The Whale (2022)
Good but
A wonderful return for Brendan Fraser and an amazing performance, if you a fan of him you won't regret watching this. However his daughter Ellie, is almost more annoying than she was in Stranger Things, almost ruined the film for me but not quite. This was due to the sensitivity shown in characters and vulnerability of each character. If anything this film highlights the mental issues between food and brain and how people perceive image and a worth of a person. Some slow bits as per in most movies these days always obvious when you start picking up your phone and become distracted. I felt the end was a bit Hollywood, which was a shame but yes a one watch, pretty good but not amazing.
Spencer (2021)
This is not good
Don't get me wrong, I do love a good portrayal and I like many others still have a fascination for Diana and her whole story. This film however makes me feel a bit disappointed because it only seemed to focus on her saddest moments. Kirsten's portrayal wasn't the best, felt she was a bit karaoke. The soundtrack was totally over the top, going from odd jazz to all out ear splitting strings.
It was hard to watch, and I almost gave up because nothing really comes across in a meaningful way, and feels very uggggggggh
I guess the film does show Diana's isolation even though she is constantly with people/staff/family so maybe that's something but I would rather not see this again anytime soon.
The Father (2020)
Eye opener
This was touching, worrying, beautiful, upsetting and will stay with me for a while. Anthony Hopkins is truly a fantastic actor. Hard to watch sometimes because it brings on worries of a possible future for my own father but nevertheless an original thought provoking film.
No Time to Die (2021)
And I thought Solace was bad
This was an ultimate bore fest and very tacky obvious cgi effects. Pretty poor bond, they need to just park it now. As usual too much dialogue and not enough story. Why are they making these movies touchy-feely, it's Bond or that's what it used to be. Very poor.
Poltergeist (1982)
The best
This is my most watched movie ever. I love this for it's perfect 80s vibe and pure imagination of Spielberg and Hooper. It's perfection beyond movie making.
Mother! (2017)
Compelling
I've watched this a few times now and it's like a nightmare that you can't help revisiting, strangely addictive and wonderful grim. I love it and I'm not sure why.
Old (2021)
Yeah pretty good
Much much better than the last few movies of his. This one had a real sinister vibe and made you keep watching. Reminiscent of something older, ignore the rubbish reviews and make up your own mind. Fresher than the so called horror/thrillers of late.
Arctic (2018)
No words needed
I love Mads anyway but the fact he hardly uttered a word along with his co-star was utterly brilliant. This movie kept me on the edge of my seat and did not disappoint. Amazing.
Druk (2020)
Best all year
This is a must watch! I didn't expect as much as I got from this film. It's incredibly funny, sad and thought provoking and so naturally acted I already want to see this again. If you are expecting a film about a few blokes just getting hammered drunk (and they do) it's much more than that.
Being the Ricardos (2021)
Too much talk not enough
Story... oh my gawd what a drag. Could have been so interesting. Literally had to drag myself through it, the only saving grace was the fabulous sets and costumes, era etc. Seriously 2 hours 11 mins of not much of anything.
What We Do in the Shadows (2019)
First two minutes
I could tell the kind of audience that this would appeal to. Obvious comedy which is so lame I couldn't even raise a chuckle. I love Matt Berry but this is not up to his usual standards.
Them (2021)
Wow
Best show I've watched in a long time. So refreshing that pure talent is not dead. This is a rare piece that shouldn't be ignored. As a Stephen King fan I feel this definitely has undertones but in a very good way.
Fatal Trust (2006)
Cosy TV movie
So I think this loosely based on a well known English serial killer but for a TV movie it's not half bad. One of those satisfying stay at home sick day watches. Not too much cheese but just enough cosy to handle.
The Mist (2007)
Human zoo
I love this, even in a desperate situation do people show their worst behaviour and show the following mentality that ultimately leads to destruction. Not to mention the beginnings of the walking dead.
What Lies Below (2020)
Not as bad as the ratings
Actually very watchable and keeps you watching which lately for new low budget movies is pretty rare. I liked this, however the ending could have been better.
Host (2020)
Yeah annoying
So this reminded me how annoying zoom calls were. The movie was full of irritating things that I'd rather forget about 2020. The ending was like what? I'd say don't bother.
It Chapter Two (2019)
Nope
So boring I couldn't finish it. So disappointed with this and waited so long. Cgi is not the answer!!!!
Nine Perfect Strangers (2021)
So Amy amazing
I love all these actors but even more this series brings together the best and what a treat this is.
Minor Premise (2020)
Dull
I can't understand the amazing reviews on this. I couldn't even finish this film. The plot was weak, horrible acting. It was as if we watching someone who was so bored by lockdown that they were trying anything to get through but for us the viewers it was irritating and boring.
Looker (1981)
My most watched movie
This is still so current, Crichton was a visionary. I love this so much but it is crying out for a remake BUT I doubt anyone would do it justice.
Runaway (1984)
Crichton rules
Loved this as a child and still love it now. The steel spiders are terrifying still. Crichton was way ahead of his time, even if some of the robots/effects are dated.
The Taking (2014)
Exorcist meets blair witch but meh
So the premise was very interesting and it made an excellent start but as predicted it went completely mental, which is a shame. When you start picking up your phone halfway through you know it's not a winner.
Kindred (2020)
Stiflingly suspenseful
I loved this, not since Rosemarys baby have I enjoyed such a teaser. Is she ill or are they crazy. Not many liked the ending but I like the fact it leaves you to make up your own mind.
Panic (2021)
Could have been good
I stuck with this as I believed it could get better but sadly it didn't. The show has a good idea but was ruined by a bad script, horrific monologues and truly terrible cgi.
Nip/Tuck (2003)
Perfect
I love this show so much, it's a re watch and a re watch. They don't make them like this since Dallas.
