Arguably the most popular video game voice actor out there, Troy Baker has one of the most unique portfolios in the industry. On one hand, he has starred in epic video-game series such as The Last of Us, Uncharted, and Death Stranding.
On the other, he has voiced characters such as The Batman, Joker, Hawkeye and even Loki in various media forms. The Joel Miller of The Last of Us video game franchise, Baker was also involved in the TV series and played the minor role of James. While the leading role eventually went to Pedro Pascal, who did as good a job as one can expect, the Chilean superstar was not Baker’s first choice for the role.

A Story of Floating Weeds / Floating Weeds: Two Films by Yasujiro Ozu on Blu-ray released to the Criterion Collection on May 7th, 2024.
This marked only my third and forth film by Yasujiro Ozu. I already owned the Criterion Collection releases of Tokyo Story and Good Morning, both of which I thoroughly enjoyed, with Good Morning instantly becoming one of my favorite experiences with Japanese cinema. Part of what makes the Criterion Collection so great is the way it makes important films easily accessible for collectors.

Twin movies. Doppelgängers. Rapid fire remakes. Whatever you want to call them, Hollywood studios have a long and painful history of rushing concepts that run the gamut from similar to identical into theaters at virtually the same moment. Oftentimes the belief is if you get before the cameras first, the competitor(s) will throw in the towel and cancel production. Yet once in a while what seems like a turf war played out in industry trade papers, where the disputed territories are overlapping ideas or historical personages, spills out into the multiplex as “the same movie” comes to cinemas weeks or months apart.
This phenomenon is more than a hundred years old, with the first such instance believed to be two silent adaptations of Ivanhoe being produced on different continents in 1913, although a clearer kickoff might be when Paramount and MGM competed to get the first American Mata Hari movie...

Chris Hemsworth is doubling down on Transformers. The actor is in talks to lead an untitled crossover film for Paramount and Hasbro Entertainment that unites the Transformers and G.I. Joe franchises, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
This marks a second Transformers project for Hemsworth, who voice stars in the upcoming Transformers One animated movie, which arrives in theaters Sept. 20.
The proposed film follows the events of last year’s Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, which ended with Anthony Ramos’ Noah Diaz getting a job offer from the Joes. We’ve been waiting a few years to see if and when the Marvel Cinematic Universe Blade reboot that’s set to star Mahershala Ali of Green Book is going to go into production – and while we continue to wait, Ali is in talks to join former MCU star Scarlett Johansson in the new Jurassic World movie that’s in the works at Universal! As The Hollywood Reporter notes, Ali tends to be very selective and usually avoids Hollywood blockbuster-type projects (aside from Blade), so getting him to sign on for a role would be a big “get” for this project.
If Ali’s deal closes, he’ll be sharing the screen with Johansson (Black Widow), Jonathan Bailey (Bridgerton), Rupert Friend (Anatomy of a Scandal), Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (The Lincoln Lawyer), and a bunch of hungry dinosaurs. Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (The Lincoln Lawyer), Rupert Friend (Asteroid City) and Jonathan Bailey (Wicked) are also on board to star.
Gareth Edwards (2014’s Godzilla, The Creator) will be directing the new installment, with original Jurassic Park writer David Koepp returning to write the screenplay.

Mahershala Ali, the two-time Oscar winner who was last seen in Netflix’s hit thriller Leave the World Behind, is in talks to join Scarlett Johansson in Universal’s new Jurassic World feature.
Jonathan Bailey, Rupert Friend and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo are already on the manifest for the project that is stomping toward a production start in mid-June in London with Gareth Edwards in the director’s chair.
The studio is keeping plot details hidden in a can of Barbasol. David Koepp, the original screenwriter of Jurassic Park (1993) and The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997), penned the script for the new installment.
Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley, who have shepherded the modern Jurassic franchise, will produce through Kennedy/Marshall. Steven Spielberg, who kicked off the franchise with Jurassic Park, is exec producing through Amblin Entertainment.
Universal has set a theatrical release of July 2, 2025, which means it will be hustling like a velociraptor in postproduction.

Being recognized as the most commercially successful director of all time, Steven Spielberg has prominently inscribed his name in history. However, few people know that long before starting such iconic franchises, as Jaws, Indiana Jones and Jurassic Park, the pioneer of the modern blockbuster had a very strong start as a full-length director.
Indeed, back in 1971, when Spielberg was only 25, he made a TV movie that holds up today. More than that, it can even be dubbed the most inventive film ever made by the accomplished filmmaker.
The movie’s seemingly straight-forward plot revolves around a salesman on his way to meet a client. He is driving his car through rural California, but his calm trip is about to be disturbed by a tanker truck driver, who starts chasing him down a highway.
The protagonist notices a mysterious person following him and is quick to get scared of being killed by him,...

