Intro: At the time of writing this episode of Arnie Revisited, it’s just been confirmed that Hollywood is once again scouring popular IP with the upcoming reboot of The Running Man from Edgar Wright, with rising star Glen Powell attached to the project. The Top Gun: Maverick actor is certainly hot property right now, having just cosied up to Sydney Sweeney in Anyone But You. However, it was another actor, whose star was crashing through the sky in the 80s, who first took on the adaptation of Stephen King’s short story, which was written under his Richard Bachman pen name.
Arnie had just battled camouflaged alien hunters in Predator, released in June 1987, and the same year saw him take on another action sci-fi project, albeit this time with less aliens but similarly memorable action and one-liners. It was quite a departure from the original short story, but the...

The Story: A covert army unit goes to war with Cash Bailey (Powers Boothe), a well-connected drug dealer, who also happens to be the childhood best friend of an honest Texas Ranger (Nick Nolte) who’s caught in the middle of what’s turning into a bloody drug war.
The Players: Starring: Nick Nolte, Powers Boothe, Michael Ironside, Clancy Brown, William Forsythe, María Conchita Alonso, and Rip Torn. Music by Jerry Goldsmith. Directed by Walter Hill.
The History: Let me take a moment here to pay tribute to an actor who never gets his due anymore: the late Powers Boothe. While never a household name, he was well-known as a character actor in a career that spanned four decades. He appeared in a lot of great movies, including Southern Comfort, The Emerald Forest, Sin City, heck – even The Avengers! But, one of the best roles he ever had was in...

After nearly 35 years, the "Predator" franchise is still going strong. Despite a fair share of disappointment during its seven-film (and counting) run, every decade produces a strong chapter that reinvigorates interest in the mysterious alien hunters. John McTiernan's muscle-bound 1987 creature feature starring Arnold Schwarzenegger remains the best. Still, more recent offerings like Nimród Antal's 2010 sequel "Predators" and Dan Trachtenberg's 2022 prequel "Prey" have closed the gap and provided hope for future entries.
Delightfully R-rated, the "Predator" series follows a group of elite alien warriors, brought to life with incredible special effects, who venture to different planets to test themselves against the best killers they can find. Curiously, none of the films have allowed a Predator to claim victory over their most formidable foes, though they do enjoy minor victories that make way for some nasty spine-ripping action. To date, we've seen Predator eliminate its victims in various ways...

The Vampire’s Kiss episode of Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? was Written by Ric Solomon, Narrated by Travis Hopson, Edited by Jaime Vasquez, Produced by Lance Vlcek and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
Nicolas Cage has brought us some truly unhinged performances. From Castor Troy in Face/Off, to his supporting role as Eddie in Deadfall, and even Edward Malus, a woman-punching policeman in the 2006 remake of The Wicker Man. There is no stopping his extreme method acting. But where did it all come from? In 1989, Nicolas’ seedling was born in the horror comedy Vampire’s Kiss (get it Here). Back in the 80’s, some would say that his performance was too chaotic and horrendous. If you were to ask a millennial’s opinion today, they would tell you it’s one of the greatest films ever made. This film might have begun Cage’s method acting, but...

"This year we need a drink that wins it all!" How about just a nice espresso? An official trailer has debuted for an indie comedy called Coffee Wars, just a movie about baristas battling it out at a coffee competition. This hasn't premiered at any film festivals, as far as we know, and it will be out to watch in March on VOD. Coffee aficionado Jo is doing her best to keep her plant-based, independent, coffee shop afloat alongside her band of misfit employees. In a last-ditch effort to save her business, Jo and her team embark to battle it out as the underdogs competing in the World Barista Championship in order to finally have a chance to prove herself in the dairy-dominated world of coffee. The film stars Kate Nash as Jo, Toby Sebastian, Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Owain Arthur, Maria Conchita Alonso, Jordan Stephens, Maya Savin Miller, Jenny Rainsford, and Freddie Fox.

