Intro: There’s one line that will forever go down in movie history as one of the most iconic moments of dialogue ever, and it was almost never to be. While filming the 1984 sci-fi / action / horror classic The Terminator, director James Cameron had initially written the line for Arnold Schwarzenegger as “I’ll come back”. However, as seen in the recent Netflix documentary series on the Austrian Oak, Arnie and Cameron had a heated clash over the line. Schwarzenegger hadn’t said the line correctly so Cameron suggested he just say the now iconic “I’ll be back” instead, leading Arnie to questioning the director’s writing, and getting a suitably pissed-off response in return.
This is just one example of how The Terminator not only became one of the most beloved movie franchises in Hollywood history, well, it is if you stop at part two that is, but that’s a story for later.

Zoe Saldana is whispering.
The 38-year-old actor is on the phone from her home in L.A. where her two-year-old twin sons, Bowie and Cy, as well as new addition to the family, baby boy Zen, are asleep in the next room.
“My schedule is just so unpredictable,” she says quietly, “like taking the twins to school, being home for the baby and just finding time to eat. It’s kinda crazy, but it’s a beautiful crazy.”
While raising her three kids with Italian husband Marco Perego, Saldana has, without much fanfare, done something quite remarkable. She currently plays three smart, tough and heroic women in three blockbuster franchises. That’s...

Shia Labeouf once wore a paper bag over his head to announce "I am not famous anymore," but he's still famous enough that strangers are willing to punch other strangers on the streets of New York simply for resembling him. That's when you know you are actually quite infamous.
A NYPD spokesperson confirmed to People that Mario Licato, 26, now has a black eye after being punched by a man in his 20s while walking down the subway stairs at the corner of Essex and Delancey. According to the NYPD rep, the punching man stated, "This is because you look like Shia Labeouf."
So he never thought the guy was Shia Labeouf, he just apparently hates the "Transformers" actor so much that he's now on a hunt through the streets, punching anyone who even comes close. It's like the Terminator taking out any and all Sarah Connors. Casualties are inevitable.

For those with child safety concerns, The Broken Bough doesn’t result in a baby free-fall in this week’s Defiance...
This review contains spoilers.
3.3 The Broken Bough
After the recent incident-packed couple of episodes, I was expecting things to progress at pace in The Broken Bough. But, and this is being somewhat kind, this was a mess of a story that didn’t really take us anywhere original.
It starts after some teasing by Nolan of Irisa about her comic persona, with the return of the Tarrs to Defiance. Given that Datak’s injuries seem largely superficial, I was rather disappointed that nobody questioned their arrival, and the subsequent destruction of the weapons stockpile, given their respective track record.
Armed with the limited information that Datak provides about their adversary, he wanders off into the snow with Irisa where they bump into Pila and the baby. I had numerous...

As James Cameron describes Genisys as the real third Terminator film, we wonder whether the Terminator 3 has been judged too harshly...
This summer’s Terminator Genisys has received what might be considered its first and most important stamp of approval - from James Cameron. In a promo clip for the sci-fi action sequel, directed by Thor 2 and Game Of Thrones’ Alan Taylor, Cameron said he felt that the franchise has been “reinvigorated” by Genisys.
Cameron then went so far as to say that, “In my mind, I think of [Genisys] as the third film.”
That’s praise indeed from a filmmaker who’s rarely diplomatic when expressing his opinion. Twelve years ago, the BBC asked Cameron what he thought of Alien 3 - David Fincher’s sequel which, of course, followed on directly from Cameron’s 1986 classic, Aliens. “Hated it,” Cameron said. “Simple as that. I hated what they did. I...

The new "Terminator" movie, called "Terminator: Genesis," will begin shooting in April. We know that Sarah Connor, John Connor and Kyle Reese will return, but now, we may also have an idea of what the story will be about. The details come from Moviehole, which claims the beginning will be similar to the original film. "The 'Terminator' from the future will arrive on earth, attack some punks and then slaughter his way through a bunch of Sarah Connors until he finds the correct target. And, of course, Kyle Reese volunteers to go back to 1984 and save Sarah." Then events then switch to the events from the sequel. "The scene where the T-1000 (played by Robert Patrick in 'Terminator 2: Judgement Day'), posing as a cop, visiting John Connor's home where he meets . and consequently kills . foster parents Todd and Janelle, is in there. As are several other key moments." The...

