To bad hollywood does not make great movies like this anymore.
28 May 2023
Another great Gregory Peck movie with a host of other hollywood greats. To bad hollywood does not make great movies like this anymore. Fantastic scenery & photography. Outstanding acting, though nothing less would you find from Peck & crew. Much better acting than most of the actor wannabes that find their way onto the screen today. Brief synopsis: Peck, as sheriff, unintentionally stumbles into information/map about a lost gold formation while searching for the the criminal played by Sharif. Lots of action as the five opposing & allied groups interact, and one changes sides, are the sheriff, Sharif's gang, the indians, the Calvary, and some local yokels with gold fever. No CGI (Cartoon Grade Imagery!) makes the movie better. The only downside was the silly/bad turkey vulture song at the beginning! Enjoy!

Do not waste 85 minutes of your life that you will waste by watching this 'dead on arrival' and not get back.
8 May 2023
Laughably bad acting, photography, and editing. This movie even makes viewing the nude female form boring. The nurse, unhappy with being a female, tries to compensate for being the weaker sex by killing off men she entices to have sex with her. In a rebuke of biology, she offers the men a '2nd chance' but only after the normal overpowering male mating drive has kicked in and blocked all conscience thought. If you turn off the volume and fast forward though the non-nude scenes you might find a 3 star worth. Do not waste 85 minutes of your life that you will waste by watching this 'dead on arrival' and not get back.

Save yourself 89 minutes of your life that you can not get back and pass on this one.
24 April 2023
I rarely give ratings this low but this one possibly deserves a 0 stars. Absolutely nothing worth remembering or re-watching. Brief synopsis: The main actress, 'Christina', has been separated from her family since an early age. She goes 'home' for the reading of her father's will, gets strange stories from the villagers as they tell her the house is abandoned & has been for years, and finds all of her family is strange/weird/sick. She has nightmares of events, usually erotic (sic). She is a hottie but her acting makes the nude scenes seem dull/boring. She eventually dies and becomes a member of the living dead family. No redeeming quality. Save yourself 89 minutes of your life that you can not get back and pass on this one.

Mildly entertaining movie about Egyptian mummies.
16 April 2023
Mildly entertaining movie about Egyptian mummies. Yes, it is 'another' mummy movie, similar in some regards as other early mummy movies and with some different twists. As in real life situations the characters responded differently based on their personalities/idiosyncrasies. This was about actors who had to actually act, to project drama, fear, evil, rather than just using a new CGI software update to shock & awe the easily influenced. The locations, set deck, and special effects guys had to have talent, creativity, and imitation rather than just using CGI. The arab gypsy with her crystal ball was an interesting addition. Also a plus, no vulgarity, skin, or gore. Enjoy!

A really good movie from a different time.
12 February 2023
A really good movie from a different time. It promoted accepting a certain level of risk, delving into the unknown, being honorable & ethical, and left the viewer with a good feeling. Yes, the special effects guys had to actually be creative and not just buy the latest CGI (Cartoon Grade Imagery) package. Think about the lack of violence, gore, vulgarity, skin, and sexual intercourse. Doesn't it just feel good that they can make movie without it?!? Yes, the female lead's short skirt & great gams were probably risque in 1953. Brief synopsis: Jupiter's moon Fornax, 'uninhabitable', shoots a crystal rocket at earth. Rocky & crew spring into action to save the earth. Mistrust, dishonesty, & betrayal feed the drama but 'good will out' in the end and mutual interplanetary trade results. Enjoy with the family!

An outstanding super swashbuckling pirate film about the real pirate activities of the Caribbean of the era!
3 July 2022
An outstanding super swashbuckling pirate film about the real pirate activities of the Caribbean of the era, staring great hollywood stars on their way to super stardom: Tyrone Power & Maureen O'Hara. Power was a pirate captain who saw the writing on the wall & joined the 'government' in an attempt to make safe the seas around the Caribbean. As now, many in the 'government' then were corrupt & had self-interest as their primary motivation & this made sweeping the seas of the pirates more challenging. The beautiful& talented O'Hara, fiancée of one of the corrupt government officials, becomes Power's love interest & the courtship is on... High action, personal intrigue, betrayal, keep the movie flowing & interesting. Note: This was, I believe, Power's last film before enlisting in the Marine Corps near the beginning of WWII. Power, in the movie & in real life was a real man's man! Too bad hollywood does not have actors of his character anymore...

