pink Panther was so very funny and well done that it bears rewatching many times over. It had something to do with Peter Sellers and the magic he could conjure.
When I first heard about a remake I was apprehensive but now, having seen it, I am appalled. This movie is TERRIBLE. But what makes me wonder is how so many people could have found it so good?! It makes me think that perhaps the IMDb is being used to try to get people to go out and watch this film under false pretenses. If this is the case then it brings the authenticity of the whole IMDb into question. Perhaps I should assume this from the git go but I have yet to see any evidence of it. But the glowing recommendations given this film have given me occasion to rethink my admiration for this site.
