Age of the Living Dead (2018)
Ignore the haydurs...it's entertaining
I don't know what's up with all these negative reviews because Season One isn't half bad. If you're looking for The Bridges of Madison County or Out of Africa quality writing (or A Midsummer's Night Dream level of costuming) then this ain't your jam cupcake. IF you're looking for something vampirey to keep ya occupied, then this show is just fine for that! I am glad I looked past the bad reviews and dove in. I like vampire stuff and this was interesting enough. I'm looking forward to watching Season 2 & 3 next.
Gateway to Hope: Overcoming Heroin (2018)
Religious propaganda disguised as "facts"
Yikes. It wouldn't be so bad if they had some truth in their advertising and just admitted that this is one long, religious promotion for THEIR perceived solution to addiction. So little facts and much propaganda in this thing. The writers of this show obviously have zero use for open mindedness and honesty......um, No. Just No.
Fanny by Gaslight (1981)
Older, Hidden Gem
I've recently found this 1981 BBC mini-series on Amazon and was pleasantly surprised. It's engaging, entertaining and a well done period piece. It doesn't have any of the 1970's-80's CHEESE factor that can sometimes be found in these older shows. For me, it was reminiscent of UPSTAIRS, DOWNSTAIRS or THE DUCHESS OF DUKE STREET (two of my favourites). It reminded me of being young and snuggling into the couch with my Aunt or Grandma to watch the aforementioned BBC shows. This series is definitely worth your time!!!
Life After Flash (2017)
What exactly is this supposed to be documenting??
I'm wondering how they justified calling this movie a documentary unless their goal was to spend 90 minutes documenting Sam J. Jones's ridiculously massive ego. The entire movie was just a laundry list of his friends, family members and a couple B grade movie actors talking about how great Sam is NOW. Well, except for the 5 minutes spent on the music guys, who were all talking about how interesting, unique and overall great the music was for the movie (which is all true but also, has NOTHING to do with Sam J. Jones). There is no discussion about Sam's life or the things he has done or the struggles he's faced that they all keep telling us he's faced. According to the narrative the 1990s were a 'difficult time' for Sam and he 'struggled'....um, HOW??? Heck, there isn't even a decent explanation for what he's CURRENTLY doing. There is no discussion or documenting about any of his past or present, period. I learned nothing new about the movie either. We already knew that QUEEN absolutely rocked the world with this amazing soundtrack and that the original score was pure genius. Like I said, We already knew all this!!!! Notice how I keep repeating the same few facts over and over and over but word them slightly differently?? Just like this movie does...........I'll finish with this: This movie gets 2 stars only because I did enjoy the 5 minutes they spent letting us hear about the music guys, about QUEEN and about the making of the music. I would never disrespect Freddie Mercury's memory by scoring this zero stars.
But seriously, don't t waste your time. Unless you enjoy watching a pointless, long winded, Sam J. Jones EGO-FEST for 90 solid minute then please find anything else to watch but this joke of a documentary. My overall rating: POINTLESS
As High as the Sky (2012)
Definitely NOT what I expected, but in a good way.
I figured this movie would be a predictable way to pass 90 minutes while I "browse-watched" and did some house work. Boy! am I pleased to announce that my assumption was completely wrong.. This movie was ANYTHING but what I expected from a movie that looked to be an Oscar and Felix 'Odd Couple" comedy set-up. The script was well written. The characters were believable and well developed. The story was not just some tired, cookie cutter, polar-opposites-in-various-uncomfortable-situations kind of story line with obvious, tired set ups and jokes. NOPE! The acting is great, the cast all works very well together and the actors bring the story alive! I highly recommend this movie.
Szatan kazal tanczyc (2017)
Highly insightful about the nature of self destruction in this modern age
To all the bad reviewers of this movie I say "Shhh". If your life view is so narrow that you miss the whole POINT of this movie, it's too bad for you and you may want to take a closer look at that soon because this movie has some serious insight into what addiction, degradation and self destruction looks like AND does an amazing job showing exactly how it looks from Karolina's point of view too. The narrow frames, the odd angles, the disjointed nature of the story that still manages to flow. All the chopped up scenes manage to convey the frenetic pace at which Karolina lives her life. I can truly appreciate what this movie director is doing and the lead actress is GREAT. This is not a fuzzy, feel good movie. It is a stark and brutal look at the realities of a life spinning out of control. If you want to truly see what self destruction looks like, from the inside out then I Highly recommend this movie.
Tideland (2005)
Please, do not bother....
I am open minded and usually really enjoy odd or interesting movies. This movie is neither of those. It is dark and twisted and sad, for no other reason than it can be. It's definitely not an enjoyable movie and unfortunately, the disgust I felt after watching it was NOT balanced out by any deep life lessons (or even a point) that would have redeemed it in some way.i wish I could rate this a negative one star and I definitely want my 2 hours back. Regarding this movie: Just Don't !
Young Adult (2011)
Strangely enjoyable AND relatable.
I liked this movie. Why? Because it had so many themes in it that I can relate to. The realization that life keeps on moving and changing even if you do not change; The friendships of familiarity that can arise between people once time has taken its toll on your dreams and hope, The fact that there is always those Beautiful People who seem to have have it all and have been able to live life on their own terms for quite a while, yet at some point you clearly see them for what they really are, even if they can't ...and so many more hilarious (in that uncomfortable "Curb Your Enthusiasm" kind of funny) life situations, that this movie has you laughing out loud but cringing on the inside. This movie deliberately makes you chuckle while making you squirm. I enjoyed all of the not-so-subtle warnings and life lessons that are there for the taking, if you only pay attention. Hopefully you can see the forest through all the trees with this one because It's definitely worth watching.

Annihilation (2018)
Meh.....
I sat through the whole thing because I was so very hopeful it would improve. They grab you with some pretty CGI effects but once the novelty wears off you realize the story had potential but never really delivered. There are so many plot holes that it is far beyond my capabilities to suspend my disbelief long enough or far enough to deal with this movie. The characters weren't really likeable or believable either. If you have a couple hours to kill, need something mindless to watch and have zero expectations then this movie will do IF there is absolutely no other option available. If you have high expectations for this to be even a so-so Sci-Fi flick, then don't waste your time....like I said, it was "meh".