Into the Dark: Good Boy is a Blumhouse horror comedy directed by Tyler MacIntyre, starring Judy Greer. The ninth episode of the horror anthology series – Into the Dark.
A “terrifying” satire on Hulu about a not so adorable pooch.
Premise
Maggie is at a crux. She is fired from the job, undergoes hormone treatment to have her eggs extracted and frozen, is on the dating scene in search of Mr. Perfect, and while she awaits all the grand events in her life to happen, she recurs to mindfulness and to adopting a sweet emotional support pooch. The canine will not be as wonderful as she had expected, as she soon will realize. It will act out, channeling any anxiety she feels, and he will do so in horrifying ways.

Walter Hill has had a long and fruitful career, directing some of everyone’s favorite films. He recently put out his western, Dead for a Dollar (read our review) and made the press rounds (check out our interview here) leading to a revaluation of his work somewhat. His filmography encompasses a lot of classics and many genres as a writer and as a director. His work as a producer covers even more ground. Here we will take a look at his directorial work which started in 1975 with Hard Times, and is still going today, The man has had one good career with rare few lesser films. To select which films to put on this list, the weaker ones were crossed out, and then we just had to go with our favorites as they are all parts of the best of what’s out there for film fans.

With the new Predator movie Prey being released through the Hulu streaming service earlier this month, a lot of people have been talking about the Predator franchise and revisiting the early movies. In the new episode of The Arrow in the Head Show, hosts John “The Arrow” Fallon and Lance Vlcek are getting in on the Predator action as well, looking back at the 1990 film Predator 2 (watch it Here). To find out what they had to say about Predator 2, check out the video embedded above!
Directed by Stephen Hopkins from a screenplay written by Jim Thomas and John Thomas, Predator 2 has the following synopsis:
Los Angeles is enduring a heat wave and a crime wave, so the pressure on police officer Michael Harrigan to solve a strange string of murders is mounting. Harrigan thinks the culprit can be found among the warring gangs and drug cartels, but...

With Prey a runaway hit on Disney’s Hulu streaming service, people are quick to call it the greatest Predator sequel ever. But wait just a second folks – has everyone forgotten about 1990’s Predator 2 starring Danny Glover? Easily the least seen movie in the Predator franchise, this guns-blazing sequel married the urban action genre to the sci-fi/horror vibe of the first movie, and the result is a kick-ass movie that too few action fans have seen. It didn’t set the box office on fire, but it’s at least as good as Prey and should be celebrated as a truly great Predator movie. We’ll tell you why in this episode of The Best Movie You Never Saw!
For one thing – the movie has a kick-ass hero. Danny Glover’s Mike Harrigan is more of an everyman than Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Dutch. Not the hulking military man,...

Three mayhem-filled mission classics – High Crime, Kill Them All And Come Back Alone, and Extreme Prejudice are being released on DVD and Blu-ray on 6 June, on the new Cult Classics label from Studiocanal, with beautiful restorations of beloved genre films, packed with extras. HBO Max is reviving another classic series for its latest reboot project. "The Brothers Garcia," the hit Latinx sitcom that aired on Nickelodeon in the early 2000s, is being reimagined as a new series called "The Garcias."
The reboot aims to bolster US Latinx representation to create a "sense of normalcy" and dismantle stereotypes. "The Brothers Garcia" was considered groundbreaking for being the first English-language sitcom to have an all-Latinx cast and creative team. This time, 81 percent of the cast of "The Garcias" is Latinx, while the other 19 percent are Asian and Pacific Islander Americans (Apia).
"The Brothers Garcia" ran for four seasons from 2000 to 2004. Some of the original members of the Garcia family will reunite in the forthcoming reboot. The series, which has been ten years in the making, will make its way to HBO Max on April 14. Jeff Valdez - who co-created...