You can chart Steven Spielberg's evolution as a director by the "Indiana Jones" films. By 1981, the former wunderkind had gotten the wind knocked out of him by the muted reaction to his erratic 1979 burlesque "1941" (which earned him a tsk-tsking from John Wayne) and was hungry for a rebound. Teaming up with his buddy George Lucas, he made "Raiders of the Lost Ark," a rollicking pastiche that has since supplanted the '30s and '40s serials that inspired their action-adventure in our cultural consciousness.
1984's "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" saw Spielberg wade further into the horror pool he'd explored two years earlier in "Poltergeist," a suburban nightmare that neither he nor director Tobe Hooper can take full credit for. "Temple of Doom" might just feature some of the most exhilarating pacing and grandest spectacle of the filmmaker's career, but that's difficult to appreciate beneath the film's racial insensitivity and general mean-spiritedness.

In the world of superheroes, Spider-Man has had a special place in the hearts of fans worldwide. His agility, web-swinging powers, sixth sense, and relatable persona as Peter Parker have made him a beloved figure in the genre.

Anyone expecting the usual A-list documentary fodder — wacky on-set anecdotes, salacious showbiz gossip — will come away disappointed from this 90-minute deep dive into William Shatner's life, work, wit and wisdom. Instead, You Can Call Me Bill takes the form of a meandering, stream-of-consciousness monologue, with its subject mostly sitting moist-eyed in a darkened room, pondering everything from the "exquisite agony" of evolution to the potential existence of God.
If this makes the film sound pretentious, well... it is, a little. Indeed, some of the lengthier sections, in which Shatner ruminates on death, loneliness and existential terror, are a bit like being trapped inside a Samuel Beckett novel. If this makes the film sound pretentious, well... it is, a little. Indeed, some of the lengthier sections, in which Shatner ruminates on death, loneliness and existential terror, are a bit like being trapped inside a Samuel Beckett novel. Netflix’s Seine-set shark thriller Under Paris could be taken off the platform within days of its release on June 5 due to legal proceedings brought by a writer-director who claims it was developed without his knowledge from an original idea he registered with France’s rights management body Sacd in 2011.
An initial hearing on June 14 will pass judgement on a legal request by the complainant’s lawyer for the film’s release to be suspended while a second lawsuit around accusations of parasitism makes its way through the courts.
Taking its cue from article 1240 of France’s Civil Code, parasitism is defined as one party following in the footsteps of another party’s efforts and know-how to benefit from their enterprise without seeking permission or making payment.

Exclusive: Global TV and film studio Sister is gearing up for a string of projects to hit the small and big screens and today might well see the launch of its most daring.
Netflix’s Eric about a desperate father battling his own demons on the streets of 1980s New York as he searches for his missing nine-year-old son features Benedict Cumberbatch and a custom-made seven foot puppet, which is visible only to Cumberbatch’s character, the flawed Vincent. Abi Morgan’s six-part series ties together themes of belonging, addiction, loss and police brutality in a familiar setting. It was described as Sesame Street meets Taxi Driver by one British reviewer, although Sister creative chief Jane Featherstone compared it in scope and theme to Steven Spielberg’s Et.
Speaking exclusively to Deadline, Featherstone said the show is testament to the Chernobyl and This is Going to Hurt studio’s commitment to taking a talent-first approach.

Exclusive: Netflix has given the green light to what it calls the “next iteration” of its Emmy-contending documentary series Life on Our Planet, with Morgan Freeman set to return as narrator and Steven Spielberg as executive producer.
The as-yet-untitled show from Silverback Films and Amblin Documentaries will “tell the story of the rise and fall of the dinosaurs – where they came from, why they mattered, how they evolved and how they met their ultimate fate.”
Season 1 of Life on Our Planet examined not only the dinosaurs, but the rise of invertebrates, mammals, plants, and other life forms across billions of years of evolution up until the present. Industrial Light & Magic (Ilm) returns to craft the visual effects and animation; Grammy Award-winner Lorne Balfe is back as composer.

Deadline reports that Hero Fiennes Tiffin of the After film series has signed on to star in the Young Sherlock series that has been ordered by Prime Video – and to clear up any possible confusion before it can arise: no, this is not a series reboot or continuation of the 1985 film Young Sherlock Holmes, which came to us from director Barry Levinson, screenwriter Chris Columbus, and producer Steven Spielberg. Rather, this is an adaptation of the Young Sherlock series of novels that author Andrew Lane started writing in 2010. That series was a response to the success Charlie Higson was having with his series of Young James Bond novels. Guy Ritchie is on board to direct and executive produce all eight episodes of Young Sherlock‘s first season. Ritchie, of course, has prior Sherlock Holmes experience, having directed Robert Downey Jr. as the iconic character in the 2009 film Sherlock Holmes and...

