Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster tournament is back. While studios during Covid wildly embraced the theatrical day-and-date model when cinemas were closed, they soon realized there’s nothing more profitable than a theatrical release and the downstreams that come with it. If anything, theatrical is the advertisement for a movie’s longevity in subsequent home entertainment windows. Entering the conversation in 2023 were the streamers, such as Apple, who have also realized the necessity of theatrical to eventize their movies. The financial data pulled together here for Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster Tournament is culled by seasoned and trusted sources.

Plot: Cinderella is pushed too far by her evil stepsisters and stepmother, which causes her to switch out her glass shoes and use the assistance of her Fairy Godmother to seek bloody vengeance.
Review: Everyone knows what they’re in for when it comes to these movies at this point, right? I don’t need to lay out the schpeal about public domain horror? Good, because it seems as though these films are here to stay. And in instances like this, I kind of get it. A twisted take on a tale that’s been told a thousand times? We saw Seth Grahame-Smith do something similar with his Pride, Prejudice and Zombies and even Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter. So it’s not like this is a brand-new concept. The real question remains: how well does this film do with transforming the Cinderella story into one of horror?

James Gunn has been busy directing the first chapter of the new Dcu i.e. Superman (formerly Superman: Legacy). He is also simultaneously directing some episodes of Peacemaker season 2 and is handling all the grunt work that comes with being the co-chief of the new DC Studios.
It seems like part of the grunt work includes answering for the past projects of the Dcu (then the Dceu). The filmmaker was recently asked by a fan about the Green Lantern TV show for HBO Max that was in development starring American Horror Story’s Finn Wittrock. Gunn reportedly clarified the status of the project, which was announced back in 2021.
Actor Finn Wittrock Was Supposed to Headline A Green Lantern Series A still from Green Lantern: Emerald Knights
The Dceu has announced many projects in the past including films and TV shows that eventually never saw the light of day.

Now You See Me 3 will be released by Lionsgate.

The duo have closed deals to join Barbie actress Ariana Greenblatt in Now You See Me 3, Lionsgate’s latest installment of its heist-with-magicians thrillers.
The trio are the newcomers to the caper, with original cast members Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher, Dave Franco and Morgan Freeman expected to reprise their roles as thieving illusionists.

Ruben Fleischer will be sitting in the director’s chair when cameras roll. Eric Warren Singer, Seth Grahame-Smith and Mike Lesslie wrote the script while Bobby Cohen and Alex Kurtzman produce.

Ariana Greenblatt, who appeared opposite Margot Robbie in last year’s Barbie, will be pulling a rabbit out of her hat.
The actress is joining the ensemble cast of Now You See Me 3, Lionsgate’s long-in-the-works installment of its heist caper thrillers.
Many of the original cast — Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher and Dave Franco — are expected to return. The original movies also starred Morgan Freeman and Mark Ruffalo, although it’s not clear if those two will return.
Ruben Fleischer is directing the movie, which garnered a mention last week at Lionsgate’s presentation at CinemaCon.
Lionsgate had no comment on the casting, and it’s unclear who wrote the script. Seth Grahame-Smith, the genre scribe behind The Lego Batman Movie and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, and Eric Warren have penned drafts over the years.

Paramount is looking to get a new Star Trek film in cinemas in 2025 – but why this adventure, and where might things go? A few thoughts.
Another week, another Star Trek film announcement. So currently goes the online discourse for the seemingly endless array of Star Trek cinematic announcements we have experienced for almost ten years since the last big screen endeavour, Star Trek Beyond, in 2016.
As I in part chronicle in my book Lost Federations: The Unmade History of Star Trek, that decade has seen us face promises of movies including Chris Hemsworth returning as Captain James T Kirk’s legendary father in a time travel installment; Noah Hawley of Fargo fame penning a tale about a deadly virus (perhaps understandably shelved after a certain pandemic…); directors including Matt Shakman and Sj Clarkson coming and going; even Quentin Tarantino considering turning The Original Series gangster episode ‘A Piece of the Action’ into a movie event.

As much as we love them, the Star Trek movies have their share of mistakes. God stealing a starship, John Harrison revealing himself as Khan, McCoy shaving off his beard in The Motion Picture. But it looks like the movie franchise is about to outdo them all.
Paramount has officially added the next Star Trek movie to its 2025 release schedule. According to TrekCore, the project currently called Untitled Star Trek Origin Story will begin production this year, with Seth Grahame-Smith writing and Toby Haynes directing. The film will take place decades before the 2009 Star Trek reboot from J.J. Abrams.
And it’s a terrible idea.
First of all, there’s the question of the timeline logistics of the film. Although one would assume that the film will occur in the Kelvin Timeline, the alternate universe in which Star Trek (2009), Star Trek Into Darkness, and Star Trek Beyond take place, the...

