Jimmy Durante Show Radio Segments with Dave Barry (and son Alan). 1947-1948
The Jimmy Durante radio show was immensely poplar nationwide, and comedian Dave Barry became a regular weekly member of his ensemble from 1947-1948. He performed a variety of his distinctive voices and sounds for the shows, and had a regular part as the gurgle voiced "Mr Ripple," the commissioner of rivers and waterways. Many of the top stars of the time played on these shows including Bob Hope, Rose Marie, Van Johnson and many more. On many of the show segments, Durante would also chat briefly with Mr. Ripple's son Trickle (Barry's real life 6 year old son Alan).
Durante became a showbiz mentor for Barry during these important years, and the show led to additional opportunities including "Toast Of The Town" with Ed Sullivan in 1948 - which was one of Sullivan's earliest TV broadcasts.
