ZOOMER [Trailer]
‘Zoomer’ is about the life of Mary DeBoutez Zellmer-Fenoglio [or "Zoomer" as she is known to her friends], the eccentric and charismatic owner of ‘Zoomer’s Treasures’, a junk lovers paradise and somewhat unlikely local landmark that stands by the side of Highway 171 in rural Kansas, USA.
Lost in Kansas mid-way through a cross-country road trip, director Sam Huntley and friend, photographer Annie Collinge happened upon ‘Zoomer’s Treasures’. Intrigued by ‘Big Bertha’, the giant sized welsh dresser that stands at the foot of the property, they entered the shop, unsure of what they would find.
An instant bond was formed and MaryÂ’s infectious personality made a lasting impression on Sam who, 18 months later, returned to film this personal and touching portrait.
In the intervening time, the down turn in the US economy and rising fuel charges have seen the passing trade that Mary’s business relied on completey cease to exist, meaning that running the shop has become a false economy – costing her more in electricity and taxes than she is making selling her wares.
In an attempt to generate other sources of income, Mary has begun dedicating her artistic flair to building huge, beautiful, one-off pieces of furniture.
MaryÂ’s struggle and lifelong search for the acknowledgement her talents deserve go on.
