Ghost in the Shell (2017)
Movie released early in my country so...
Ghost in the Shell was I thought going to disappoint me. It didn't. In fact it improved on the vague points of the original making it tight but stayed true to the spirit of the anime. Action is fast paced, characters were well acted out and all the subtle nuances were there. my complaints: they changed the beer and there are no tachikomas. do i recommend it? hells yes
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (2016)
Awesome expansion from the book!
I'm a big fan of the original Pride and Prejudice novel as well as the 1995 series and the 2005 movie. My husband bought me the Pride and Prejudice and Zombies book and I can't say the book was thoroughly enjoyable. So I wasn't expecting too much from the movie, but I was really blown away by how much and how well they expanded from the source material. This is one of the very few instances where I can say the movie is worlds better than the book. Wickham is a proper villain, the zombies are better placed as an integral part of the story instead of just a silly backdrop, the fight scenes are awesome, the zombie war more plausible if you will, and thank goodness they did away with a lot of the silliness like Wickham's weak sphincter muscles and the cauliflower heads (readers of the book will know). I also love the fact that they gave so many nods to all previous multimedia adaptations, from the original Jane Austen book, to PPZ, and even to the 1995 series and 2005 movie!
With that said, the movie is far from perfect. It has editing flaws especially when one character is speaking yet the camera is not on them. There were also too many useless characters IMHO (I actually think they should have killed off some of the Bennet sisters) and a few plot holes but it can be overlooked.
Over all, it's a very entertaining movie. For an unbiased opinion, it would have to come from my poor husband, who went with me solely to watch The Eleventh Doctor...I mean Matt Smith. He enjoyed the movie too, surprisingly.
I suggest everyone give it a try before passing it off.
The Riverman (2004)
A frightening look into the mind of a monster...
I've seen a couple of Ted Bundy movies and they were more of a slasher horror fest based on real events. Although The Riverman is also based on real events, and in particular the book authored by Robert "Bob" Keppel (played by Bruce Greenwood in the movie), this made-for-TV movie to me felt a lot creepier than the other two Bundy films I had mentioned.
Now before you go running off to the DVD store, you have to know that this is no slasher flick. This movie is scary for its psychological insights into the mind of a monster, particularly that of Ted Bundy. What's even scarier is how well Cary Elwes plays the role of Bundy, from his gestures, his voice, and most especially his eyes. It is perhaps one, or could be Elwes's best performance yet, albeit not quite recognized.
Though a made for TV movie, it felt more like a silver screen feature. The acting never feels forced, the pacing satisfactory, and the script very intense especially towards the film's conclusion. There may be an amateurish feel towards the cinematography, but over all, a very good, chilling film.
