With “Wish,” Disney Animation celebrates its 100th anniversary by merging the 2D legacy of watercolor background paintings (dating back to “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs”) with cutting-edge CG. The result was a revitalization of the retro aesthetic in every department to better display the hand of the artist. Like a gateway drug, it has already carried over into an as-yet-unannounced feature with a very different 2D look.
The musical fantasy (directed by Chris Buck and Fawn Veerasunthorn) was the perfect storm for a convergence of the past and present, as it pays tribute to Walt’s beloved wishing star — symbolic of his ethos about the importance of hopes and dreams. Asha (Ariana DeBose), a 17-year-old very much in the mold of the modern Disney heroine, desperately wishes upon a star to save her medieval kingdom of Rosas when Sorcerer King Magnifico (Chris Pine) imprisons their wishes. Asha’s plea...

With “Wish,” Disney Animation celebrates its 100th anniversary with a film that bridges Walt’s era and the company’s modern sensibility. Directed by Chris Buck (“Frozen”) and Fawn Veerasunthorn (head of story for “Raya and the Last Dragon“), it’s an animated musical origin story about the magical wishing star with a painterly, 2D aesthetic in CG that’s every bit as impressive as “Across the Spider-Verse” in displaying the hand of the artist.
Disney Animation offered a 20-minute sneak peek at the upcoming film in mid-September at the El Capitan in Hollywood — and you can watch the latest trailer below. “Wish” is crucially about legacy and incorporating Disney’s beloved hand-drawn aesthetic with the studio’s latest digital tech. The designers and animators create a nostalgic watercolor look for the background paintings inspired by “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” “Pinocchio,” and “Sleeping Beauty.”

Just a few of the nods in Disney's Frozen to one or two other Disney projects....
Now making lots of money across the globe is Disney's latest animated movie, the excellent Frozen. The movie more than stands on its own two feet, but it also has a few ties back to the Disney legacy of old. Not least in the collection of a few Easter eggs that are contained within the film.
We understand there may be more than the ones we've cited here, but how many of these did you spot?
First up, at the coronation scene, you might spot a couple of guests from Tangled sneaking in...
See them? If not, peak towards the left of the picture, and there's Flynn and Rapunzel. As you can see in this zoomed shot, here...
Next? Can you spot a special guest in the next shot,...

Nominations for the 41st Annual Annie Awards were announced and "Frozen" and "Monsters University" led the pack with 10 nominations each. "Despicable Me 2" and "The Croods" followed closely with 9 noms each.
I am rooting for "Frozen" to win! It's a return to form to what Disney does best -- affecting fairy tale with memorable musical numbers. "Monsters University," on the other hand, was bland. The film bored me on second viewing.
Steven Spielberg will receive the Winsor McCay Award for career achievement at the awards ceremony happening on Saturday, Feb. 1, at Royce Hall on the UCLA campus. Patrick Warburton will serve as host.

To promote their new full length animated feature Frozen, Disney invited members of the press to Disney Animation Studios to check out how the film was made, and show us selected parts of the film before its November 27th release. Also, they made us this pretty cool animated video of our name!
In “Frozen,” fearless optimist Anna (voice of Kristen Bell) teams up with rugged mountain man Kristoff (voice of Jonathan Groff) and his loyal reindeer Sven in an epic journey, encountering Everest-like conditions, mystical trolls and a hilarious snowman named Olaf (voice of Josh Gad)in a race to find Anna’s sister Elsa (voice of Idina Menzel), whose icy powers have trapped the kingdom of Arendelle in eternal winter.
Our day started at the incredible Disney Animation Studios, in Burbank, Ca.
While there, we met with directors Chris Buck (Tarzan) and Jennifer Lee (co-writer Wreck-it Ralph), as well...

Death Race 2
I’m not much of a fan of films that are sequels but are actually prequels, this is one of those movies. This film is overly campy and much like the first film in the series, it’s poorly written. Not much more to say about this film other then it was complete and utter trash.
Feature Commentary: with director Roel Reine The Race Begins: The Evolution of Death Race Cheating Death: The Stunts of Death Race 2 : behind-the-scenes featurette. Fast Cars and Firearms: The Cars of Death Race 2 Deleted Scenes: Six deleted scenes Deleted Shots Montage with Director’s Introduction Bd-Live Functionality and News Ticker My Scenes Bookmarking

It should come as no surprise to anyone that Disney's latest Diamond Edition Blu-ray release of Bambi looks and sounds stellar as well as continues to push the boundaries of what is possible with the new and still-evolving multimedia format.
Disney's high definition catalog releases of their classic animated features have always been must buy releases. They seem to have never released one of their timeless features on DVD, and now Blu-ray, without ensuring the consumer is getting the best possible version of each film. With Bambi the story is no different, even though I must admit this is not a personal favorite of mine. Yet, I consider it a title that simply must be included in my collection.
Early reviews on the Internet regarding the image quality of this Blu-ray release have been spot on, some have even said it looks as if it has been freshly painted. This...