Paramount Pictures has finally unclogged the Star Trek franchise on the big screen – and a new film is landing in 2025.
Since 2016 and the release of Star Trek Beyond, it’s little secret that Paramount Pictures has been struggling to work out what to do with big screen Trek. While the franchise is thriving on the small screen, getting a new film going has proven taxing. Infamously, Quentin Tarantino was noodling with a possible project at one point, while director Sj Clarkson was hired at one stage too, before she went on to do Madame Web instead.
There’s been uncertainty as to whether the ‘Kelvin’ crew from the last three films would be back, and there’s been uncertainty over whether it’s all going to have a day-one reboot.
Now? We have an answer. Earlier this year there was the suggestion that Paramount was looking to do a Star Trek origin film.

Captain's Log: Stardate 2024. It's been eight years since the USS Enterprise's last voyage on the big screen, with the franchise having since returned to its roots on television. During that period, the property has proliferated thanks to an influx of streaming series that's included everything from a "Next Generation" reunion to a raunchy cartoon and a wonderfully silly musical episode. But through it all, the question has lingered: when will Trekkies get to undertake another mission painted on the largest canvas available?

When a franchise has lasted for upwards of half a century and is still going strong, the decision-makers in charge will inevitably run into one pressing question above all others: Where do we go next? "Star Trek" became a beloved institution among the nerdiest of fans for a pretty good reason, largely because of its wholesale commitment to treading new ground and envisioning a new future. But with the franchise firing on all cylinders these days and no signs of slowing down anytime soon, writers have become increasingly hard-pressed to boldly go where no others have gone before ... literally speaking, that is, since recent "Star Trek" shows like "Strange New Worlds," "Lower Decks," "Discovery," "Picard," and more have filled in all sorts of gaps in the official canon.

Say his name three times. Do it. Unlike Candyman, most people would love to summon Beetlejuice. He’s the Ghost With The Most. The film Beetlejuice became an instant classic when it haunted theater screens in the spring of 1988. Burton’s visual aesthetic, along with the amazing performances by Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder, captivated audiences. The film easily grossed over $75 Million at the box office on a $15 Million budget. People loved the character, and he even got a Saturday morning cartoon spin-off that kids loved, but it’s taken thirty-five years for them to get Beetlejuice 2 off the ground!

Geoff Johns initially penned a script for a Green Lantern Corps movie in the Dceu, aiming for a release by the end of 2019. However, plans changed when it was revealed in April 2020 that Johns would produce a Green Lantern Corps series for HBO Max, indicating a shift in direction. Efforts have been made to distinguish the series from the CW’s Arrowverse, possibly to attract those uninterested in its lower-budget productions.
Scheduled for a 2021 release, Seth Grahame-Smith took over as showrunner in October 2020, with Geoff Johns’ role decreasing. The series was planned to consist of ten episodes, written by Grahame-Smith and Marc Guggenheim, and produced by Berlanti Productions. Confirmed characters included Guy Gardner, Jessica Cruz, Simon Baz, Alan Scott, Sinestro, and Kilowog.
There’s limited information about the show, but it’s confirmed to be a cosmic detective story. It will feature three well-known Green Lanterns: Hal Jordan, John Stewart,...

Michael Keaton is back as the titular Ghost with the Most in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, director Tim Burton’s long-awaited sequel to his 1988 classic Beetlejuice (watch it Here). Winona Ryder is reprising the role of Lydia Deetz. Catherine O’Hara is back as Lydia’s stepmother Delia. But now The Hollywood Reporter has been able to confirm that Jeffrey Jones, who played Lydia’s father Charles in the original movie, is not in the sequel. Few fans expected him to be, as Jones hasn’t gotten a lot of screen acting jobs since 2003, when he pled no contest to “hiring a 14-year-old boy to pose naked for photos, for which he was sentenced to five years probation and ordered to register as a sex offender.” He has been in a few movies since then, but his most substantial job was on the TV series Deadwood. He appeared on 35 episodes of that show...

The ghost with the most is back in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Here’s the first trailer for the Tim Burton-directed sequel, starring Michael Keaton.
It’s been over 30 years, but finally Michael Keaton is back where he belongs – in a pinstriped suit in the middle of a Tim Burton film. The 1988 original Beetlejuice, which also starred Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin, quickly grew into a cult favourite, full of Burton’s trademark dark humour and memorable scenes like the dinner party guests being made to dance to Harry Belafonte’s Day-O (The Banana Boat Song).
Of course, had things turned out differently, we could have had a very different sequel in the 1990s, which had the working title Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian. For a variety of reasons, that film never made it to production – we wrote about it in detail here.
The official synopsis for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, meanwhile, reads as follows:

Thirty-six years after the original, and after years of pursuing different follow-up ideas, director Tim Burton’s “Beetlejuice,” sequel, titled “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” is finally coming to theaters this year. Written by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, based on a story by Seth Grahame-Smith (Burton’s “Dark Shadows” and “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter”), not much is known about the film other than it’s a follow-up to the original, about a ghost who’s recruited to help haunt a house.