No major film festival is complete without at least one Love Letter To Cinema™ from a filmmaker of some renown, to advocate the joys of the medium to an audience that doesn’t have to be told twice. French writer-director and Cannes regular Arnaud Desplechin brings that to the Croisette this year with “Filmlovers!,” a duly warm and nostalgia-washed cine-valentine, but one with a little more to say than just, “Movies, amirite?” Indeed, the film’s somewhat inelegant English-language title risks concealing the more specific focus of this unassuming but winning hybrid documentary: The French title, “Spectateurs!,” makes clear this is first and foremost a celebration of spectatorship rather than filmmaking, probing the dynamics of cinema audiences and their relationship to the screen. In either language, it’s impassioned enough to earn its exclamation point.

Quentin Tarantino is a lover of cinema first and a filmmaker second. The maverick director has often been vocal about his favorite films of all time as well as his current favorites. Tarantino has also criticized the changing landscape of the industry, echoing the sentiments of Martin Scorsese, who went on a war against the likes of Marvel and DC.
One film that Tarantino was pleasantly surprised by and loved was Tom Cruise’s action blockbuster Top Gun: Maverick. A sequel to Tony Scott’s 1986 classic, Tarantino appreciated director Joseph Kosinski’s vision and the respect he showed for the original. Though the Pulp Fiction director had a problem with Val Kilmer’s scene in the film, he mentioned that it still worked.

Brad Pitt and George Clooney are back together on film — outside of the “Ocean’s” cinematic universe.
The duo co-star in action-comedy movie “Wolfs,” which is written and directed by Jon Watts. In “Wolfs,” Clooney plays a professional fixer hired to cover up a high-profile crime. But when a second fixer (Pitt) shows up and the two “lone wolves” are forced to work together, they find their night spiraling out of control in ways that neither one of them expected. Just another night in the fixer industry, we imagine.
Amy Ryan, Austin Abrams, and Poorna Jagannathan co-star in “Wolfs.”
Both Clooney and Pitt produce the film, as do Watts, Grant Heslov, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, and Dianne McGunigle. Michael Beugg executive produces.
Watts is also making a Steven Spielberg-inspired “Star Wars” series for Disney+ that will star Jude Law. Watts was actually supposed to direct the “Fantastic Four” reboot,...

Ryan Gosling’s The Fall Guy seems to have had a rough run at the box office. Based on the TV show of the same name, the film followed Gosling as a stuntman who gets involved in a conspiracy involving the lead actor of a film directed by his ex-girlfriend, played by Emily Blunt. The action comedy was directed by David Leitch, who last helmed Bullet Train.
Gosling’s film reportedly only earned a meager $145 million against a $127 million budget, making it a box office bomb. While the film received positive responses from fans and critics, author Stephen King seemed to have had a mixed reaction to the film. He reportedly disagreed with a review of the film that called it ‘great fun’.

Alfred Molina has donned a ton of iconic roles spread across multiple different genres that perfectly display his versatility as an actor throughout his over four-decade-long and counting career. But his most commendable performance, besides that of Doc Ock in Spider-Man‘s saga, was his minor debut role as Satipo in Steven Spielberg’s Raiders of the Lost Ark from 1981.

Even though his role was very minor with a brief screen time in the Indiana Jones movie, Molina still had to go through stuff that would be a nightmare for all the people terrified of spiders. This is because, while Tobey Maguire’s second film as the web-slinger didn’t really force him to do anything with spiders, it was actually Spielberg who made his scene an absolute nightmare to shoot.

As the driving force behind a blockbuster franchise, Peter Jackson has not only secured a place among some of the most celebrated filmmakers in the industry, but has also made quite a fortune for himself. His journey to Tinseltown has been nothing short of extraordinary, and began with an early start in New Zealand, with multiple short films and cult classics like Bad Taste.

However, his filmmaking journey truly commenced with a 16 mm camera with his two years of savings, which has since transformed into a fortune that now surpasses the combined wealth of two Hollywood giants, Martin Scorsese and James Cameron.

Peter Jackson’s initial fascination with the world of cinema began with the TV series Thunderbirds and the 1933 film King Kong, which led him to experiment with his family’s home camera and stop-motion animation technique.