Time well spent watching.
26 June 2022
A very well done/excellent movie in many regards, entertaining, and time well spent watching. Good imagination & creativity in the plot and making the movie. This is a real movie, not just CGI and software. Sets had to be build by creative thinking men, special effects were likewise overcome by imagination put to life not just programed into a software package. This is an excellent move made in a time hollywood tried to make good movies, not just pin ball speed violent action supported by green screen CGI. And it follows a scheme that most people today, especially today, could learn: When you turn power over to the government, you become a mindless slave to that government! York & Jorden are very good in their rolls. Fawcett is her normal gorgeous, well that says about all that can be said about her. I do not know how they got the PG rating. Agutter is completely nude in one scene & there are several other naked women frozen in another scene. Enjoy!

An enjoyable use of time well spent to view.
26 June 2022
An excellent movie in many regards, and an enjoyable use of time spent to view. Price is his normal outstanding and could give acting & voice classes to most of hollywood's 'actors'. Photography was excellent. The colors blend with the action/motions, not like the stark digital films of today. Good creativity with the plot, based on Edger Allen Poe's work how could it not be, even if some of it has also been seen in 20,000 leagues & Creature from the Black Lagoon. Brief synopsis: A 'Lost City of Atlantis' like subsea city, where people do not age if they remain, is endangered by a nearby active volcano. The subhuman creatures, like gill-men, are afraid & angry. Price must find out how to save his city or be destroyed by the gill-men or the volcano. Subplot: Price sees Hart, who is the identical image of his long lost love. Price has the gill-men kidnap Hart for himself and Hunter comes charging to the rescue. Enjoy!

Save yourself 103 minutes of your life that your can not get back and pass on this one...
7 June 2022
Just a really poor remake, in all regards, of a decent, not great, original movie. Acting was poor, stale, mechanical. Please take some acting classes. Photography was, well, it was more like something I take with my cell phone. Too many unconnected dots, scenes out of order (i.e. One of the four 'conspirators' was pulled out of the returning rowboat by a wraith even before the 'Elizabeth Dane' sank), people 'magically' acquired clairvoyant insight (The beach derelict/bum, Elizabeth, etc.), heavy, metal objects (i.e. Silver artifacts for the Dane sinking) impossibly travel miles through deep water to 'wash up' on the bleach, the endless, mind numbing, attempts at 'horror & shock' that come at pinball speed, racial stereotyping (the black guy plays a shallow/stupid, inarticulate/poorly spoken, dishonest, irresponsible, guy only interested in having intercourse with white women), and more of hollywood's endless attacks on those farsighted & brave men that founded this country and made it great. The least that the flick could have offered was continuous gratuitous full nudity of the two female leads and the two girls on the boat for those that suffered through the movie. Save yourself 103 minutes of your life that your can not get back and pass on this one...

I saw 'Afghanistan War' & ordered it. Mistake!
3 March 2022
I saw 'Afghanistan War' & ordered it. Mistake! It is another hollywood anti-war movie pushing political agenda. The lead-in teaser calls it 'a hopelessly confused conflict', which it was not. The only ones confused were the anti-military, un-American politicians & demographic groups, who gave the laser focused American Warriors ROE that made the mission & staying alive difficult. Plot synopsis: A middle-aged woman made every poor choice in her life, finds herself with no husband, no children (No family), and is unhappy in her present circumstances. She rolls the dice to grasp any straw and goes where no normal woman would ever want to go, to a war zone. She is out of place, knows nothing about anything, makes mistakes that gets good Marines hurt & killed. She is (Unrealistically) given permission to go on a mission, gets her 'big story' and, though still having nothing tangible in life, gets on 'prime time'. So as to give hollywood a 'feel good' ending. Do not waste 111 minutes of your life that yo will not get back and let this pass...