"I myself am strange and unusual," Winona Ryder's goth teen Lydia Deetz proclaims in "Beetlejuice," although she could've just as easily been talking about the movie around her. Tim Burton's supernatural comedy was lightning in a bottle when it landed in 1988, a zealously idiosyncratic (and horny!) affair and a welcome remedy to the decade's consumerist mentality. Now, 36 years later (*wipes brow*), a "Beetlejuice" sequel is finally making its way to the big screen at a time when franchises and IPs may be loosening their grip just a little on the media landscape. The question is, will "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" -- as the film is now officially titled -- be part of the problem or will it mark the start of a long, long-awaited creative renaissance for Burton the director?
If you're looking for reasons to be skeptical about "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice," one need only point to Burton's filmography since "Big Fish...

Following the release of ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ Dceu was officially concluded and Gunn’s and Safran’s Dcu officially took over as the primary cinematic universe for DC characters. Now we do know that plenty of projects are in development as a part of Chapter 1: Gods & Monsters, and one of the most notable ones is a live-action show focusing on Green Lanterns aptly titled ‘Lanterns.’
Geoff Johns originally had a script for a Green Lantern Corps film set in the Dceu, scheduled for release by the end of 2019. However, plans shifted when it was announced in April 2020 that Johns would produce a Green Lantern Corps series for HBO Max, suggesting a change in direction. Efforts have been made to distance the series from the CW’s Arrowverse, possibly to appeal to those disinterested in the Arrowverse’s lower-budget productions.

If you’ve seen the Tim Burton-directed classic Beetlejuice (watch it Here), you know that the key to summoning (or sending away) the title character is saying his name three times. So when Beetlejuice 2 finally went into production, with Burton back at the helm, thirty-five years after the release of the original film, I saw fans suggesting the title of the film should be Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Obviously the filmmakers agreed that was a clever idea, because it has been confirmed that Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is the film’s title. This is revealed in a poster that can be seen at the bottom of this article… and while Deadline is claiming the 2024 A.D. bit is part of the title as well, we’re skeptical about that one.

Thirty-six years after the release of the Tim Burton-directed classic Beetlejuice (watch it Here), we’re finally going to be seeing a sequel when Beetlejuice 2 reaches theatres on September 6th… and as we watch the new film play out on the big screen, we’re apparently not going to be seeing much CGI in it. Star Jenna Ortega told Entertainment Tonight that working on Beetlejuice 2 was “some of the most fun I’ve ever had on a set. Visually, so exciting. Everything was practical. I think we’re not using very much CGI or something like that at all. Everyone did an incredible job. I felt so lucky to be there, it was insane … I can’t wait for people to see.“
Ortega’s comments actually echo something her co-star Michael Keaton – who reprises the role of the titular character – said seven months ago, when the film was still in production.

As Star Trek fans, we may quibble about certain aspects of the franchise. We all have our opinions about the best captain or the general ethos of the show. But we can all agree on one thing: Star Trek is about boldly going where no one has gone before. It’s right there at the start of the show!
And yet, for whatever reason, Trek producers seem obsessed with going backwards, excavating the years before the adventures of Kirk and Spock on The Original Series. First we got Star Trek: Enterprise in 2001, then the J.J. Abrams reboot in 2009, then Discovery in 2017, and again with the spin-off Strange New Worlds. In fact, until Discovery jumped ahead 900 years at the end of the second season, the franchise had not moved the timeline past 2002’s Star Trek: Nemesis.

Another new Star Trek film is in development – reportedly an origin story – while Star Trek 4 is apparently still said to be alive and well.
Only yesterday we learned from Jean-Luc Picard himself that a Picard movie is apparently in the works. According to Patrick Stewart, the esteemed actor who embodies Picard, the film would be a final outing for the beloved character who has most recently appeared in a multi-season TV show that has developed his post-Next Generation story.
Given that Paramount always seems to have several Star Trek projects cooking at the same time, it’s unsurprising to hear that there’s more on the way too. It’s been announced that Andor director Toby Haynes is on board to direct and Seth Grahame-Smith has written the script for a Trek film that will act as an origin story that will expand the ‘Kelvin timeline’ universe.

A new Star Trek movie is in the works from Andor and Black Mirror director Toby Haynes.
The film was written by Seth Grahame-Smith, and will reportedly be set several decades prior to the events of the most recent Star Trek franchise starring Chris Pine.
Star Trek will mark Haynes’ feature film debut. He previously directed six of the 10 episodes in Andor’s first season, as well as two Black Mirror episodes, including the Star Trek-inspired “USS Callister.”
Speaking of the Pine-led franchise, the long-gestating fourth film is still in the works, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The move recent installment, Star Trek Beyond, was released in 2016.
All that’s in addition to the numerous Star Trek television series residing on Paramount+, including Strange New Worlds, Discovery, Lower Decks, and Picard.