Exclusive: Paramount Pictures is making a deal with Edgar Wright to develop to direct a new adaptation of The Running Man, the futuristic novel by Stephen King that the author first published under the pseudonym Richard Bachman. This won’t be a remake of the 1987 film that starred Arnold Schwarzenegger; the Baby Driver writer/director will co-write the story with Michael Bacall, and they will be much more faithful to King’s bestselling novel. Bacall will write the script.
Simon Kinberg and Audrey Chon will produce through his Genre Films banner, alongside Nira Park from Wright’s Complete Fiction banner. Kinberg brought the idea to Emma Watts, based on their long relationship, and then Kinberg courted Wright. While the filmmaker is very selective, the prospect of a new The Running Man is one that has intrigued him; to the point that when asked if he could remake any film, he would choose that one.

It was 30 years ago that TriStar Pictures released Total Recall, a sci-fi action movie directed by Paul Verhoeven and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Ronny Cox, Sharon Stone, Michael Ironside, and Rachel Ticotin. Based loosely on a story by Philip K. Dick called “We Can Remember It For You Wholesale,” the movie starred Schwarzenegger as Douglas Quaid, a construction worker in the year 2084 who begins having strange dreams about a mysterious woman and the Earth colony that exists on Mars.
His wife Lori (Stone) dismisses the dreams, but it turns out they’re not dreams at all but memories: Quaid is actually a secret agent named Hauser who once worked for the governor of the Martian colony (Cox) but has had his memories wiped and replaced with false ones. Lori is not his wife at all, but an operative for the governor and the wife of Richter (Ironside), the governor’s ruthless fixer.

Jcvd returns this week in Peter Malota‘s Kill ‘Em All, a fiery shoot ’em up which sees the man himself return to form as a one-man killing machine caught up in the crossfire between an international criminal gang and an increasingly desperate FBI investigation. It is a ridiculously fun throwback to the Van Damme days of glory with well suited henchmen being reworked internally by the the muscles from Brussels. A wonderfully-bearded Peter Stomare and another key 80s action star Maria Conchita Alonso (who partnered The Running Man and took the alien to task in Predator 2) join in the fun. Take a look at the trailer, and you’ll know exactly what we mean…

Eighties action flick The Running Man was set in a dystopian version of the present. So what did the movie get right about 2017?
"By 2017, the world economy has collapsed. Food, natural resources and oil are in short supply. A police state, divided into paramilitary zones, rules with an iron hand. Television is controlled by the state and a sadistic game show called The Running Man has become the most popular program in history..."

In The Show, a thriller directed by Giancarlo Esposito (of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul fame), Josh Duhamel plays Adam Rogers, a reality show host who finds himself in an unusual situation.

