The Peanut Butter Falcon (2019)
Sweet and heart warming but lacked a bit of depth.
Zak is amazing and he did so well in this film, plus I'm a massive Shia fan so I really enjoyed this movie. It's cute and I'd recommend it. Only thing that marred it slightly was it did lack a bit of depth to the storyline, which was quite typical cookie cutter "outdoor journey" style. But it was an easy watch and not too intense, unlike Shias other recent work like Honey Boy which was really sad
Mother! (2017)
Really affected me
It's a brilliant film, well shot and with a good plotline (which put me in mind of God and Mother Nature in conflict with a fair few similar biblical references). However I'd say not to watch it when you are feeling vulnerable, low or emotional as it is a very tough watch. The emotional abuse and dismissive way the lead female is treated by her partner really affected me and disturbed me somewhat hence only 7/10. The ending with the baby was particularly horrible and I was very emotional afterwards.
The Queen's Corgi (2019)
Pretty good
My son enjoyed this but he's young enough for the jokes to go over his head, thank goodness! If you're happy to watch it and be light hearted and ignore some of the inappropriate references it's quite a cute family film.
The Back-up Plan (2010)
Chick flick about a wider issue
Not realistic at all, and a very rose tinted view of life, however as a chick flick this was cute to watch. Overall it's enjoyable if a little cringeworthy and the actors have clearly been chosen for their good looks. This film is a kind of "does what it says on the tin" deal but if you're having a girls night in (and you're aged 25-45) it makes for easy viewing
Bottom of the World (2017)
Disappointed
I had such high hopes for this film after seeing it pop up in my recommendations. It starts well and has an intense vibe with a sense of mystery and dark foreboding, but actually in the end turns out to be a rather boring attempt at psychological thriller. It wasn't totally unwatchable and the acting itself was not bad but there was so much more potential they could have used for this film.
Aladdin (2019)
Robin Williams would be proud
In keeping with the original cartoons storyline, this was a family film enjoyed by all. The music and characters were enjoyable and Will Smith 'made' the movie as Genie. For very young children there was a lot of talking, and my young son got bored at some parts, but it is a very well made movie worth a trip to the cinema
