Elemental (2023)
Great movie, predictable storyline, awesome song!!!
The movie itself deserves a solid 6.5 / 10 rating. The story is decent and has its good moments, but unfortunately falls into the predictable category of romantic comedies. However, what truly elevated the film for me was its theme song, which I have to give a +3 boost to my overall rating, bringing it up to an impressive 9.5 / 10.
I cannot quite put my finger on it, but there was something incredibly moving about the song that really struck a chord with me. It made my eyes well up with tears and left me with a lingering feeling of warmth and tenderness. The combination of the song and the film's story was truly heartwarming, and I found myself thoroughly enjoying the experience.
Overall, I would highly recommend this movie to anyone looking for a sweet and charming rom-com. While the story may be predictable, the theme song alone is worth the watch, and will leave you feeling touched and uplifted. I truly loved this movie and the emotional response it evoked in me, and I am sure many others will feel the same.
How I Met Your Father (2022)
Forced diversity! All the show feels fake and forced!
I really understand the importance of presenting diverse culture to limit the prejudice and racism in our societies. But no one likes to be forced on something, even good things. Lets be real! There are no group of friends in any society (not necessarily American) that got this diverse friends group, it feels fake which make me unable to connect with the characters, I'm not white and I'm not even American and I came from country that is more diverse than USA and I still feel the show is fake. And I feel like the writers want us (younger generations) to love this show by forcing apps and phone references in this show. Lastly I know this is the first episode, but it really made me fell lost like I don't know who's friends to whom and how they knew each other.
In the end, the whole show feels forced and fake, I hope it gets better by next episodes because I'm huge fan of HIMYM and I really loved the references of the show they put in like Lilly and Marshall apartment, hopefully the show will get better 🙏🏻
Shams Al-Ma'arif (2020)
I enjoyed but...
6 stars is really what I think about this movie, actually If I compare it with the rest of SAUDI movies and TV shows it would be the best, 10 stars without thinking, but comparing to worldwide cinema, 6 stars is fair enough.
First I'd start with what I didn't like about the movie "cons":
1- Really much use of bad language! I know they try to make the movie look much of Saudi real society life but this bad language is too much! Even with my closest friends I wouldn't say that, I don't know about Jeddah society since I'm from Al-Qassim but I don't think any SAUDI society would approve and accept that much use of bad language, and even 13+ movie wouldn't handle that much bad language
2- Too much outside references, people who don't know anything about directing/producing/designing would not understand/enjoy the movie, especially with lack of local movies we have, you would expect a lot of tastes and genres to see this movie so most of the audience wouldn't get the whole movie story
3- (not major thing) The movie supposed to be in 2010 but I notice a fair enough 2010+ stuff like Windows 10 in some computers
4- Since cinema is new thing to us I'd prefer if they respect some of Saudi values so they can have much audience to support them, despite the bad language, smoking and drugs references is too much for 13+ movie and for a society like Saudi, there's a lot of mocking of some saudi values I didn't appreciate it honestly, for a beginning of Saudi filmmaking, they have to have some respect of our values to have more support.
5- Classical representation of a dominating/commanding mother, weak/insecure father and perfect/beloved-by parents-sibling, all "teen" local and worldwide shows used that representation of a family.
6- The script is too replicated and predictable sometimes you get bored with it.
Now for the "pros":
1- Directing is so good, the image is always moving and not still you hardly can get bored
2- Some actors are really good they surprised me with their acting, especially Sohaib with Orabi character, I knew him for a YouTube Top 5 show but I didn't know he could act like that good, you have also Hussam I knew him from a channel in YouTube and I noticed there that he has a career in acting and it was a good thing to see his first role in a Saudi movie, other main characters were "meh", you really feel they "acting" the acting, but they have a good chance in acting career
3- Storyline was pretty predictable but in same time was a little bit good.
4- The movie took us to more than one place in Jeddah which made me feel that it's really "vivid" and make me take a "different" look to what the other sides of Jeddah is.
5- using animation to represent Hussam ideas was a really good move, I really liked it!
Finally, for a beginning, it was really good movie! And I can't wait to see how local filmmaking would be in future
Young Sheldon (2017)
Good show
After I finished TBBT, I felt soo empty, I really enjoyed it even though that I watched the whole series in almost 1.5 month, but I felt that it overwhelmed all aspects of my life, maybe because we were in quarantine ,idk . When I knew that there's a spin-off of TBBT, I ran as fast as I could and downloaded the whole series , OMG! I don't know if it possible but I liked Young Sheldon more than I liked TBBT! (that doesn't mean that TBBT is bad), This show (despite that it is "almost" family friendly) was really funny and entertaining, and the kid who played young Sheldon he really nailed his role! I'm fan of Sheldon's character and it make me really laugh! Sometimes when I watch him I really feel that I'm watching Sheldon but in a kid body! And the most moment that overwhelmed my feelings is when they show a "hints" of TBBT, I'm really disappointed that they didn't show that much about other TBBT characters, and I understand why but I really loved other TBBT characters, especially Leonard and Penny, more even than Sheldon, and knowing that I'll never watch them anymore it really disappointing me.
Overall this series has a different "soul" if I may say than TBBT, I don't know about others opinions but for me you can watch this series without watching TBBT, you will get some jokes in it if you watched TBBT but it doesn't has that much connection with TBBT, it has different characters, except Sheldon of course, and maybe his mom but she didn't appear that much in TBBT like in Young Sheldon, and it has different story line and different way of filming (I don't know what the word is /: ), TBBT was a sitcom but Young Sheldon is different.
Young Sheldon: A Swedish Science Thing and the Equation for Toast (2019)
Last 2 mins <\3
The last 2 minutes made me almost cry )_: , sometimes I feel I watch a whole different show and not spin-off of another show, but the last minutes when they show young TBBT characters made me "reconnect" this show with TBBT and made me miss it , it was beautiful and hard feeling in the same time <3 <\3
The Rat (2019)
I can't rate because I'm not a critic 💔
Ziad the main actor says :" the movie is for critics only". As a humble audience, I think this movie was the worst movie I've ever seen 😅
Aladdin (2019)
The movie was really great, but I have some notes to declare
The movie was great and I very enjoyed it,
As an Arab I noticed a lot of things that made my experience in this movie so good and made me feel that the movie is really talk about "Arabic" story.
I actually felt in several scenes that I watch an Arabic movie that dubbed in English (: .
Like using Arabic in background dialogues really made me felt that it is an Arabic movie.
And using Arab origin actors in some main parts was smart idea, because they can pronounce the Arabic names 100% correctly, but they still never pronounced "Aladdin" correct, Aladdin actually pronounced like : "Ala'a Addeen" , first name "Ala'a" , last name "Addeen" , just to know /:.
Also using Arabic "and real Arabic not just random pushing at an Arabic keyboard like I saw in a lot of non-Arabic movies" scripts in some scenes . Rarely I see non-Arabic shows show a whole Arabic sentence without a typo or Grammatical mistake but in this movie the whole Arabic scripts that used were right and it is so impressive to see that , even in the scene when the genie shows the rules of the kingdom it was really talking about "A member of the royal family should just married from a royal family" and not "just random pushing at an Arabic keyboard" like I said.
Back to the point about using Arabic in background dialogues I noticed that they used Arabic nowadays dialects especially Levantine and Egyptian dialects which weren't existed yet in the time where the story happened, if they just used MSA would be more realistic and convinced.
And dress style for girls and dances were actually more Indian style than Arabic , when they started dancing I felt the movie started to style a little bollywoodian way and not Arabic, but rather than that the movie made me really feel "that the movie is really talk about "Arabic" story."
