The Last Kumite (2024)
A decent action film worth watching
A decent action film with better than expected production values with a good ensemble cast with martial arts film stars from the 80s, including a promising new face and formidable martial artist, David Kurzhal (AKA Viking Samurai) in his debut film. In my opinion he would have been better cast in the lead role as he has a stronger physical and screen presence than the lead protagonist, although the lead actor did a decent job. Looking forward to David's upcoming films in production, in which hopefully he will be given a more prominent role with more screen time. The film is an homage to the 80s action films and recreates this genre well. The fight scenes are well choreographed and filmed, the film is well paced and the character development is well done. The filming locations are exotic and picturesque and unlike most films with a limited budget, this film is good enough to merit a theatrical release.
You Were Never Really Here (2017)
The driver without the Taxi
Joaquin Phoenix is a powerful disturbing presence, and his character in this film in many ways resembles that of Robert De Niro's Taxi Driver, frightening, unpredictable, but with a noble cause bent on bloody justice. This is a film filled with artistic surreal detail, savage reality and centered on a complex and tortured character. Through the darkness, the end is finally life affirming. Quite riveting.
Gemini Man (2019)
An engrossing sci-fi action film
A very well paced action sci-fi thriller. Remarkable special effects, excellent acting, incredible action sequences, beautiful locations, not to mention the beautiful Mary Elizabeth Winstead and a very thought provoking plot. Well worth the watch.
Final Kill (2020)
An unexpected Gem
Surprisingly good film. Excellent character development and dialogue, wonderful acting, and a wonderful blend of humor, drama and action. An intelligent, funny, and at time poignant film that is so much more than how the film is presented.
Illuminate (2020)
Surprisingly good
For an indie film on a budget, this film was surprisingly good. Very well directed, very meticulously and artistically shot, and actually very successful as a horror/sci-fi film. The young actors do a very good and the director of this film has a lot of potential and talent.
