Kick-Ass (2010)
Absolute garbage
When I first saw the trailer for Kick-Ass I wrongly predicted that it was going to bomb both critically and at the box office. Boy, how wrong I was. First of all, I am not going to preach about the over the top violence in this movie and how it is destructive to our society. However, I am going to say that when I wasted by 10 bucks to see this movie I was thoroughly disgusted by my fellow movie goers for liking this movie. If you are looking for a Tarantino style in this movie, you are not going to get it. There is nothing witty in the plot or the dialogue in this entire movie. It all boils down to the almost sadistic desire to show for example an 11 year old cutting off a man's legs and then yelling "cool" while you shake your head in dismay as the audience goes wild. This movie doesn't have a shred of intellect present in it and it made me wonder if this movie was genuinely marketed for tween audience who sneak into R rated movies.
Letters from Iwo Jima (2006)
Speechless!
Sheer words cannot describe the enormity of this movie. One has to look in all places to find meaning! At its core, its so simplistic. Human emotions. Clint Eastwood made this the Japanese perspective of the war and I have to say I liked this better than Flags of our Fathers. It's really interesting to see how the Japanese side was during the war in an actual movie. The actors are simply amazing and the music is melodic and adds in to the emotion of the movie rather than cheap background music effects. The action is breathtaking in that it's really realistic and doesn't show typical Hollywood action. Loved it!! Too bad this had limited showing in the USA. Buy/rent the DVD, folks! You won't be disappointed! 10/10!!!!Yeah, its that good!
Lautlos (2004)
Unusual and provocative!
This is a very interesting perspective of action movies in other countries. No thoughtless Hollywood action flick here. This one is very well done. No overblown special effects, shootouts, chases. Very very realistic. NO cheesy one-liners or nonsense swearing. This one has normal colors and tones that make it seem real. Excellent acting from the actor who plays Felix. Also, the music adds a soft touch and expands the characteristics and the moods throughout the movie. It takes out the overblown action music and replaces it with a soft beat that adds in the suspense. Excellent movie! Additionally, good movie for anyone who would like to expand their German, like me!Actually understood most of the words without reading subtitles... 8/10
Snakes on a Plane (2006)
Great Movie
OK, first of all Sameul L Jackson kicks ass!! This movie was never meant to be taken seriously. It is 1 hour 35 minutes of corny action and ridiculous plot and it STAYS good that way. All of you and the critics who say this movie has a predictable plot and stuff...get this... IT IS MEANT TO BE THAT WAY. Seriously don't take it seriously!!!!!! This movie is for fun and simple entertainment. Its not a thriller or anything. I thought it was a damn good movie and lived up fully to my expectations. Also, this movie has a lot of corny lines in it and come on they make you laugh. The classic example is Samuel L Jackson when he says "Thats it! I have had it with these mother%^&$%*# snakes on this mother#@%^@#$ plane!"
To summarize it all if your looking for some simple action movie with lots of corny lines and one actor who is most suitable for these kind of movies then this is the movie for you.
The Kid (1921)
Makes you laugh and cry
A masterpiece that has entertained us through 80 years, this simple story with Charlie Chaplin's classic Tramp character makes you laugh while at the same exact time make a tear come out of your eye. I saw it for the first time on the Special Edition and it is amazing how they have restored the film print and digitalized and remastered the music score which is excellent, by the way. Apart from that, this is the first movie which really made me cry for the first time when Jackie Coogan or the Kid is being taken away into the Orphanage and you can see him crying for Charlie and that teary expression on Chaplin's face will make anyone cry.
A must-see for all ages, a masterpiece one of Charlie Chaplin's greatest!
Apocalypse Now (1979)
Good but could have done better...
First of all, I would like to say that the Redux was very bad. The original was better and smaller in terms of time. Perhaps the movie overreacts and all the dialouges and stuff are pretty overrated but the average grunt in Vietnam experienced this. Like the main character who hated going back to the World(USA) because of all the war protesters who were cowards not to go to Vietnam. He came back to Vietnam and the first scene is awesome and the song The End by Doors is a amazing setting to all the choppers flying over the jungle and then the jungle explodes. The sound and lighting were amazing. One can say that the dialouges were pretty overrated and in the Redux it got boring but overall it was good movie. My grandpa was a LT. in a grunt outfit in Vietnam and he goes very depressed when someone brings up Vietnam. So I guess, they saw really bad things there but the movie could have gone faster and had, not so overrated, dialouges
Date Movie (2006)
I can't believe I wasted my money on this....
This movie was probably the worst experience in my entire life. It had about 1 actual joke that made me grin just a little. Then it again went on with all the childish jokes that are appealing to brain-dead teenagers or small kids. Please do NOT see this movie if you are looking for some good laughs instead of really immature gross scenes. The acting is probably OK but this made the Scary Movies lose all their reputation even though The Date Movie had only 2 of 7 writers from the Scary Movie as so widely told in their constant commercials. I was just out looking for some laughs but instead was hammered with really really BAD jokes that were just not right.
Tip: Please do NOT take a date to this movie
Thank you for your time.