Despite a muted reception back in May 1994 — certainly compared to Spike Lee’s previous film “Malcolm X” — “Crooklyn” has endured for three decades as one of the director’s most treasured films.
At the time, Spike Lee was still in the first decade of his career as a director, and “Crookyln” marked his seventh film in nine years with his “brand” in the popular consciousness as a polemical artist at the vanguard of the ’90s Black New Wave that also featured filmmakers such as John Singleton, Mario Van Peebles, and the Hughes Brothers.
Crooklyn, while fitting within Spike’s collected body of work about the Black experience in America, took a detour in tone from his earlier, more overtly political films such as “Do the Right Thing” and “Jungle Fever.” Contemporary reactions to the film were mixed, and “Crooklyn,” like all of Spike’s post-”Malcolm X” films up to “Inside Man,...

George Lucas defends Marvel as cinema and says Scorsese “has kind of changed his mind” on his stance
George Lucas is part of the 70s class of filmmakers who reshaped movies. Lucas and his peers — Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg and Francis Ford Coppola — have been back in the spotlight as of late. While Scorsese and Coppola have resided on the less commercial side of films for the majority of their legacy, they have also been the ones who have famously come out against the long-running popular genre of comic book superhero movies in recent years. Scorsese would not completely count out the entertainment of Marvel films, but the Killers of the Flower Moon director would make his statement that Marvel isn’t cinema. Coppola, however, would be less diplomatic about the matter and not only agree with Scorsese’s statement but also refer to them as “despicable.”

In a time when any comment can be taken as being offensive, every public figure has to be careful. Whether you agree with that or not, the situation is like that, and one has to be careful what comes out of their mouth. In light of that, there is a profound confusion when public figures come out and openly do something stupid. And we’re not referring to situations that can be misinterpreted, that can go either way, but about situations when a public figure openly says stupid things and offensive things. How can this happen? Having an opinion is one thing, but being blatantly offensive towards others and slandering them based on their race, gender, religion… why? How?

Wes Craven's 1977 film "The Hills Have Eyes," like Tobe Hooper's "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre" before it, features a vanload of city folks who find themselves waylaid in a forgotten corner of the American wasteland. In Craven's film, the wasteland is not rural Texas, but the irradiated deserts of Nevada. The protagonists (Dee Wallace is among them) are beset by the brood of the sadistic Papa Jupiter (James Whitworth), including Mars (Lance Gordon), Mercury (Arthur King), and Pluto (Michael Berryman). Years ago, Jupiter moved into the hills with his wife (Cordy Clark) and raised their children to attack and cannibalize passers-through in order to survive. "The Hills Have Eyes" is raw and brutal, but possessed of a winking sense of humor that horror fans will appreciate.

Richard Dreyfus Sexist Rant Sparks Apology ( Photo Credit – Wikimedia )

It all began when the Cabot hosted the 76-year-old “Jaws” star for “An Evening With Richard Dreyfuss” on Saturday, May 25, before the film’s Massachusetts Theatre screening.
However, things supposedly went off the rails as soon as Richard Dreyfus walked to the stage wearing a dress over his clothes. In a YouTube video taken by an audience member, the actor was seen on stage wearing a floral print dress, shaking his hips to Love Story by Taylor Swift in the background.

While war movies are always hard to watch, especially when you know they are based on real events that took place decades ago and there are families that have never recovered from their losses, it is an extremely important genre that shows its viewers the horrors and devastation that any military conflict brings.
What makes these films so interesting from an industry perspective is the technical detail, costume and set design, CGI and editing that takes the picture to another level and makes it feel realistic. When amazing storytelling meets great execution, you get masterpieces like Casualties of War.

Noted American actor Richard Dreyfuss has been on the receiving end of stark criticism after his appearance at a special screening event of Jaws at The Cabot theater in Beverly, Massachusetts. The 76-year-old was the special guest at an “An Evening With Richard Dreyfuss + Jaws Screening” which was held over Memorial Day.
However, hundreds of attendees allegedly walked out of the Q&a session following multiple homophobic, transphobic, and racist comments allegedly made at the event by Dreyfuss. According to social media responses, Dreyfuss allegedly spoke offensively about Barbara Streisand, and criticized the Academy’s rules on inclusivity, before going on a rant against transphobic people ‘affirming their gender.’

A Massachusetts theater is apologizing to its patrons who came to attend a screening of Jaws with star Richard Dreyfuss but instead were subjected to alleged sexist and homophobic comments from the actor over Memorial Day weekend.
Attendees who headed Saturday to The Cabot theater in Beverly, Massachusetts, for what was billed as “An Evening With Richard Dreyfuss + Jaws Screening” were likely anticipating some amusing or insightful anecdotes from the actor about filming the classic Steven Spielberg action blockbuster.
Instead, the Oscar winner went on a freeform rant that, according to social media posts from those in attendance, began while he was speaking about Barbra Streisand and moved into his bigoted perspective on trans youth, the Academy Awards’ inclusion rules and then on to trans kids affirming their gender.
Following the event, attendees quickly took to social media to criticize the actor’s remarks, with some saying they even walked out during the event.