Some possible story details have leaked from the upcoming Terminator: Genesis movie currently in development at Paramount Pictures. The movie is being directed by Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World), and it stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor, Jason Clarke as John Connor, and Jai Courtney as Kyle Reese. The information that has come to light is from Movie Hole, who says it comes from a very reputable source that they believe is "one-hundred percent on-the-money."
So, if you don't want anything spoiled for you I suggest you don't read ahead. I do have to say though, this sounds like a really cool concept that almost plays out like Back to the Future Part 2 and J.J. Abrams' Star Trek. The movie is described as a fresh reboot of the series, and now let's get into the meat of it...

All hail and bow down to Daenerys Targaryen. While Brie Larson and "Wolf Of Wall Street" sexpot Margot Robbie were among the actresses vying for the coveted role of Sarah Connors in the new "Terminator" reboot, "Terminator: Genesis," it is "Game Of Thrones" star Emilia Clarke who has officially anded the gig. To be directed by Alan Taylor (not so coincidentally a "Game Of Thrones" helmer and the filmmaker behind "Thor: The Dark World"), "Terminator: Genesis" is quickly taking shape and that's a given considering its July 1st, 2015 release date (right around the corner in tentpole years). "Zero Dark Thirty" star, Jason Clarke (no relation), up for a lot of roles these days, is still in negotiations to play her son John Connor in a storyline which evidently involves a trip into the future (makes sense, given the difference between Emilia and Jason's age). There's been two Sarah Connors over the years,...

Finally, The Following starts asking the same questions that we've all been yelling at the screen for weeks, starting with, "How did Joe Carroll escape in a helicopter in broad daylight?" Pretty soon they'll have characters on screen asking things like, "How many people live in Richmond, anyway?" and "How many dimes can I fit into Kevin Bacon's adorable frown lines?" and "Who writes this stuff?"
At a videoconference debrief with The Washington Brass, Debra "The Brass Cupcake" Parker (Annie Parisse) reports that they have thus far uncovered 47 false identities for Joe's prison visitors. In other words, it is officially easier to get into a maximum security prison to visit a notorious serial killer than it is to get a library card. (You don't have to bring a utility bill with you to the prison!)

Greater Manchester Film Festival
Not to be confused with the larger Manchester International Film Festival, this is the first small step in what hopes to become "the UK's premier independent film festival". There's some way to go on that, but there's still some enticing new and upcoming stuff here, like a taster of next year's Stone Roses-centric road comedy Spike Island. There are previews of new indies Girl Shaped Love Drug (a Manchester love story) and Day Of The Flowers (Eva Birthistle and dancer Carlos Acosta hit it off in Cuba). Plus film-makers present recent hits, such as Eran Creevy with last year's Shifty.
Odeon Printworks, Fri to 7 Oct
The Big Screen, London & Bristol

Director Steven Soderbergh turns his hand to the action genre with Haywire. How do he and Mma star turned actress Gina Carano fare? Here’s Duncan’s review…
January seems to be an increasingly reliable time of year to find a great, if perhaps trashy, genre movie, so it was with great enthusiasm that I snatched up the chance to go to a screening of Haywire.
After all, despite the unknown quality of its former Mma fighter turned actress, Gina Carano, Haywire looked like a straight to video action gem, only with an elite cast and the artistic eye of director Steven Soderbergh. All of which I assumed would make for a near perfect action flick. This, however, is not the case.
I can’t stress enough that Haywire isn’t an action movie. Sure, the lead actress, the trailers and even some early reviews would have you believe that fact,...

#5: Lisbeth Salander, Millenium
If you had, like me, the luck to see the 6-episode miniseries (not the films), you'll see that she doesn't back down, can uses any weapon near her and even knows how to deal with a psychopath who suffers of congenital insensitivity to pain.
#4: Shu-Lien, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
An independent woman who knows how to deal with men. Nonetheless, she also knows which man is worthy of her love. That's why she's such a sympathetic character.
#3: Cameron Phillips, Terminator: The Sarah Connors Chronicles
If you're looking for trouble, stay away from her!
#2: The Bride, Kill Bill
Even if I had an army at my disposal, I wouldn't even mess with her. When she seeks vengeance, the result is not going to be pretty!

