Man Hunt (1941)

A Fox & Hound tale for World War Two Buffs.
10 January 2010
This movie played on Turner Classic Movies recently. I grabbed my attention and kept me fixed to the television to the very end. It has everything you could ask for, in a movie of that era; a noble good guy, evil bad guys and a pretty girl.

A suspenseful game of cat & mouse played out across Europe on the eve of World War II.

It is interesting to compare this movie with 49th Parallel, also released in 1941, except the protagonists are the crew of a German U-Boat, sunk off the coast of Canada, trying to evade capture and sneak into the, (then neutral), United States.

Interesting Film If You Like Vintage Airplanes
28 December 2007
Warning: Spoilers
A fairly straight forward storyline. Not totally predictable nor over-simplified. The sex scenes, (did I say sex?) are tame by today's standards but are remarkable considering the era. That "Central Airport" got past Hays commission with a story line suggesting an unmarried man and woman would spend the night together in the same room and not in the coy way of Frank Capra's "It Happened One Night". This is a good movie if you are a fan of vintage aircraft, especially Ford Tri-Motors. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but that airport terminal building used in the Havana scenes looks like the old Grand Central Air Terminal that was located in Glendale.

Quality is an art not a budget.

This movie is a great example of why so many people are watching independent, "Indie", movies now. The absence of large amounts of capital requires the artists, (producers, directors, writers and actors) to become more creative.

The story is original and the dialog is realistic. It passes my "Believability Test" for action/drama movies. (Do you believe this could happen, in this way?)

Leon Coffee is a surprisingly good actor. If he ever tires of dodging bulls, (he is a professional rodeo clown) Hollywood could certainly use his talent.

Many of the extras in this film were cowboy "re-enactors" from around Texas. They provided a bit of extra authenticity to the film.