Directed by Max Bartoli and Fabiola Lopez Batoli, "The Secret of Joy" is a $500K short project created to support the cause of pediatric cancer. Their noble endeavor inspired a great number of talented industry people to get on board as part of the production, and after lots of passionate work they are finally ready to share with audiences in hopes that it will not only raise awareness, but also tangible funds to be donated to the Kids’ Cancer Research Foundation.
Director Max Bartoli talks more in depth about this project below:
Cancer has unfortunately already touched my family too many times, and more recently two couple of friends lost their 4 y.o and 5 y.o. children to neuroblastoma a few months apart, thus motivating me to do something to raise awareness and funds to support the battle against this terrible disease. It is with this in mind that my wife and I decided to invest all our savings to produce "The Secret of Joy," a project made of a 12-minute short, a book and a song, three products which will be donated non-exclusively to the Kids’ Cancer Research Foundation (www.endkidscancer.org) and to three European hospitals as extra tools to raise the awareness over this topic and fundraise during their future campaigns.
When we talked about this project to our friends in Hollywood we received enthusiastic reactions. A 35-people-cast, led by 4 times Emmy winner Doris Roberts ("Everybody Loves Raymond," "Remington Steele," "Christmas Vacation"), Maria Conchita Alonso ("The Running Man," "Saints & Sinners," "The House of the Spirits") and Sofia Milos ("CSI Miami"), and a 65-people-crew from 3 continents led by super talented Production Designer Giles Masters ("Angels and Demons," "The Mummy," "The Da Vinci Code") accepted to bring our story to life for free.
Shot last December in Los Angeles, "The Secret of Joy" has become in 6 months the Act Of Love of over 150 entertainment professionals and several companies (Technicolor, Red, Cameras, Hammerhead Productions., Tirelli Costumes and many others) whose contribution amounted to over $450,000 (four hundred and fifty thousand dollars), all united by the desire to support a cause which involves our children, our future and still seems to have been forgotten by the media and the audience.
This to demonstrate, if it was needed, that Hollywood often gives more than what it takes. My wife and I embarked in this project hoping to bring hope and a smile into the lives of the children battling cancer and of their families. Having two of them, Casey and Chloe, on set and seeing the joy on their faces as we were filming would be already enough to repay us of our endeavors. But we want more. We want to reach out and touch many more.
That’s why from August 28th until September 3rd "The Secret of Joy" will be screened at the Laemmle 7 theater in North Hollywood and the whole Box Office will be donated to the Kids’ Cancer Research Foundation. It’ll be an important first step to achieve our goal.
We would love for it to be successful. We know we can make the difference, touching one person’s heart at the time.

Our look at underappreciated films of the 80s continues, as we head back to 1988...
Either in terms of ticket sales or critical acclaim, 1988 was dominated by the likes of Rain Man, Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Coming To America. It was the year Bruce Willis made the jump from TV to action star with Die Hard, and became a star in the process.
It was the year Leslie Nielsen made his own jump from the small to silver screen with Police Squad spin-off The Naked Gun, which sparked a hugely popular franchise of its own. Elsewhere, the eccentric Tim Burton scored one of the biggest hits of the year with Beetlejuice, the success of which would result in the birth of Batman a year later. And then there was Tom Cruise, who managed to make a drama about a student-turned-barman into a $170m hit, back when $170m was still an...

We don’t go to the cinema much, because we hate people. We also don’t go because there’s always the risk of accidentally going to see the wrong film. It's not helped by the fact that there's no way of telling until it’s too late, because there are no bloody opening credits on lots of modern films. And by the time you do realise, you’ve eaten all your popcorn and you can’t be bothered to move.
The movies on this list won’t give you that problem. These opening credits are perfect scene setters for the movies that follow, so you won’t have to worry about awkward popcorn wasting moments. It's not a top 50, rather a selection of 50 interesting credits sequences,...

Itier wants to present femininity as a virtue rather than a weakness. It doesn’t pretend to be a feminist film that vilifies men, but rather one that empowers both women and men to join forces and learn from their differences and their common goals. As Evolutionary Biologist Elisabeth Sahtouris mentions “Any woman who knows how to run a household knows how to run a world”...

The Lords of Salem received a limited theatrical release at the end of April, but we know that many horror fans didn’t have a chance to catch it before the movie left theaters. We now have word that Anchor Bay will be giving The Lords of Salem a Blu-ray and DVD release in September.
According to Blu-ray.com, the movie will be available on September 3rd. Special features haven’t been revealed at this time, but we’re hoping for an unrated cut of the movie and director commentary. This is an early release announcement, so we should have cover art and a list of bonus features next month.

I’m a huge fan of martial arts flicks, be they traditional wuxia titles or modern Mma-inspired b-movies, my DVD shelves are pretty much weighed down by fight flick after fight flick. Despite the lack of shelf space that is currently upon me, the chance to check out and add a new kick-ass film to my collection can never be passed up. So when I spotted Submission on the shelves of my local Asda I knew I had to have it. It also didn’t hurt that the film is littered with a cast of familiar names and faces, including Ernie Reyes Jr., who starred in a couple of my childhood favourites: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3 and Surf Ninjas.