A really good 'Bruce Willis' 'Die Hard' sequel.
3 March 2022
A really good 'Bruce Willis' 'Die Hard' sequel. Willis/McClane, erroneously, believes his now adult, & estranged, son is in trouble in Russia and needs his help. So Willis mounts his trusty steed (an airplane in this case!) and takes off to take on the Russian mafia, law enforcement, and goes to war with his on son for a while. Opening scenes vehicle cases/crashes do justice to Schwarzenegger, Smokey & the Bandit, and James Bond. Lots of shootouts with all the normal infinite ammo cheats (Does everyone not carry around hundreds of pounds of ammo?), betrayal, and the miscues that make use love the all too human Willis/McClane portrays?!? It is entertaining if you like this genre.

God awful acting!
3 March 2022
God awful acting & how does this movie make the PG rating?!? Reynolds is the only one showing any 'acting' ability but his demeanor and persona belong in a Smokey & the Bandit type casting. Welch has only three acting 'talents'. Two are prominently mounted on her chest and being a sexpot is all she offers the viewing audience. Though 'sex' does sell and she does that well in all her flicks. Brown, stiff, stale, and mechanical, does not bring any acting abilities to this movie. ~ PG?!? Reynold's play-toy at the beginning of the movie clearly shows all of her derriere (And it is nice!), twice, and her breasts/nipples three times. At the water tank Welch's nipples are clearly outlined. ~ Yaquis were barely stone age pagan Indians hated & feared by the Mexicans, Americans, and other Indian tribes (Mostly the Apaches) for their barbarism. That they could master machine guns, artillery pieces, and even, to a lesser extent, rifles is preposterous. Some minor humor but mostly disjointed attempts to make an unrealistic Western.

An outstanding movie made in a time hollywood tried to make quality entertainment!
16 December 2021
An outstanding movie made in a time hollywood tried to make quality entertainment. Yes, it is a silent movie so it requires more attentiveness & insight than talkies that spoon feed the viewers, including music & noises about the mood of the scene. Actors had to act, over act/over dramatize to project understanding with actions/body language & facial expressions in order to compensate for the lack of sound. Look at the great set decorations, made by creative men, not a CGI software program, the real special effects, and the athletic ability of Fairbanks as he does most of his own stunts. He is no lightweight like todays actors. Brief synopsis: Fairbanks/D'Artagnan leaves home to follow his lifelong dream of joining the Musketeers and fights the evil Cardinal Richelieu to save the Queen's honor. Lots of real action along the way. This movie more closely follows the classical literature version. Enjoy!

A really great movie made in a time when the movie industry tried to make great movies.
4 September 2021
A really great movie made in a time when the movie industry tried to make great movies, not the visceral garbage that they produce today. The actors & film aspire to lift up people to be more honorable, honest people who try to reach up to be of good character, not get sucked down into the swill of selfishness & self-centeredness. Brief synopsis: There are many twists and turns to keep your attention... The king of France had twin boys, one to rule France. To avoid future turmoil the second twin was to be killed but was secreted away to live, not knowing his heritage. Plots inside of plots the second twin displaces the first as ruler. The swashbuckling Fairbanks, as D'Artagnan, leads the other three Musketeers with devotion to duty at all costs in a struggle to overcome evil & return the rightful king to the throne. Enjoy!

