Back to Life (2019)
Complete Garbage
Honestly what is the matter with everyone praising this vacuous and incredibly infantile series. Disgusting without being funny, depressing without any respite,
Acting of such limited dimensions it would have been better done as an animation. Each episode is barely half an hour long yet it's so miserable it feels like a lifetime.
I can honestly say it is the worst series I have ever seen. Unlike the main character I'd rather spend 18 years in jail than have to watch this over again.
If anyone feels like starting a writing career then this is a must watch you couldn't but be inspired as to how low the bar is set for you to be a success.
The English (2022)
Such utter drivel
I have never but never seen such utter drivel.
Bares no resemblance of a historical account or even anything remotely close as to how the west was won.
The script is so bizarre it ends up as being completely farcical. The scene between Blunt and the Germans ends up being hilarious for all the wrong reasons.
The acting is either a pathetic take on spaghetti westerns or it's just bad.
Blunt's moody pouting and absurd attire just adds to the misery of watching this programme.
One star for some good scenery.
Extremely concerning that anyone could be taken in by such mindless drivel accept it seems some want to kneel at Blunt's attempt at being a director.
The Virtuoso (2021)
Gripping
Can't believe the poor reviews. I usually am much more critical than most. Good plot, simple effective acting, well concluded. Hopkins has a small role but again brings his magic. Not sure I have any real criticism. Scenery and atmosphere was spot on and the whole thing moved along at a good pace. Some good B class actors pop up along the way. Certainly a film worth watching its on Netflix. If there are more movies like this with similarly poor ratings I will be delighted, Not sure why the old man wanted to do what he did but I can hazard a good guess hopefully you can as well. Wonder where it was filmed.
Stay Close (2021)
Garbage
In fairness it is Christmas time and their is a lot of trash around, put this in your bin first and put more worthy trash on top of it. I wail at the pathetic script, ridiculous plot, ham acting and investigative interest of a dirty nappy.
Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain (2001)
Beautiful
A really beautiful, witty and romantic film. Wonderfully portrayed with sensitivity and humour. The lead actress portrayed her role perfectly.
Two hours well spent.
Twin (2019)
Brilliant
Absolutely wonderful from start to finish.
Acting, script, plot and scenery.
So great to have a story which was intriguing and different.
Enjoyed every episode.
The Power of the Dog (2021)
Parody of a DH Lawrence Novel gone wrong
Tedious, boorish and failed attempts at symbolism make this a movie for pseudo intellects who like dramatic scenery and superficial music attempting to underline the whole "western" wokeness of it all.
Dune (2021)
Brilliant
I have read the novel Dune and it's sequels many times.
It a breath taking piece of literature and bewildering imagination.
It's simply an impossible task to translate the full breadth and scale of these books on film.
I have seen all the previous movies as well as TV mini series. Some make fair attempts in parts but overall they are nowhere close.
This DUNE 2021 movie (part 1) is a masterpiece. About as close to the book as it's possible to get. The pick of actors and interaction is spot on. The epic scale comes over extremely well on screen as does the soundtrack from Franco Z.
The director has been very sensible to break the book into potentially three movies. The book itself is in three parts.
Brilliant although I still think you need to read the book first to fully appreciate the dimension of what is being attempted.
The North Water (2021)
Absolutely Brilliant
There are few series that I would watch a second time around. This would be one. Tightly written and directed story, excellent acting by all, immensely atmospheric and an all round reverting watch.
Fargo (2014)
Season 3
Utter garbage. Ridiculous plot, can't make its mind what kind of show they are doing. Filled with obscure detritus to make it seem intellectually 'with it'. Even try and do a pathetic version of Twin Peaks.
Series 1 Great
Series 2 Good
Series 3 Nonsense.
3022 (2019)
Amazing
I am so surprised by the low ratings. Normally I'm very critical of a movie.
This was well acted, the scenes and atmosphere very realistic, the story was novel and the playing out of human endeavour and emotions was extremely well portrayed. I suppose if you are looking for a Star Wars or equivalent Sci Fi movie this isn't for you.
I think this movie will gain a growing cult fan club.
Peaky Blinders (2013)
Absolutely Brilliant
The best series ever on BBC. However, that's not really doing it justice. I have seen all of the best rated series on Netflix, Sky etc etc.
I would put this in my top 3. Stunning performances with the exception of Polly w.
Behind Her Eyes (2021)
How disappointing !
First couple of episodes were excellent. Acting, plot, direction and production.
Then it fell of a cliff that the actors did their best to hold together.
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (2017)
Amazing!
A truly outstanding series and I have watched 3 seasons. Uplifting and brilliant on all counts - script, acting from all, scenery, costumes, plot, production, direction, attention to detail etc. Massive.
Keeping Faith (2017)
Preposterous Rubbish
Maybe the BBC thought they were getting their money's worth? Each episode feels like 10. I
- Really dreadful over wrought acting
- Director has a shoe fetish
- Faith appears to be in love with herself
- Pathetic implausible simpleton plot
- Tedious background music
- No great advert for Wales
The Stanford Prison Experiment (2015)
Extremely disturbing
A very well produced and realistic interpretation of the real thing. Utterly convincing.
Ozark (2017)
Series 4
The character of Ben sister of Wendy is dreadful. The acting the cropping all over the plot with a rubbish side story. The whole series has tanked.
Lupin (2021)
What a snooze
Boring story
Rubbish script
Average acting
Cliches
Juvenile puzzle plot
If you are over 21 with an IQ of less than 21 probably enthralling
Dunsmore (2003)
Very interesting
Well told story of an interesting event .
No the most cinematically brilliant but one of those small time movies well worth watching.
The Windermere Children (2020)
Just Amazing
How wonderful a film like this can share such a heartbreaking yet heartwarming story of real events. A privilege to watch it.
Taking Lives (2004)
Drivel
Poor acting poor script apparently based on a book I won't be reading.
Dark Crimes (2016)
Actually a good watch
Despite the surprisingly harsh reviews this movie is good.
I think Jim Carey's performance is pretty good and a far cry from previous roles.
Acting is good all rounD and the dark brooding atmosphere is well directed.
It falls down on a weak plot that is very predictable.
Reclaim (2014)
Crap
Crappy crap. Crappy crap. Crappy crap
Nonsense, rubbish, boring, tedious, dumb, pitiful
My Octopus Teacher (2020)
Mind blowing
An extraordinary and extremely moving film, a complete wonder. Never sen anything quite like it. So glad I've seen it.
Two Men in Town (2014)
Wonderful Performances
Excellent movie. Much under rated I feel. The acting from all is spot on and Whitaker once again puts in a star performance. Director creates a very moving atmosphere and some of the cinematic shots are fabulous.
I do take on board from some Muslim reviewers that perhaps that aspect is quite disjointed and not really relevant.
