Tempted (2001)
The Saturn Bar, NOLA
Saw this film, by chance, one lazy Saturday afternoon, while just "couch-potatoing/channel surfing"...glad I was...
Being from The Big EZ, it peaked my interest, not to mention the very colorful array of characters! Now... here's the thing: There was a scene in this movie, where Lily & Mulate meet up at a bar, called "The Saturn Bar"; I happen to know exactly where this bar is located within the 7th Ward of New Orleans.
What I want to know is if that scene was actually filmed at that location, or was it simply a shot from the outside and filmed another location? Does anyone know? Just curious.
Aside from that, I think I'll purchase the DVD to add to my New Orleans Colllection of videos. Really steamy and intriguing..

OH.. & P.S.: It held my attention, surprisingly, all the way to the end! It was Good.
Secretary (2002)
Summing up "The Neurotic WASP" Spader
I once saw a phrase, in a major N.Y. periodical describing James Spader as being "The Neurotic WASP" in terms of the types of roles he tended to play. The phrase intrigued me. The way he speaks with his lips barely moving, but with an explicitness that cannot be denied or missed. His biting humor from the character he plays in "Boston Proper", keeps me a constant viewer.
As total racially and sexually opposite as I am from him, I find him incredibly fascinating with a dark sexual presence - this was my point of view when I first saw him in "Pretty in Pink" and "Less than Zero". Talk about disturbing! "The Secretary" was also one of his that put me off balance. But I love for films to do that to me.
"Storeyville" was also a favorite of mine, especially since I am from New Orleans. Even when he played that wide-eyed intellectual in "Stargate", I found him just as appealing and vulnerable, a word I generally do no associate with Spader.