Enjoy and hour and a half of great acting, a great movie, and NO course talk, vulgarity, gore, or political correctness.
2 August 2021
An outstanding movie made in a time when the film industry wanted to make great movies, not the visceral garbage that they produce today... It is a based on fact movie about a time of turmoil on the European continent and this movie is primarily focused on France. The socialist anarchists were murdering, by guillotine, the intellectuals and leaders in a power grab for the liberal elitists, who wound up being much worse that those that they deposed. Secondary in the movie is the reactions of the English, who are appalled by the senseless murders but who are not in a position to do much more than make political statements & offer prayers. A secret, small group of Englishmen, under the leadership of the Scarlet Pimpernel, takes direct action and rescues as many of the condemned French hierarchy as possible. A subplot is that The Scarlet Pimpernel's wife turned in a high ranking French family & this caused an estrangement in the marriage of the two leading actors. Though maybe slow by the nonstop, pinball speed action movies of today, this movie has actors that can act and talk to project the sense of the movie. Enjoy and hour and a half of great acting, a great movie, and NO course talk, vulgarity, gore, or political correctness.

Yes, there was some entertaining parts but they were outweighed by the mind control propaganda throughout.
21 July 2021
Really shallow un-American, anti-military, & anti-technology hate propaganda only thinly veiled behind a 'comedy' flick. Unfortunately the simpleminded in America watch something like this and believe it. I am disappointed that hollywood greats like Scott, Hayden, & Pickens would play in this piece of garbage. One truly funny part was when the movie showed the B-52's silhouette on the ground it was a B-17 silhouette. Yes, there was some entertaining parts but they were outweighed by the mind control propaganda throughout.

An entertaining 'zombie' flick (Even though the young nerd tries to say that they are not true 'zombies'), but still another zombie flick.
17 July 2021
An entertaining 'zombie' flick (Even though the young nerd tries to say that they are not true 'zombies'), but still another zombie flick. They all have different twists and the different twists in this one are: It is kept localized to one city by the military and a large wall (Think Escape from New York); It started from an accidental release of a biological virus (Think Wuhan, China, bioweapons lab and the Chinese flu we are currently facing); Though the setting is in SE Asia (Again, think Wuhan, China) the city & characters more resemble New York. The robots were a nice twist & I especially liked the dog robot. Brief synopsis: Dolph & his team are sent into the zombie city to rescue a CEO's daughter (Again, think Kurt Russell in Escape from New York) but bad intel costs the lives of his team. There is the usual drama developed between the different personalities of the group of survivors hold up in a palace like compound & how they conflict with Dolph's mission. Dolph does a good job in his role but the others, for the better part, flop. I did not care for hollywood's continued anarchist portrayal of big business and the CEO. Everyone had the usual infinite ammo cheat & fired a couple of hundred pounds of ammo apiece. Too much shaky camera, too much unnecessary vulgarity, and too much dark work, but still worth watching .

Just a fantastic war movie.
9 July 2021
Just a fantastic war movie. With legendary Clark Gable & Burt Lancaster how could it not be so. Gable plays an outstanding submarine skipper who develops his crew into more than they were before he took over so they could accomplish what was necessary to help win WWII. The above 'Details' used divisive and false descriptions of 'overzealous' & 'revenge'. Whoever wrote those words knows nothing of the military, or war, and would have had us lose WWII. Military units are not made up of mindless puppets who blindly obey. They are made up of men, with different beliefs & understandings, who have to be welded into a viable weapon with good leadership, like Gable portrays. Lancaster, the XO, does find himself at odds with the skipper and respectfully addresses his concerns. A good leader at least listens to his staff but ultimately he is in command. Gable's character accomplishes the almost impossible through his leadership. The 'silent service' did suffer the highest KIA rate of any service in WWII, 40% if memory serves me correctly. Enjoy!

As good as it gets in the movie industry, what else can you say?!? Great everything, photography, scenery, special effects, acting, and selling people as human, not supermen, flawed humans struggling to make a positive impact even as they have to overcome their own mistakes. No CGI, no unnecessary gore or vulgarity. Everything was real world. Loved it! Hope you do too.

