Over its six seasons, the ABC sitcom The Goldbergs has paid homage to plenty of 1980s popcorn classics with guest stars who reprise memorable Reagan era roles but this Wednesday night’s episode and its tribute to The Highlander from 1986 is next-level stuff.
Take a look at the short-but-sweet exclusive preview clip (in the video above) from this week’s The Goldbergs and you’ll get a sense of the devotional tone of the episode, which introduces The Highlander as “incredibly bad-ass” thanks to its triple threat of “sword-fighting, Queen music and Sean Connery rocking a ponytail.” As you may have guessed, The Highlander is an all-time favorite of Adam F. Goldberg, executive producer and the namesake creator of The Goldbergs, which channels his youth...

In May of 2006, I sat down with actress Jessica Chastain, then an unknown and untested 29 year-old who was on the precipice of her first big break after being tapped by Al Pacino to co-star in his stage production of Oscar Wilde's "Salome" at the Wadsworth Theater. Then as now, Chastain's fresh-faced beauty made every passerby do a double-take as we spoke. Her ambition to succeed as a performer was palpable, and paid off in 2011 with Chastain appearing in six high-profile films: "Take Shelter," "The Tree of Life," "Coriolanus," "The Debt," "Texas Killing Fields," and "The Help," for which she received a Best Supporting Actress nomination. This year, Chastain received a nod in the Best Actress category for Katherine Bigelow's "Zero Dark Thirty" and is the undisputed front-runner to take a statuette home.

Nick (George Eads) and Ray (Laurence Fishburne) searching for a Cs at the beginning, was almost indicative of Ray's search for Haskell (Bill Irwin). Who else would leave DBs in his wake. Nick comments on there being lots of manure here and Ray can smell it, can't help wondering if that was a snide remark about the B.S churned out by Haskell in this episode. No one was really on the ball, I have to say as far as Haskell was concerned. Rray nearly drives into a, "holy cow" as Nick says. Hey Nick should know all about cows from the question Gil (William Petersen) asked him: "What do cows drink?" All those seasons ago. They comes across scattered Db parts in a barn. Ray was oblivious he was stepping in manure. Nick Ids the larvae, as is his new specialty now, so they were dead up to 96+ hours ago.

Gregory Widen was just an undergraduate in the screenwriting program at UCLA when he wrote a script entitled Shadow Clan for a class assignment. He sold the script for $200,000 to producers William Panzer and Peter S. Davis, who then sent it to be re-written. Add one music video director (Russell Mulcahy), a charismatic leading man (Christopher Lambert) and an ensemble cast, and film history was made. While not a box office success on release in 1986, Highlander did well overseas, and gained a cult following on home video, eventually leading to five sequels, three spin-off television series, an animated direct-to-video movie, books, comic books, video games and a slew of quotable lines (as well as many welts, since my friends and I spent many hours with makeshift swords fighting each other). Highlander has become a cult classic in the hearts of many.

Even if you've never seen Highlander, chances are you've heard that phrase uttered countless times. It's the battle cry of the sword-wielding Immortals in the 1986 fantasy-action film, starring Christopher Lambert.
Lambert appears as Connor MacLeod, a young Scotsman in the year 1536 who one day meets his fate on the battlefield at the hands of the Kurgan (Clancy Brown), a massive Slavic warrior out to slice Connor's head from his neck. When Connor seemingly comes back to life after dying from his battle wounds, his superstitious clan banishes him, leaving him to build a new life for himself elsewhere. Five years later, a mysterious man named Ramirez (Sean Connery) seeks out Connor to become his mentor, explaining that they are of a...

There’s been talk of a Highlander reboot for several years, and now it looks like one is actually happening as Summit Entertainment has signed Justin Lin (Fast & Furious) to helm a new film in the franchise that originally starred Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery. The trades say Summit plans to expand on the original "Highlander" premise of immortals hunting each other through the ages. The new film will center on the immortal Scottish swordsman Connor MacLeod, who must confront a murderous barbarian who lusts for a fabled prize. The original 1986 film was directed by Russell Mulcahy and along with Lambert and Connery starred Clancy Brown and Roxanne Hart. It launched four sequels and three TV spin-offs. The last big screen outing for the series was 2000’s Highlander: Endgame. Neal H. Moritz, who worked with Lin on Fast & Furious, will produce. Longtime Highlander producer Peter Davis is also producing along with Moritz.

Summit Entertainment, the home that "Twilight" built, has hired "Fast & Furious'" Justin Lin to direct "Highlander" the reboot! The studio wants a franchise!
Lin's producing partner for "Fast and Furious," Neal H. Moritz, will oversee production. "Iron Man" scriptwriters Art Marcum and Matt Holloway are writing the script.
I enjoyed the original 1986 film directed by Russell Mulcahy. But it's unclear whether the original cast -- Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery, Clancy Brown, and Roxanne Hart -- will make an appearance for the reboot.

Summit Entertainment is turning up the heat on their Highlander reboot. The studio has hired Justin Lin to direct and Neal H. Moritz to produce the next installment.
Justin Lin to Direct Highlander
Summit likes the combination, as it was Lin and Moritz who delivered Universal Pictures' most successful title of the year, Fast and Furious.
Summit Entertainment doesn't have a cast in mind just yet, but they do already have Iron Man scribes Art Marcum and Matt Holloway working on the script.
The original installment was released back in 1986 and starred Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery, Clancy Brown and Roxanne Hart. The franchise got through four sequels and three TV spinoffs before eventually disappearing. Summit is hoping to take the original story, but expand on it greatly. The new film will center on the immortal Scottish swordsman Connor MacLeod, who must confront a murderous barbarian who lusts for a fabled prize.

Making the worst news of the day, Summit Entertainment has tapped Justin Lin to helm a remake of "Highlander," the instant cult favorite starring Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery, Clancy Brown and Roxanne Hart. Still, with Sony butchering the "Pink Panther" classic, it will be interesting to see how this turns out. Fans of the original will certainly be outraged at the revamp, however, let's face it, every film that followed the first was attrocious. If they move on with the project and develop into a franchise as planned, the whole deal may be well worth the remake. After all, they have on board "Iron Man" screenwriters Art Marcum. Longtime "Highlander" producer Peter Davis producing alongside veteran Neal H. Moritz who worked with Lin on the successful "Fast & Furious."...
