Future by Design
A child of the Great Depression, 20th century futurist, inventor, architectural designer, and social-industrial engineer Jacques Fresco posits a vision of the future in which society and human life are guided not by politics but by scientific method; where man is in balance with nature and lives on sustainable resources as infinite as the needs of human consumption. This is no utopian society. This future-by-design hinges on the contingency of a civilization that regards resources as the property of all rather than just a select few. Having spent decades theorizing and inventing in the realms of holistic, sustainable city architectural designs; high-level industrial automation; natural resource management; and energy efficiency, this is a future that, according to Fresco, is entirely possible. Jacques Fresco's work and his visions -- as well as the charming and controversial Fresco himself -- are the subjects of this documentary from Academy Award-winning filmmaker William Gazecki.
