The Room (2003)

Confusingly Touching but far too Long
3 April 2019
After being out for more than fifteen years, and having its utterly crazy production process immortalised by The Disaster Artist book and film it's safe to say that this movie has earned its place in cinema infamy. And for good reason; there is not a single redeeming element to this film, yet I still find the film strangely endearing.

As you watch the film you'll find yourself sympathizing with the actors as opposed to the characters, even if you haven't seen or read The Disaster Artist. After seeing the performances you'll obviously start speculating about what happened, and personally I think the realization that this was made by a fellow human as a passion project is a gut punch on its own considering the reception it got.

I've seen many people rate this movie as a 10 or a 9/10 but I don't see it. The first half hour is pretty funny but after that the movie just drags on for what seems like forever. I think a lot of the reviewers have forgotten that as most of us experienced it through YouTube clips and reviews, we didn't have a full viewing, which blurred the judgement of many.

An impressive work of contrast

What impresses me the most about this film is its impressive use of contrast. The difference between the protagonists real and imaginary world is both beutiful and devastating at times.

The most emotionally impactful show about a cartoon horse you'll ever see

You've probably glossed over this show while browsing Netflix thinking it's just another Family Guy, and that's just what the creators want you to think. I went into this show thinking the same thing and I was blown away. BoJack Horseman is the only show I've ever cried to, the silly cartoon about a horse in Hollywoo(d), which is a huge testament to how well-written it is.

I love this film, I'll never watch it again
27 January 2019
This is a horrible, distasteful, hilarious and brilliant film. A movie that has the modus operandi of displaying sexual frustration through deviancy will certainly alienate the vast majority of audiences, no matter how well it does its job. And let's make this clear: it does its job, and it does it almost too well as I had to watch it several times to stand getting to the end. It's amazing, but don't feel bad if you can't stomach it.
