Having starred in only his first Western films in the last few years with “The Old Way” and “Butcher’s Crossing,” Nicolas Cage is doubling down on the genre, having teamed up with Heather Graham (“The Hangover”) and Stephen Dorff (“True Detective”) for “The Gunslingers.”
Costas Mandylor (“Saw”), Scarlet Stallone (“Tulsa King”), Tzi Ma (“The Farewell”), and Randall Batinkoff (“Dead Man’s Hand”) also star in the film, which is being launched in Cannes with Brilliant Pictures handling international sales. Grindstone has U.S. rights to the film.

1992's "School Ties" didn't do very well at the box office, but it managed to launch the careers of a whole bunch of major Hollywood stars, including Brendan Fraser, Chris O'Donnell, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Anthony Rapp, and more. I'll never forget watching TV after school one day in the late afternoon and catching "School Ties" on cable, shocked that I had never heard of this movie before. Not only is it a heartbreaking and potent film about anti-Semitism that's unfortunately still all-too-relevant, but it's also a who's-who of then-unknowns who went on to become major players.
In a 2017 retrospective for Entertainment Weekly, the cast and crew of "School Ties" looked back on how the movie came to be and how it impacted many of the actors' careers. Producer Stanley Jaffe had the idea for the film and had a hand in casting the class of unknowns, making him at...

As far as what happened to Randall Batinkoff, that’s easy. He’s still acting and still doing what he’s been doing for quite some time. While his career has been easy to take notice of for a long time, it’s never been quite as outstanding as many others, either by design or by dint of acting alongside other actors that went on to become huge names in the business. If there’s any animosity or regret for not following that same path however it hasn’t materialized in a public way since Randall is still doing what he feels passionate about and is

We’ve got a trailer here for a new film Inside Game, which tells the untold true story of the 2007 NBA betting scandal. Apparently, this is a film "that the NBA doesn't want you to see." The whole scam involved an NBA referee and a bookie, who worked together to rig games for big money.
The movie stars Scott Wolf, Eric Mabius, Will Sasso, Lindsey Morgan, Berto Colon, Reggie Lee, and Michael O'Keefe. Here’s the synopsis:
Mabius plays Donaghy, who teamed with childhood buddies Tommy Martino (Wolf) and bookie Baba Battista (Sasso) in hatching a scheme to make millions by betting on NBA games Donaghy refereed. The FBI eventually foiled the plot, and all were convicted. Donaghy, a veteran ref, pleaded guilty in 2018 to two federal charges and was sentenced to 15 months in prison.

Two executive producers, whose credits include the 2018 Sundance hit “The Tale,” are facing federal fraud and money laundering charges for allegedly running a scheme to bilk millions from investors who thought they were backing independent film projects. According to their indictment, the men instead used the money to spend lavishly on themselves: luxury cars, private air travel, real estate, and more.
Jason Van Eman, who heads the Oklahoma-based WeatherVane Prods., and producer Ben McConley allegedly teamed with a former Miami-based Wells Fargo Bank employee, Benjamin Rafael, who helped pull off the scam.
According to the indictment, McConley and Van Eman lured potential investors with the promise of “matching” their investments dollar for dollar, which they claimed to use to secure a loan to pay for the film’s production. The victim would transfer money to accounts controlled by the men, which they would use for their own purposes. Rafael would...

Lee plays Thomas Choi, the new Head Deputy District Attorney in the downtown courthouse and Dda Mark Callan’s (Bethel) new boss. Choi’s a company man who believes in pushing the crap through the system as promptly as possible in order to prioritize major crimes. It feels like there’s a massive trade or free agent signing every day in the NBA, but back in 2007, the biggest story in the sport was the NBA betting scandal, which is documented in a new film called “Inside Game.”
“Inside Game” is about the story of Tim Donaghy, a former NBA referee who gambled on professional basketball games that he officiated on, leveraging his relationship with coaches, players and front offices and feeding coded tips to friends and bookies as part of a money-making scheme, only to eventually attract the attention of the FBI and NBA commissioner David Stern in the scandal.
The film is set in Philadelphia and follows Donaghy and Tommy Martino, two childhood friends who work with bookie Baba Battista in their attempt to make millions before they’re eventually brought down on federal charges within the world of organized crime.