Skynet is now officially self-aware! If you are a fan of James Cameron’s original Terminator movie. The film claims that April 19, 2011 is the day that a vast network of computers, known as Skynet, became self-aware. If you believe that to be true, the computers will soon take over the planet, and will eventually wipe out humanity! Sarah Connors' all over the world had better be on the lookout for Arnold Schwarzenegger knocking at their door.
It's fitting that just last week news hit that another Terminator film was in the works and that Justin Lin (Fast Five) was going to direct. Lin confirmed that he’s talked to Arnold about reprising his iconic role. With Arnie getting up in age there has been concerns of his ability not to mention his interest. That means that Lin would have to find someone else. The director vaguely hinted to Moviehole...

There is a common and incorrect perception held by the general public that video games cannot tell great stories. Jaw-dropping visuals, yes, and lots of action, sure. But a story that takes the player deeper into the world? Many people that don't play video games think that these stories can't reach great heights because they're too focused on the visuals or the action. In response I point to Silent Hill 2, Deux Ex, I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream, the Ultima series, the Infocom word games from the early days of computer gaming, and I say to those doubters that they are wrong. There are games that push the art form to a truly interactive, creative level.
Unfortunately Sucker Punch is a movie that is like the worst of video games. This movie plays out like a button-masher devoid of depth past its surface level. To advance in these...

Angelina Jolie is one of modern cinema’s best actors to portray a strong, fierce female character on the big screen, which is why she’s appearing as the dangerously fierce super spy in Salt, a new action-packed film opening this Friday. Keeping with that theme, this week’s Top Ten Tuesday is devotes to strong female characters as we give you our list of the ten best Fierce Females in Film!
10. Maggie (Adrienne Barbeau) in Escape From New York
While Maggie may not have had a huge role in John Carpenter’s Escape From New York, it was an integral role. Adrienne barbeau exemplifies the strong female character common in Carpenter’s films, playing the part with a combination of fierceness and feminimity, without cheaping the role. Maggie has to be tough, being Snake’s girlfriend, but she’s also smart. While Escape From New York was Snake’s film,...

It's been a wild couple weeks for the Terminator franchise. A week ago, hedge fund Pacificor purchased the rights to the Terminator franchise through an auction, clearly finding the franchise worthy of further sequels. Days later, The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgement Day co-writer William Wisher complied with ideas for two more sequels.
According to Deadline Hollywood, Wisher has written a 24-page treatment for a fifth and sixth Terminator, which would include elements of Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines and Terminator Salvation, while concentrating on characters Kyle Reece and Sarah Connors, (played by Michael Biehn and Linda Hamilton in the original) in a post-apocalyptic battleground in a story that would involve time travel. The sixth movie would include an appearance by Arnold Schwarzenegger in a role with a surprising twist, and both sequels would include new villains such as "night crawlers" which jump out of the dirt to attack...

Every week Apple offer a film for rental at a discounted price of 99p on iTunes. For several weeks, the selections were pretty poor. Then last week saw a quality jump, with Matthew Vaughn’s Layer Cake.
Would this week continue the improvement? The answer would be a resounding yes, as to coincide with the DVD release of Terminator: Salvation, we’ve been treated to James Cameron’s 1984 classic, the original The Terminator.
In the future, a post-apocalyptic war rages on, as small pockets of human resistance fighter struggle for survival. The predators intent on their destruction are man’s own creation, machines. Robotic soldiers pursue what remains of our race, the genocide of an entire species almost complete. One man (Arnold Schwarzenneger) is sent back, through time, to before the civil war began. He begins tracking down all the Sarah Connors in the phonebook eliminating them one by one.

There are many theories, ideas or should I say 'schools of thought' on how the world would end. At the height of the Cold War, nuclear annihilation ranks at the very top. While others argue it will not be man who will destroy the world (directly) but - an epidemic of global proportions (most probably from a potent strain of virus - think: I am Legend) or severe climactic change (another ice age perhaps? That would be Day After Tommorow right?) or mechanical uprising (The Terminator, anyone?) or even attack from the outside - conquering aliens (Mars Attacks!) or perhaps an asteroid. And let's not forget zombies!
