- Italian romantic matinée idol, on stage from 1907 and in films from 1914. Had a one-year sojourn in Hollywood with United Artists (1926-27). Subsequently in New York, appearing on stage with Basil Rathbone in "The Command to Love". Returned to Hollywood in the 1930's, but was imprisoned in December 1941 for anti-American activities (repatriated May 1942). Post-war, seen in character roles, notably in big budget American, English and European productions..