Scott Wolf (“Party of Five”) and Randall Batinkoff (“Kick-Ass”) sat down with TheWrap to talk about their new film “37: A Final Promise,” on the latest episode of “Drinking with the Stars.” The film, written and directed by Batinkoff, is about rocker Adam Webb (Batinkoff), who plans to commit suicide when he turns 37, but has a change of heart when he meets Jemma (Scottie Thompson) and falls in love. While promoting their upcoming film “37: A Final Promise,” actors Scott Wolf and Randall Batinkoff got nostalgic on the latest episode of TheWrap‘s “Drinking with the Stars.” “Dish some dirt of Brendan Fraser,” Wolf joked to Batinkoff, referring to their 1992 film “School Ties.” Also read: ‘Kick-Ass’ Star Directs ‘Battlestar Galactica,’ ‘Party of Five’ Favorites in Suicidal Rocker Biopic (Exclusive Video) But Batinkoff had nothing but good things to say about his co-star, saying, “He's a good guy. My buddy Phil Nugent, who writes for the Onion's A.V. Chicago – Local writer/director Nicholas Smith, who set and shot his lauded indie horror flick “Munger Road” in St. Charles, Illinois, has some undeniable talent. I think his debut gets a little lost in the final act but there is a lot to like about this little movie for even those with no connection to its Chicago roots. You’re going to be deluged with options this Halloween season for your horror-loving time. Take a trip to “Munger Road.”

“Munger Road” has a little bit of everything. The great Dann Gire is quoted on the back of the case comparing the film to “Blair Witch Project,” “Halloween” and “Psycho” and Smith compares it to “Jaws” in one of the mini-featurettes included on the DVD. A film with such varied influences often falls victim to cluttered ideas and a lack of tonal consistency. And so it’s remarkable how deftly...

Munger Road Written and Directed by: Nicholas Smith Starring: Bruce Davison, Randall Batinkoff and Trevor Morgan When I see the words “based on true events” my interest is immediately piqued. Deep down, I know that term is used very, very loosely, but for some reason it amps up the fear factor on almost any horror film I watch. I can be watching the most mundane, run of the mill movie, but if it is preceded by that tantalizing phrase, my skin crawls just a little more than usual. Munger Road (recently released on DVD and VOD) benefits from this phenomenon. It’s a fairly innocuous genre film that seems spookier than it should because of the urban legend behind it. People around the Chicago area are familiar with the tale. As legend has it, Munger Road (located in Elgin, 35 miles Nw of Chicago) has a stretch of road featuring some railroad tracks,...

Director/writer: Nicholas Smith. Cast: Bruce Davison, Randall Batinkoff, Trevor Morgan, Brooke Peoples, Hallock Beals, Lauren Storm and Art Fox. Munger Road is an indie production from first time director Nicholas Smith. The film follows four college students as they try to frighten themselves on or near Halloween. Much of the film takes place during nighttime and the film is effective in creating suspense. Munger Road is also an homage to John Carpenter's Halloween for a variety of reasons. The Halloween settings, escaped killer and a character of authority acting as both a narrator and an investigator make this film almost a direct homage to this earlier horror classic. The film's story begins with four college students: Corey (Trevor Morgan), Joe (Brooke Peoples), Scott (Hallock Beals) and Rachael (Lauren Storm). They are heading out on a double date to a local set of train tracks. It was here that a tragedy occurred.

If the thought of spooky ghost kids laying their spectral hands upon your car while it's settled over train tracks spooks you, believe me when I tell you that you're not alone. Munger Road is one of Illinois' most haunted places, and a new featurette has hit online to give you a look at the movie based upon the legend.
Coming to theatres on September 30th is Nicholas Smith's Munger Road starring Bruce Davison, Randall Batinkoff, Trevor Morgan, Brooke Peoples, Hallock Beals and Lauren Storm.
Details are scant at the moment, but we do know that the film centers on two small-town cops who begin a search for four teens who go missing the night before the town's annual Scarecrow Festival.
A popular Munger Road tale says at one time a school bus filled with children stalled on the train tracks was hit by a train, which killed everyone inside.

Everyone starts somewhere, right?
While she may now be best known as having the title of Oscar Award Winner tossed before her name at every turn, actress Melissa Leo truly got her start thanks to the same man who gave starts to the careers of people like Francis Ford Coppola and Jonathan Demme. That’s right, Melissa Leo is an alum of the filmmaking school of the iconic Roger Corman.
Shout! Factory, in their continuing run of Corman-related releases, have given the world a brand new DVD release of Leo’s vehicle, the oddly intriguing, if not intensely flawed, Streetwalkin’. The 1985 feature, from director Joan Freeman, marks one of Leo’s first true-blue feature film projects, and while the film as a whole is deeply problematic, it’s also quite interesting.

Years before actress Melissa Leo (HBO’s Treme) picked up an Academy Award for her performance in The Fighter, she starred in the 1985 cult drama-thriller Streetwalkin’, which Shout! Factory will release on DVD on Aug. 2. The film will be priced at $14.93.