A visceral, mildly entertaining flick about 'I want world peace'.
24 June 2021
A visceral, mildly entertaining flick about 'I want world peace' (Or in this case galactic peace). This flick is a takeoff of several other movies in costumes & plot. They must have emptied the costumes from the hollywood warehouses. The Scarrans are a mix of The Terminator's alien, Uruk-Hai Orcs from the Hobbit movies, and the general costumes from Star Wars. The Peacekeepers are the Jedi from Star Wars but they have lost their way/focus and become dark without the Eidolons to give them direction. A lot of pagan eastern mysticism directs the plot. They do use a real life event with the umbrella poison dart. Israeli operatives killed an American oilfield pipeline designer with this exact method & in a similar setting in Europe when they mistook his purpose. I wonder if hollywood evens knows this. Way too much crude sexual innuendo & to much thinly veiled vulgarity, frell is the 'F' word, etc. Except for this the movie would be for the adolescence male demographic group. I would not recommend anyone waste over three hours watching this.

It was mildly entertaining, even with the drawbacks, but not worth the time investment...
19 June 2021
Not a bad plot but it could have been developed better. A lot of dark scene shaky camera shots that, unfortunately, seem to be the hollywood trend these days. Continuity could have been much better. The creatures, that seemed to be orcs from The Hobbit books with stegosaurus spikes down their backs, origin was never established other than a non-plausible speculation about them being 'mutated' from the passengers. Quaid turns in a decent performance but that is not enough to carry the flick. There were no redeeming qualities to be found. Continuous, unnecessary vulgarity was a drawback. Can we find any civility in films anymore? It was mildly entertaining, even with the drawbacks, but not worth the time investment...

If al qaeda or ISIS were to make a recruiting video for jihadists to hate and kill Americans this is it.
11 June 2021
If al qaeda or ISIS were to make a recruiting video for jihadists to hate and kill Americans this is it. Kristen Stewart plays a bimbo female who does everything wrong and yet the pseudo-intellectuals that wrote and produced this movie try to sell as a good person. She breaks numerous rules in conduct with the 'detainees' and that is supposedly OK and yet she writes up a fellow soldier who tells her to do what any 'soldier' there is supposed to do. (feminists want to be treated as equal UNTIL THEY decide that they don't want to be treated as equal) She falls in love with a terrorist who threw his own excrement on her. Yeah, that's a domestic violence relationship hollywood sells as OK. Remember, all the 'detainees' at GITMO were the worst of the worst of muslim killers. They were all terrorists, the worst of the worst, before they got to GITMO and every documented case of the released detainees shows that they went back to terrorist organizations. This is a typical liberal hollywood movie denigrating America. This movie certainly brought about the deaths and injury of our brave American servicemen defending America from all enemies, both foreign and domestic.

This is a great movie made in a time when the movie industry wanted & tried to make great movies, none the crude, visceral garbage that seems to dominate today's films. This based on history film combines great acting (See facial expressions & listen to the delivery), scenery, musical score, photography, and direction to keep this moving & focused. There is everything good in the movie, drama, differences in personality idiosyncrasies, romance, overcoming failures & continuing to strive for successes, and strong characters... Very family friendly without a flood of vulgarity, skin, and gore. Be entertained and enjoy!

Mildly entertaining at best but poorly done in all venues.
9 June 2021
Mildly entertaining at best but poorly done in all venues, is laughable instead of being a sci-fi drama. I do not know how it was originally written but the outcome is abysmal due to bad acting, bad direction, lousy photography & editing, terrible CGI/Green Screen outcome, etc. Brief Synopsis: Another post apocalyptic flick where society is plunged into pagan gangs (The 'leaders' were called warlords in this movie) who live with brutality & without any form of justice, just 'might makes right'. In a battle to defeat one of the opposing but wealthy warlords some of the victorious fighters steal some of the losers silver and abscond. The pursuit is on for the thieves, which happen to be this movie's heroes. Some of the warlord's witches are leading the pursuit but eventually fall in with the thieves. The CGI monster is laughable and indestructible until they learn it's Achilles heal, silver (It kills werewolves right!). They eventually kill several of the beasts and make it to safety beyond the forbidden land but leave many monsters alive for a sequel... God forbid!