ABC is quite generous in sharing the first look at the next episode of its TV series "Castle". The network gives away 11-minute footage of the "Nikki Heat" episode via Hulu. It kicks off with Castle complaining about how his character, Nikki Heat, is portrayed in a movie. He slams the actress and the scriptwriter for not doing good-enough jobs.
Later, he goes to a crime scene to investigate a woman murder with Beckett, Ryan and Esposito. They are joined by a surprise guest Natalie Rhodes, the actress who plays Heat in the movie adaptation. She is doing a "character research" to help transform herself into the spitting image of Beckett.
Laura Prepon ("October Road" "That '70s Show") is tapped to play Rhodes. The other additional cast are Thomas Calabro, Stephen Macht, Melody Thomas Scott, Randall Batinkoff. "Nikki Heat" will air on January 3, 2011.

Richard Linklater often gets a lot of credit for launching the careers of many of the actors and actresses in his seminal, coming-of-age high school film, Dazed and Confused. But the reality is, Richard Linklater didn't launch some of those careers. Dick Wolf did. Yes: The guy behind "Law & Order" and all of their spin-offs. Wolf wrote a not-so-seminal high-school coming of age film that came out the year before Dazed and Confused. It was called School Ties, a movie that launched as many or more careers as Dazed and Confused.
Linklater is often cited as having created the successor to the Brat Pack, but did he really? And which movie had the superior cast? Which movie fared better with audiences? And finally, which movie has had the biggest legacy?
Let's consider the facts:
Round 1
Dazed and Confused launched the career of Jason London. What's he doing now? Crap, that's what.

Huh. And here I thought there was an official unofficial moratorium are packing nonlunch things in pseudo retro lunch boxes if they didn’t actually have some sort of nostalgic value for the cohort of today’s consumers who once carried their bologna sandwiches to school in the 1960s and 70s in tin containers emblazoned with cartoon characters. I guess here’s why this lunch box contains the 2004 direct-to-dvd horror flick Blue Demon: because it stars those Xer icons Dedee Pfeiffer and Randall Batinkoff in their classic roles as Drs. Nathan and Marla Collins: shark experts working on a top-secret government project: to protect our shorelines by creating controlled shark patrols. When their project is sabotaged, the mutant great white sharks are released into American waterways. Out among the general population the smartest of the sharks, Red Dog, carries a neutron bomb on a mission to blow up the Golden Gate Bridge.

Addiction and amour fou are one and the same in "Broken", in which Heather Graham and Jeremy Sisto play the symbolically named Hope and Will. Much of what unfolds in the L.A.-set drama feels symbolic or overly pointed -- an approach only partly explained by the story's final revelation. Good performances and an intriguingly noirish edge-of-town sensibility go only so far to compensate for an abundance of on-the-nose dialogue in the film, which took its world-premiere bow Saturday at AFI Fest.
The third feature by director Alan White ("Risk", "Erskineville Kings") unfolds mainly over one night in the Blue Star, a 24-hour diner on the outskirts of downtown where wannabe singer-songwriter Hope waits tables. At the same time, her dissolute, unhinged ex, Will, makes his way back to Los Angeles from Las Vegas on a crime-fueled trip that promises to end in disaster. As a "Nighthawks"-style rogue's gallery of patrons fill the booths, offering Hope advice or painful reminders of her own sense of failure, she recalls the ill-fated trajectory of her romance with Will. From a mildly creepy Malibu pickup, they quickly progressed to a shared devotion to heroin -- to the point of gruesome debasement for Hope.
That Will has no vocation other than shooting up makes Hope's involvement with him maddening, but Sisto imbues him with a believably needy, manipulative intensity. And as someone easily led off course from her ambitions, Graham brings a different kind of neediness, unfocused, dazzled and blank.
White also draws some good work from the supporting ensemble of customers, among them two lonely guys waiting to score coke (Jake Busey and Joe Hursley) and a scruffy wacko-as-seer (Tess Harper). Linda Hamilton has a cynical world-weariness as an escort-service entrepreneur, but Hope is more open to offers from a sleazy film producer (Randall Batinkoff) and an Ecstasy-tripping club girl (Jessica Stroup).
Each interaction is believable to a point, but the customers' spiels feel too authorial. Drew Pillsbury's script opts for flavorless dialogue rather than pushing for genre sizzle or deeper into the night-shift fever dream that DP Neil Shapiro effectively evokes. Tracks by Brian Jonestown Massacre fit the mood but should have been used more judiciously.
